I am making refinements to my novel -- a romantic crime thriller. It is partially set in the Philippines. I need some help with my opening. The language among the local police is harsh. I want to refine it to intersperse the dialog with Tagalog and slang. Example: A night-time surveillance team spots someone light a cigar. The dialog line is: "Some stupid ass just lit up." I assume a local cop might say something other than "stupid ass." Correct? This is the kind of help I seek.

I am studying the Filipino language because I want to continue studying the language to get fluent because its one of my mother tongues and it is important to me to speak Tagalog fluently because so I can communicate with my family especially my mom, wife and my in-laws. I'm in Texas too. My son's wife is from the Philippines and speaks English very well. I am trying to learn Tagalog so that when I go with my son and daughter in law to the Philippines I will be able to greet the family there and know how to be polite and friendly. My teacher on this site is teaching me not only the language but bits about the culture, history and even the food. It's been a lot of fun.
