Question: What are all the known ways to say the cardinal directions? Specifically the Tagalog derived directions and also just the variations of each of the four on their own, so not the directions in between.

Similar to how "Timog" has the added ka- prefix for "Katimugan" (southern/southern area.) I've heard "Kahilagan" from "Hilaga" used before. For "Silangan" the only other variant I've heard for it is of course "Silanganan" from Lupang Hinirang. What about "Kanluran"? To those who know, does it have any other variants or any of the other directions for that matter?

Just curious to know.

@borr I work through the roots

Timog to KA- timug -AN
Hilaga to KA- hilag -AN
Silangan I doubt any formal affix...KA- -AN fails for DAPAT MAGANDA/BAWAL PANGIT
Kanluran to...tapus na KAnlurAN....KAKAnlurANAN...its probably happened

now me NAKAKAnlurANAN...good tongue twister.

I think you have them all.

@borr
north - hilaga; ka-hilaga-an; (root word-hilaga=north) kahilagaan
south- timog; ka-timug-an; (root word-timog=south) katimugan
west-kanluran; ka-kanluran-an; (root word-kanlong=hide/refuge) kakanluranan
east-silangan; ka-silangan-an; (root word-silang=rise/birth) kasilanganan - No one uses this probably because it has similar sound with negative words like kasinungalingan - lie or kasalanan - sin
