Question: Syntax question:
I read the following sentence in a story: "Hindi ko siya lola." I presume that it means, "She is not my grandmother," but the word order seems strange. I would think it would be, "Hindi siya lola ko," or "Hindi lola ko siya."
Any thoughts?

@PinoyTaj, @AMBoy Thanks for your responses. "I am not his/her grandmother," doesn't seem to make sense in the context.
"I am not his/her grandmother," would mean a little boy is saying he is not an old woman's grandmother. I think I'm missing something. Any further thoughts?

I think the text is whacky, I think it's missing some angs:

Even after , feels weird.

Hindi ko siya lola. -> she is not my grandmother

Hindi siya ANG/YUNG lola ko -> She is not my grandmother

Hindi lola ko siya. -> No, she is my grandmother

To say this: . "I am not his/her grandmother,"

Hindi ako ang lola niya

Syntax correct.

"Hindi ko siya lola" is literally "she is not a grandmother(/grand aunt) of mine." but is usually meant and understood as "she is not my grandmother."

> "and she is not a grandmother(/grand aunt) of my friends'."

> "But because she is old and her hair is gray, she is a "grandma" for all the children in our street."

"Hindi siya lola ko."
Passable as an IM or chat, or informal talk. Do not speak or write this way unless you have reached advanced level Tagalog.

"Hindi lola ko siya." Ungrammatical.
