Anybody knows if there is an official tagalog language certificate to prove your proficiency?

None.

The ultimate test of proficiency is if you can converse in Tagalog with native speakers over bottles of beer and still not ran out of things to say in Tagalog.

IDK, but I find that many foreigners who learn Tagalog have a very "stiff" of Tagalog - stiffer than formal Tagalog.

@PinoyTaj Thanks. I will have a look. Maybe I could do it online in the future.

@Bituingmaykinang Ok. I need to go to my nearest bar and try to talk tagalog to the bartender. See if I can get my proficiency right. 😉

@Victor How close do you think you are to proficiency?

@Kasalukuyan
Hi.
Actually I am a beginner but it will help me a lot to set up a goal in the future such as a Tagalog test. That way I would be consistant studying regularly to reach that goal and keep me motivated.
That help me other languages.

@Victor A man with a PLAN. Gustong gusto!

Perhaps a more immediate step...what do you intend to use as your main reference for usage and grammar? Advance Salamat for any insights.

Hi.
I am using a very good book... Elementary Tagalog.
I also listen to tagalog lesson podcasts as well as some Youtube videos ( tutor from Manila is a very good one).
Ingat ka!

@Victor I have been told by my Filipino friends that my Tagalog gets better as I drink more beers lol

@jaycee879 Ha ha ha.
Drinking beers to improve tagalog. This is the best advice I got so far.
I have to try it myself but probably I will speak with a funny accent after a few beers.

I think my poor grammar is ignored when we are all having fun. I do struggle to form sentences but if answer is simple my limited vocabulary gets me by. Also most of my drinking friends speak taglish so the mixture of English helps me understand.

@jaycee879 As funny as it sounds, there is probably a lot of truth to this, it happens to me when drunk as well and I think its because I finally free to speak freely using my 1 year of pretty massive study with out worrying about every little thing (and inadvertently get it right anyway because I knew it, was just too shy).

Getting drunk is the best way to learn and practice Tagalog. Drunken state removes all inhibition. Haha
