@Niemil Thank you so very much for your help and your efforts ... the phrase is from a song by Kakai Bautista .... isang tanong, isang sagot ... I think I managed to translate the song (because this is how I try to learn Tagalog) ... it seems to me she speaks correct Tagalog ... but maybe it is necessary to have the complete context, in order to understand the phrase in question:
Ang hirap na man ng lagay ko (My situation is so difficult) Di puwedeng mauna sa iyo (I cant make it without you) Kailan ko ba maririnig (when will I hear) N'akin ang iyong pag-ibig? (...)
Maybe I did not get the last line correctly from the song ?
From a 1997 movie of the same name..,with Donna Cruz playing the role Rizelle...and singing the title song?
Isang tanong, isang sagot Wala na ngang ikot-ikot Gusto ko lang liwanagin Ako ba ay mahal mo rin? Nakita ko sa kilos mo Na may tibok rin ang puso Wala ka lang sinasabi Bitin tuloy ako Ang hirap na man ng lagay ko Di puwedeng mauna sa iyo Kailan ko ba maririnig N'akin ang iyong pag-ibibg?
Stylized lyrics? Did you ever go to the Cine...see the English sub-titles and think wow...that's not really a close translation...lean to you right seat mate...ask for meaning...surprised again...lean to your left seat mate...shocked for third time.
thanks guys ... we are getting closer to the matter ...
@Niemil .... I agree with your translation ..... ( just maririnig is future and so it should be "when will I hear" ... but otherwise I think tama lahat ...
The last line in question might be "that your love is mine" .... but I still dont understand the construct: "N'akin ang iyong pag-ibig" ... and this is what I am asking for in the first place.
... akin is the sa-case ... and ang pag-ibig is the subject ... so I still wonder what is N'akin ... Na akin ? ... or what else ? That would make it: "that your love is mine NOW" ... But shouldn't it be akin na (according to the order of enclitics ?) I am still puzzled.
Well ... maybe somebody can help me out ... otherwise I may have to forget about the whole matter ... we cant know EVERYTHING between heaven and earth, can we !
The passage. "Ang hirap na man ng lagay ko Di puwedeng mauna sa iyo Kailan ko ba maririnig N'akin ang iyong pag-ibig?"
The person is saying that he/she is having a hard time trying to read the beloved's feelings for him/her. He/she cannot tell him/her about his own feelings/intentions first. ( Maybe because they are friends and does not want to make things awkward) He/she wants to know when will he/she hear him/her say that he/ she loves him/her.
one literal translation can be:
"Ang hirap na man ng lagay ko - I am in a difficult situation here, Di puwedeng mauna sa iyo - I cannot say it first..... Kailan ko ba maririnig - when will I hear (you say) N'akin ang iyong pag-ibig?" - that you love me?
This can be just one of many possible translation as @ BoraMac hinted. =) if you are trying to translate the lyrics of the song to sing it as an English version, then this translation can more or less fit your need as it preserves the gist and emotion of the passage. "N' akin...." is a contraction of -'na sa akin ....' beacuse as it is a song... the lyrics have to fit the melody sometimes.
