Learning Pilipino Through Self Instruction - Audio Tapes/CDs/MP3s, any one?

The best books ever published for Tagalog but I can't afford $700+ for the audio component.

I came across those books while scouring the net for resources some weeks ago. Was unable to find any good reviews on them though, so I assumed they sucked. But your "best books ever" ringing endorsement is making me reconsider.

How do they compare to Tagalog Reference Grammar which I have, and the learningtagalog.com grammar book (which I don't have but am considering buying)?

They truly are I think @jkos and @akosikoneho can attest to this. They are not for casual learners at all, this is if you are SERIOUS about learning and want to put the time and effort that goes in to it. I think @jkos said once something like its that crazy deep Tagalog Reference book put in to a real training program but its really rigorous. But I really want to get a hold of these MP3's...perhaps a group buy if any one wants to split the costs?

No need to buy this, this is the same content they have on the LT site for free in the grammar section. It's good stuff but it's already on the web and easy to search and well organized, I don't see why one would need a hard copy.

Ok great. So any suggestions on where to get the ebooks? It seems that there are 4 books to get?

There are no ebooks, unless you scan them yourself and the real ones are hard to find at least as a set, you will have to go used for sure. Try amazon.com , abebooks.com.

I suppose if people were interested in going in on these MP3s that some scans could turn up, its a lot of work tho.

For some reason anything good in this language has been neglected and left to rot, no longer updated , no longer published and certainly not made in to a proper ebook. You can't even get proper copies of popular authors like Bob Ong any where. I swear it feels like foreigners care more about Tagalog than the speakers.

I just bumped into the Author John Wolff so I ordered one up....delivery later this week...I hear the first few units are strong on explanations...before it gets convoluted and sloppy. Let's see.

VisPrint (Bob Ong's publisher), I believe, is closing.

But yeah, the literary catalog for Filipino literature (in Tagalog, but ) is not really good.
