According to learningtagalog.com, pagbasa is reading, while pagbabasa is habitual reading

@ThatLucas That's what I've always thought, but then I saw this video: www.youtube.com/watc h?v=4udG-ZN17fs
She says pag+RO+OT is used for nag/mag verbs and pag+ROOT is used for um verbs.
I, however, find this very limiting because verbs aren't limited to only one affix, and it feels like their should be the distinction of habitualness/repetition.
So what's the correct answer?

I think the correct answer is that pag+root is just the act of doing an action, while pag+ro+root is just the act of doing an action repeatedly or habitually

I think it’s just the case here that a prefix can have multiple meanings...sometimes indicating “habitually” doing something, and sometimes simply a noun/gerund form of a mag- verb.
