Question: why is hindi pronounced as hinde sometimes? Thanks

Because sometimes the i is pronounced e in some words.
I know lalaki can be pronounced lalake as bakit can be pronounced baket.

In the old writing system, e/i sounds are indicated by the same marker, ᜊᜒ(be/bi). This is the same as o/u ᜊᜓ(bo/bu).
It is also the same if you just have the vowel sound, ᜀ(a) ᜁ(e/i) ᜂ(o/u)
Some words now have a preferred vowels sounds to spell or say, but it is still correct to pronounce any way and please don't make fun of people for choosing to pronounce a certain way.Some examples:
pito/pitu
lima/lema
pagkain/pagkaen

To my foreigner ear, frequent code switchers pick up a bit of the "sloppiness" of the variety in the English sounds...many truly talented blinguals...and some English sounds are bound to sneak into pronounciations.

By my experience, It can be because the speaker/ writer is not a native Tagalog speaker but of another Filipino language.
I grew up and was schooled in Metro Manila which is basically predominant Tagalog. When I was in grade school.I remember getting minus points for spelling such words as " lalaki" and "bakit" with an "e" in the end in my compositions. So I stopped asking my mom for help with my Filipino language subject.
My mom's first language is Cebuano/ Bisaya (from the Visayas) and she would spell such words with "e" at the end and so do many Bisaya people because they spell many of the Tagalog words as how they speak it...with a Bisaya accent and so sometimes, "i " is "e" and 'u" becomes "o".
