Question: I'm a beginner to the Tagalog language and I've been wondering which is correct: May baha dahil sa malakas na ulan. or May baha dahil sa malakas ng ulan.

I'm also confused with the uses of "ng" and "na". To me, both of them have the same meaning but used in certain sentences. But what I think might be wrong. Thanks in advance.

One of the functions of NG and NA is that of a ligature. This is commonly used in combining adj and noun as a phrase. When the adj ends in a vowel, add -ng ex: magandang bata = maganda ends in "a" hence -ng is added to it. When the adj ends in a consonant, add" na" between the adj and noun ex: mabait na bata = mabait end in "t" hence na is added between them. You can interchange the position of the adj and noun and the same rule applies ex. batang maganda //// batang mabait since bata ends in a vowel, - ng is added to it. That's why malakas na ulan is correct but malakas ng ulan is wrong.
