Ko is not used at the beginning of a sentence.

"Ko" is used after a specific verb or noun because it is used as an object.

Also after a noun as a possessive...
ang libro ko = my book
ang bahay ko = my house
etc.

For natives learning English as a SECOND language...all the equivalence...helps them understand all the unique English grammar. As English natives...learning Tagalog as a SECOND language...why would we burden Tagalog with English parallels. Tagalog has much cooler fluidity and nuance when you take her as she comes. Every tagalog sentence is 40 - 50% markers / linkers....then 10 - 15 emphasizers (softeners or strengtheners)....and then...if you listen...indicia of intent and motivation. To my ear, I prefer the DIRECTION of their emotion and culture. I get stronger CONNECTIONS to people in that approach. But if you prefer translation, enjoy. Kita kits salabas. Tagalog is more fun DIN!

Like most things in Filipino..."DEPENDE"...para sayo. I would suggest you get some feel for your short-term and long-term goals. Try watching some recent popular Tagalog / English movies and see what draws your fascination. With Amazon PRIME I can watch hundreds of Taglish movies most with English subtitles. I would guess the same for other streaming services.

Notice how efficient many of the sentences are in the dialogues. You can learn a ton of highly practical Tagalog in 4 words or less. Even fully proper sentences. Or do you really enjoy listening to the complexity of longer sentences and must know all the details? Do you love the utmost complexity and yearn for the details of grammar? Notice where the emotion comes in the expressions. Are you attracted to the sounds of the language or do you find them intimidating? Would you like to turn up your emotional connections or dial them down? For me, I care little about a perfectly translated sentence. The mechanics of conjugating verbs for aspect/tense and marking nouns for focus do not create deeper connections with Filipinos. But of course emotions are baked in with the language -- we are human, db? I am more human and a better person speaking Tagalog...but I seek out that part of the language and do not allow others to hide it from my foreign tongue and ears.

So get a deeper feel...and follow your FASCINATION. If you would like ideas on sequencing studies with your goals...drop me a message...and happy to share my experience. Kita kits sa labas.
