"Ng" is either a marker or the preposition "of." For example, "Bumili sila ng mais
(They bought corn). "Ng" marks the direct object of verbs conjugated in the affixe "um." (The root word of "bumili" is "bili." The affix "um" is an infix in this example. Another example: "Dinasalan ng mga tao ang istatwa ni Santa Margarita" (The people prayed to St Margaret's statue). "Ng" in this sentence marks the doer/actor/subject of the sentence with the verb conjugated in "an/han/nan." An example of "ng" used as the preposition "of": "ang baril ng tenyente" (the lieutenant's gun, OR the gun of the lieutenant). These a few uses of "ng."
