AY as the inversion marker is just that...marks the ANG focus noun before the verb.
PERIOD! A brilliant system for organizing words and clarifying verb references in longer sentences.
As for IS/TO BE...not useful for me avoiding "pretty little tranlsations" in either direction. Not wrong if you want to live in "pretty little translations" but not helpful in thinking in core meanings and expressing directly into Modern Filipino.
BUT that's my CONTEXT using English as a base...and EXPRESSING meaning INTO...TOWARD Filipino.
For Natives...in their CONTEXT using Tagalog as a base...and EXPRESSING proper grammatical english INTO...TOWARD English...AY=IS may well be helpful to produce Modern English...as well as notions of active/passive constructions...SVO...on and on,
ME...I LOVE LOVE LOVE the elegance of FILIPINO without the necessity to POLLUTE an elegant structure with all the "pretty little necessities" of English. To be clear, without a doubt, I am a better PERSON speaking Modern Filipino than English. And I do love my English...its just inferior in connecting with people. And that's the point for me...are you connecting with people.
But for Filipinos who want to speak Modern English as well as they do Modern Filipino...the convention of AY=IS="to be"....may well have high value without any notion of undue Foreigner Influence. Not really for ME to SAY.
Just a thought, maybe not.
