There are a lot of homographs in the Filipino language and the way you pronounce them changes the meaning of the word. There are 4 ways Filipino words are pronounced: Malumay, Malumi, Mabilis, and Maragsa. The malaman (verb) is malumay; the stress in on the 2nd syllable and the overall pronunciation is slow.
The malaman (adjective) is mabilis; the stress is on the 3rd or last syllable and the overall pronunciation is fast. The other stress classifications are the:
Malumi - read the word like malumay (slow) and the stress is on the 2nd syllable but the vowel at the end has a glottal stop. (bata - child)
Maragsa - read like mabilis (fast) and the stress is on the last syllable but the vowel at the end has a glottal stop. (basa - wet)The malumay and mabilis could end in either consonant or vowel, but the malumi and maragsa end only in a vowel.
