Julie, magandang umaga at welcome dito sa Frontline sa Umaga.
00:51.0
Siyempre, congratulations!
00:52.0
Thank you!
00:53.0
Una-una, what makes you more nervous?
00:56.0
Is it appearing on TV, preparing for your race, or trying to speak Tagalog?
01:01.0
Trying to speak Tagalog?
01:04.0
Added pressure bilang nasa TV.
01:06.0
01:25.0
Resolution 471.
01:28.0
How did that feel for you?
01:29.0
I mean, being there and receiving the honor.
01:33.0
Yeah, everything feels very surreal for me.
01:36.0
Hindi ako makapaniwala na Senator Joel Villanueva, thank you again for sponsoring the resolution.
01:43.0
I can't believe it na at this age, I'm gonna get something, such an honor in my life.
01:49.0
And I hope na my journey serves as inspiration sa mga kababayan natin.
01:55.0
02:06.0
Pwede ba kayo kwento sa amin?
02:07.0
Yeah, so, like I shared before, nag-start ako na mag-run at 44 years old.
02:14.0
That was my very first race.
02:15.0
So, I will be turning 50 next month.
02:18.0
So, I feel, it started with a dare lang from work na let's sign up to do this marathon.
02:26.0
And then I realized na pag nag-train ka pala, if you work hard, you can achieve your goal.
02:32.0
So, my goal sa first race ko na mag-Boston Qualify, and I worked very hard talagang may discipline and everything.
02:39.0
That's when I fell in love with running.
02:41.0
Kasi I realized na wow, if you put in the hard work, you stay disciplined in whatever you do in life, not just in running.
02:47.0
It applies to any areas in our life.
02:50.0
If we have a goal and we work hard, I feel na it will be granted to you.
02:54.0
And that's what happened to me in my first race.
02:56.0
And then that's when I realized na sigurong gift ito for me.
03:00.0
The running is a gift kasi later ko na na-discover wala akong running background before.
03:05.0
Wala no? As in wala talaga?
03:06.0
Zero talaga.
03:07.0
Zero.
03:08.0
03:10.0
Seven marathons, 42.2 kilometers in seven straight days.
03:15.0
Meaning lilipad ka and seven continents.
03:18.0
Ibang-ibang parte ng mundo.
03:20.0
Hindi ka ba naging jetlag?
03:22.0
And kamusta yung mismong karera?
03:25.0
How was that for you?
03:26.0
How did you maintain your endurance?
03:28.0
What was the most difficult part?
03:30.0
Okay, so the most difficult part.
03:32.0
At first when I signed up, syempre hindi ako sure kung matapos ko ito o hindi, right?
03:37.0
So I made the commitment na once I registered, talagang I'm gonna focus on my training.
03:42.0
So mentally, physically, it was a lot of hard work.
03:47.0
And syempre the hardest part is making sure na matapos mo yung seven, di ba?
03:52.0
Kasi it's not easy.
03:53.0
Tapos the hardest part ba, kasi we start in Antarctica, so the weather.
03:57.0
Super lamig.
03:58.0
Super lamig. Tapos you run sa snow and sa ice.
04:02.0
Tapos, you know, there's just a lot na talagang makes it very difficult na race.
04:09.0
And then, just trying to finish, staying tough mentally.
04:13.0
04:16.0
Pero sa dulo, you won four out of the seven.
04:21.0
And you placed actually four seconds behind the American runner in a close fight.
04:26.0
Yeah.
04:27.0
So, yeah, like I shared before na in the beginning, very defensive ako.
04:33.0
Like, I just wanna run to finish the race.
04:36.0
I wasn't like there to, syempre there's part of me, I'm competitive din.
04:40.0
Syempre there's part of me like, can I win this?
04:43.0
Tapos parang na-insecure ako sa kanila kasi I looked at the roster.
04:46.0
I researched their marathon time, sabi ko mas mabilis sila kesa sa akin.
04:50.0
But then sa isip ko naman, but I worked harder than them.
04:53.0
I think I did.
04:54.0
So in the beginning, defensive lang ako.
04:56.0
I was just checking them out.
04:58.0
And then yun nga, yung fourth, third, second.
05:01.0
Tapos yung sabi ko na there was somebody sa race na kinatawa ko siyang angel ko siya.
05:06.0
Kasi he believed in me before na believed in myself.
05:09.0
05:13.0
Sabi niya, go for it.
05:14.0
The minute we land in Dubai, you run to win.
05:18.0
And because he believed in me, parang nag-believe din ako sa sarili ko.
05:22.0
It gave me the confidence.
05:23.0
Kaya yun.
05:24.0
05:31.0
Pero syempre, may iba pang mas matinding motivation din si Julie for doing this.
05:35.0
05:39.0
So tell us more about that, kung sino yung sinusuportan?
05:42.0
Sinusuportan ko yung Kalipay Foundation sa Negros, Bacolod.
05:48.0
I fell in love with the kids kasi with the staff there.
05:52.0
What they do is take on mga abuse kids, mga abandoned kids in Negros.
05:57.0
And then they give them a chance at a new life.
05:59.0
Tapos when we went there, nakikita mo na yung staff talaga takes very good care of them.
06:05.0
The place is very clean and they provide them education and all that.
06:10.0
Julie, we honor you, we honor your achievement.
06:13.0
Thank you so much for carrying the Philippine flag in different parts of the world.
06:17.0
Uuwi na po si Julie sa Sagay Negros Occidental where she will be getting a hero's welcome there.
06:22.0
And donating about 4 million pesos for the abuse kids to build a healing center.
06:29.0
Congratulations and maraming maraming salamat.
06:32.0
More runs to come.
06:33.0
World Marathoner and Pinay Pride, Julie Uitsat.
06:36.0
06:40.0
Mabuhay po kayo.
