00:20.0
So ano yung partnership ngayon Miss Rina ng KCFI at USAID? Can you tell us about it? Why it's important especially to our youth?
00:34.0
Because it will help yung mga bata sa pagbabasa.
00:49.0
Yung Pilipinas, 90% of grade 5 kids can't really read age-appropriate texts.
01:10.0
02:09.0
Matagal na ginagawa ito ng Knowledge Channel. I mean to be very honest about it.
They're still in printed form.
03:07.0
Ito kasi importante that we need to start young. Grade 1 pa lang, early grades. Grade 1, Grade 2, Grade 3. Because that's the time that you learn how to read. And then in Grade 4, you read to learn naman.
03:29.0
So for you to read to learn, you have to know how to read. Kaya kailangan talaga yung fundasyon. The kids have to have a strong foundation talaga sa reading. Importante, importante yan.
03:48.0
So like yung ginawa ng Knowledge Channel para sa Grade 1, yan, oracy and beginning reading. Yan yung talagang foundation.
04:13.0
Ms. Rina, good afternoon. Rika po, partner ni Sir Peter now. The pandemic started this movement na meron po tayo on TV, on radio, DepEd has done it. But Knowledge Channel, even before the pandemic, has been doing this for a long time.
04:30.0
I'm very curious now because nakita po natin dahil sa pandemic, nagkaroon tayo ng learning losses. How did the partnership with USAID happen? Sino po yung unang nag-reach out? Is DepEd also in the mix para po ipalaga na palalo itong magiging proyekto ng kapamilya ng ating Knowledge Channel at ng USAID?
04:54.0
Yes, definitely DepEd is with us. As a matter of fact, during the launch, the MOU signing last week, we had officials from the Department of Education, Usec Annalyn Sevilla, Usec Alma Rubitorio, Usec J. H. Ambatno, and Director Susana Santiago.
05:21.0
So they're very excited as well about this program, and even some other programs that Knowledge Channel has produced for early childhood. It's like our I Love You 1000 videos, which is for care providers of 0 to 2. It's for the first 1000 days of life of a child.
05:51.0
Many things actually that we're doing now. But yes, DepEd is there. The USAID, so Acting Mission Director Rebecca Eubanks was there, and the Director of the Office of Education, Tom LeBlanc, was also there.
06:10.0
Then we had, of course, the ABC Plus Chief of Party, Ina Aquino, and former DepEd Assistant Secretary, Malcolm Garma, who's now with ABC Plus or with the USAID program as well.
06:28.0
So it's really a collaboration among the partners, the major stakeholders in this. So we're very excited about it. I think that this is even like a first step to an even bigger partnership that we can have with USAID and DepEd and RTI.
06:56.0
Because the next question, ma'am, is, paano po ang magiging rollout nito? Will this be shown on TV, on radio?
07:05.0
Yeah, we definitely started airing that today on TV, on all the different TV platforms off the Knowledge Channel and online as well.
07:24.0
So it's on air, online, and we'll probably be putting it as well in our offline platforms, the Knowledge Channel Portable Media Library and the Knowledge Channel TV.
07:36.0
I remember, Irina, nung nagsisimula lang ang Knowledge Channel, the vision was to put TV monitors and then via satellite feed the content to the classrooms.
07:50.0
Has it changed? Has the model changed?
07:58.0
Well, now the satellites are smaller, right? We don't have to bring anymore the huge satellite dishes and the huge CRT TV sets to the classrooms, to the schools.
08:14.0
But we still bring them to the schools. But more and more now, it's the stakeholders in the communities that are putting the TVs and the satellite dishes or the digital terrestrial TV satellite dishes in the classrooms.
08:37.0
But even more than that, it's also in the homes now. So the satellites and the TVs are much more accessible now.
08:51.0
Sometimes, we make sure though, we are in those platforms, in the cable TV platforms, in Signal, GSAT, satellite, beam, we get into as many platforms as we can, so that it would be accessible to the schools, to the homes, and to the communities.
09:18.0
Yeah. And especially at this particular stage, Miss Irina, na ang daming problema na binabata ng ating mga kabataan. You're talking about mental health, hindi lang yung hindi nga masyadong marunong magbasa yung karamihan as a result of the pandemic.
09:39.0
And at the same time, we just have HIV. We have suicide cases. I think, as a matter of fact, Knowledge Channel can definitely contribute so much in terms of not solving everything, but at least starting with the reading.
10:00.0
So maraming maraming salamat sa Knowledge Channel at saka sa lahat ng partners because God knows we need all the help we can get.
10:09.0
Yeah, we need all the help we can get. And, you know, one of the things that we're doing at Knowledge Channel is really starting on early childhood, up to 4.11, kindergarten, or the K-12 system, which StepEd takes care of.
10:35.0
We start with 0 to 4.11. And we believe that there, the foundation there is really very important. So you have nutrition, you have health, you have responsive caregiving, you have early learning, stimulation, and social protection.
10:57.0
All of this, you know, so that a child can develop better, be prepared for kindergarten, be prepared to learn, and be prepared for the world of work.
11:13.0
Because you were talking earlier about mental health, and, you know, focusing on the early childhood years will really help with cognitive functions, you know, even emotional and social intelligence.
11:39.0
Executive function is developed, you know, starts to develop in 3- and 4-year-olds. And, you know, nutrition in the first 1,000 days is very important from the time of control.
11:57.0
I don't know, sana yung mga malaman rin nila na yung pag-nutrition nila ay hindi lang para sa kanila, hindi lang para sa bata nila, anak nila, pero 2 or 3, even 3 generations, you know, forward.
12:25.0
Ang naaapekto sa nutrition nila. Kaya importante, importante rin yung early childhood development talaga.
12:38.0
So, yung knowledge channel ngayon, 0 to 8 years old, ang talagang focus namin. Yung 0 to 4.11, tapos yung 5 to 8 years old.
12:54.0
So yung 5 to 8 years old, yan yung what we're doing now together with the USAID, focusing on reading in Filipino and in English and then early numeracy as well. So early language literacy and numeracy.
13:18.0
Mukhang more or less kinder to grade 3. Maraming maraming salamat Ms. Rina for joining us this afternoon. We wish you well and we wish this partnership great success. Thank you.
13:33.0
Maraming maraming salamat Ren Peter.
13:47.0
Thank you.
