responsible for the oil spill in Oriental Mindoro.

Some 85 million pesos worth of smuggled sugar seized at the Subic Port.
00:29.5
And Poland becomes the first NATO member to grant Ukraine's request for fighter jets.
00:38.9
Welcome to the program.
00:40.0
The Philippine Maritime Industry Authority is grounding all vessels owned by the shipping
00:45.5
company responsible for the oil spill in Oriental Mindoro.
00:49.9
Aside from questionable documents to operate, Marina says it appears the sunken tanker also
00:55.7
did not have a license to transport fuel.
00:59.8
We created a fact-finding team to look into the matter of these certificates.
01:07.7
Of course, our processes in Marina using our circulars, this has already started.
01:12.4
The possibility of suspending, it has happened in the past, of suspending the company CPC
01:18.9
of a concerned company herein was already discussed and yes, it's going to be possible.
01:26.8
On Thursday, Justice Secretary Jesus Crispin Remulia also claimed the sunken vessel was
01:32.5
not brand new.
01:34.1
He described it as a scrap ship turned into an oil tanker.
01:39.3
02:15.3
The town of Pola in Oriental Mindoro seeking immediate assistance from the national government.
02:21.3
Pola Mayor Jennifer Cruz says nearly 200 residents have fallen ill due to the effects of the oil
02:28.1
spill.
02:29.1
She adds, out of the over 4,000 affected families, only 70 individuals were part of
02:35.0
government's Cash for Work program.
02:37.1
Pola's local government is working with several agencies in investigating the incident.
02:46.1
Until now po, ang decision po namin ay to file the case against dun po sa may-ari ng
02:52.1
03:00.1
Then sumulat po kami sa DOJ, Secretary.
03:04.1
And good thing po, nag-response naman po kaagad.
03:07.1
03:15.1
The oil spill in Oriental Mindoro, meanwhile, reaches several villages in Calapan City.
03:20.1
The local government has installed oil spill booms in 23 coastal villages in a bid to contain it.
03:27.1
Fishing has been banned in several areas, while the elderly and those with respiratory
03:32.1
diseases were advised to evacuate.
03:38.1
03:58.1
The Philippine Fisheries Bureau says there's enough fish supply nationwide despite the massive oil spill in Oriental Mindoro.
04:06.1
Fish catch from the province accounts for 3% of the total production in the Mimaropa region.
04:12.1
But the Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources warns fish prices may increase in affected areas if the oil spill is not immediately contained.
04:25.1
Sa ngayon, hindi pa naman natin nakikita yung shortage sa supply on a national scale.
04:30.1
But of course, we need to recognize na just because of the oil spill,
04:35.1
04:58.1
Following the law of supply and demand, lalo na yung mga areas na maralapit sa Oriental Mindoro,
05:03.1
05:13.1
Philippine authorities seized 780,000 kilos of smuggled refined sugar in Zambales worth P85 million.
05:22.1
The Agriculture Department says the shipment was misdeclared as rubber products.
05:28.1
Officials will pursue charges against the consignee, MFBY Consumer Goods Trading.
05:34.1
The company was previously involved in the smuggling of onions and other agricultural products at the Manila International Container Port.
05:45.1
The Philippine Agriculture Department admits more needs to be done to bring down rice prices to 20 pesos per kilo.
05:52.1
That's even after President Marcos, the Concurrent Agriculture Chief, said government is close to reaching that goal.
06:22.1
A rice monitoring group, meanwhile, wants more clarity on how exactly Marcos can actualize his campaign promise regarding lower rice prices.
06:52.1
07:12.1
In other news, the camp of Philippine lawmaker Arnulfo Tevez Jr. confirms his request for a two-month leave of absence was denied by House Speaker Martin Romaldez.
07:27.1
Tevez, who is facing criminal complaints and is being tagged in the death of Negros Oriental Governor Ruel de Gamo, is currently abroad.
07:37.1
His legal counsel, Atty. Ferdinand Topacio, says they are planning to appeal the Speaker's decision. Romaldez has given Tevez until March 20 to come home and report for work.
07:49.1
08:13.1
Meanwhile, police released two of the six people arrested during the March 10 raid on the properties of Congressman Tevez. One of them is his secretary. The PNP says they were released because the complaints against them lack probable cause.
08:31.1
The remaining four are still under police custody to determine the real owner of the firearms and explosives seized during the raids.
08:43.1
Slay Negros Oriental Governor Ruel de Gamo laid to rest Thursday amid tight security. Thousands turned out for his burial to demand justice for the local official.
08:54.1
De Gamo's widow, Paplona Mayor Janice de Gamo, is also hoping those who killed her husband will finally be caught. She also did not hide her dismay over the request of lawmaker Arnulfo Tevez Jr. for a two-month extension of his leave of absence.
09:13.1
Pwede siyang umuwi at pwede kaming magharap. Two months extension doesn't make any sense. Why? Uy, first time kong narinig yan, takot din pala siya sa security.
09:33.1
De Gamo and eight others were killed in an armed attack inside his private compound on March 4.
09:42.1
Over a thousand residents of Marawi City will head to the polls Saturday, March 18, for a plebiscite on the creation of two new villages.
09:51.1
The Commission on Elections says the creation of the villages is a result of the displacement of residents during the Marawi siege in 2017, which triggered an increase in population in some areas.
10:06.1
Barangay Boganga, too, is proposed to be created from Barangay Boganga. Meanwhile, Barangay Dato Dalidigan is proposed to be established from Barangay Sagon-Songan.
10:20.1
10:52.1
Marawi City Mayor Majul Usman Gamdamras meanwhile says they are ready to hold the vote.
10:59.1
11:16.1
The Philippine Immigration Bureau clarifies there's no need to bring yearbook photos when traveling abroad. This after a viral TikTok video alleged an immigration officer asked many irrelevant questions that caused a passenger to miss her flight.
11:35.1
That included her educational background. The agency spokesperson says that officer has been transferred to back-end offices.
11:47.1
When we asked the immigration officer involved, he denied asking for a yearbook photo. But perhaps he was interested in knowing the background of the person who went viral. But definitely this is not part of the regular questions of immigration officers.
12:06.1
We have initiated a review of the procedures at the airport for those undergoing secondary inspection. We have been following a department order from the Department of Justice. It's the Memorandum Circular No. 36, if I'm not mistaken, which serves as the guide of our immigration officers on how to conduct the secondary inspection.
12:30.1
The bureau is also appealing for understanding in its implementation of strict airport protocols. That's as it continues to beef up efforts to address human trafficking.
12:43.1
It seems like it's not stopping. So we have shifted maybe our focus in the manner that we deliver our reminders or our warnings to those who are interested to go abroad. We have tried to go to where they are receiving these informations, which is in social media.
13:02.1
We have coordinated with several social media platforms to discuss ways on how to combat these illegal scammers to try to entice our kababayan.
13:17.1
We're taking a quick break. Coming up, the Pentagon releases a declassified footage showing how Russia intercepted a U.S. drone over the Black Sea. More on that when we come back. Stay with ANC's Rundown.
13:32.1
Back with more news. Poland will send four fighter jets to Ukraine in the coming days, becoming the first NATO member to fulfill Kiev's repeated requests. Polish President Andrzej Duda said the planes will be handed over in the coming days.
13:57.1
Warsaw has taken the lead in persuading hesitant NATO members to provide Kiev with heavy weaponry. The move could put pressure on other member states to do the same. Poland has sent 14 heavy-duty tanks to Ukraine and has expressed intent to send more.
14:15.1
The White House says the U.S. has sufficient resources to support Ukraine through the end of this fiscal year. White House Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre said bipartisan congressional support for Ukraine continues.
14:31.1
That was done in a bipartisan way. So, of course, we're going to continue to elevate whether any additional resources are needed based on the conditions that we're currently seeing on the ground.
14:44.1
The latest military aid package from the U.S. announced on March 3rd was worth $400 million. Ukraine has received about $6 billion in Western aid so far this year.
14:59.1
The Pentagon released its footage showing the encounter prior to the crash of a U.S. spy drone into the Black Sea. This report.
15:10.1
A Russian Su-27 jet approaching an American MQ-9 Reaper drone, spraying fuel and blinding its camera, says the Pentagon, which released the footage Thursday. U.S. officials say either the same jet or another Russian fighter approached again, hitting the MQ-9's propeller, forcing Washington to bring down the drone in international waters.
15:31.1
It's not unusual for us to release imagery of unsafe, unprofessional incidents. We've done that in other situations. And so, particularly in this case, given the reckless and dangerous behavior and to demonstrate publicly what type of actions the Russians had taken, we felt that it was important to provide this imagery.
15:53.1
The U.S. said the drone, like this one, was flying in international airspace over the Black Sea off the coast of Ukraine, a claim Moscow disputes.
16:04.1
They totally ignored the fact that after the start of the special military operation, our military has declared certain areas of the Black Sea near the shore as areas with limited access to any aerial vehicles.
16:17.1
Moscow also denied its aircraft clipped the drone's propeller and said it would try to retrieve the wreckage, warning it would react proportionately to any future U.S. provocations. The White House says it is aiming to de-escalate.
16:47.1
We do not seek armed conflicts with Russia. We maintain direct lines of communication for reasons like this to minimize risk of escalation. But again, we do not seek armed conflict with Russia.
16:58.1
Intercepts between Russian and NATO aircraft off Ukraine's Black Sea coast are common, but the downing of the U.S. drone raised concerns of escalation between two nuclear superpowers already at odds over Ukraine.
17:11.1
The fact that we were operating probably a drone that was providing some kind of intel to support the Ukrainian war effort. Does that make us an indirect participant, a direct participant at that point? Very much a gray zone. And so I think both sides are really kind of in this gray zone here. And we're negotiating, frankly, through these kinds of incidents, what the limits are around what the Russians will find acceptable and what they're actually willing to push back on.
17:39.1
Grieco said Russian forces have used coercive signaling in various conflict zones, including Ukraine and Syria. However, the Kremlin appears reluctant to trigger NATO's principle of collective defense. Meanwhile, President Joe Biden has repeatedly vowed not to commit U.S. forces to direct conflict with Russia.
17:59.1

18:05.1
Switching gears now, fans of the Marvel franchise were treated to an immersive exhibit in Canada featuring the much-loved stars of The Avengers. Rowena Papacin tells us more.
18:17.1
Hardcore Marvel fans from around Vancouver tripped to the Avengers Station exhibit to experience the interactive research lab and engineering hub of their favorite heroes. Among them is Filipino-Canadian content creator Irwin Yap, who also cosplays different characters, including his favorite Marvel hero, the Black Panther. Yap said the immersive exhibit felt like he is part of the Avengers team.
18:43.1
It is immersive, and the fact that you can see what's on the screen live. You know, they've got full-size statues, full-size everything, and I think any fan is going to be very excited to see it and experience it.
18:56.1
The exhibit featured the shield and motorbike of Captain America, the green fists of the Hulk, Iron Man and his hall of armor, and an Iron Man flight simulator. Fans also had a chance to hold Thor's hammer to varying results.
19:11.1
I think my favorite was the Thor's hammer, just because I don't know if you guys got to try it. Only a few of you. If you're worthy, the whole thing lights up.
19:21.1
I tried, but I wasn't able to live it up. I guess I'm not worthy.
19:26.1
Filipino-Canadian teen Cody loved that he was able to have an interactive experience with Iron Man and the Hulk. He was also amazed at the creator's attention to detail.
19:38.1
I appreciate how they took the time to think about how this actually works. How would Iron Man's suit actually work? How does his chest work? Nanotechnology, of course, but it's very realistic, the idea in general.
19:53.1
Interplanetary villains from the Avengers movies led by Thanos were also on display. Parents with kids, uncles and aunts said they had a good time at the show.
20:05.1
We came here because of the fans of Avengers. It's just amazing to see their exhibits.
20:13.1
Especially kids, I think they have the most fun. Or if you're big kids like me, then you have a lot of fun too.
20:18.1
Director of Exhibit Operations Mark Fraser Davidson said the Avengers Station allows the audience to experience what it's like to be in the Avengers movies.
20:28.1
All of the artifacts here are made by professionals for the movies and you get to get up close and personal and see them in a way you never do on the big screen.
20:37.1
People should really take a look at it. It's really well worth it and I think they didn't skimp on anything. It's a good experience.
20:44.1
Fraser Davidson added that this may be the last time that the Avengers Station will be in Canada after it ends its limited run at the Brentwood Mall in Burnaby on May 28.
20:55.1
Rowena Papasin, ABS-CBN News, Vancouver.
21:00.1
And before we go, Taylor Swift's Midnight's Mayhem continues.
21:04.1
At the stroke of midnight Eastern time, Swift dropped four previously unreleased songs to mark the start of the Ears Tour.
21:12.1
The songs include three Taylor's version and an outtake from her Lover album.
21:17.1
She kicked the excitement into high gear as she released some snaps from her tour rehearsals.
21:23.1
The Ears Tour kicks off Friday, March 17 in Glendale, Arizona, which temporarily changed its name to Swift City in honor of the pop superstar.
21:36.1
And that's the rundown. I'm Denise Dinsai. Thank you so much for watching.
