When using "kanina", the important thing to consider is that the event that happened earlier has to have happened today. Sometimes we add "umaga" (morning), "tanghali" (noon) or "hapon" (afternoon) after it to give it a more specific time frame. When used that way, it becomes "kaninang" (kanina + na).
