"Puwede," meaning "can" in English, usually has an element of seeking or granting permission for something or to be allowed to do something (Ex: Can I go to th movies?). This is different than "kaya" or the "Maka-" verb conjugations which also mean "can," but in a different way - as in having the "ability" to do something / being able to do something (Ex: I can walk because my leg has healed.)
