00:45.9
The Hong Kong International Airport is right here on reclaimed land on Czech Lapkok Island.
00:51.2
And Tsim Sha Tsui, often abbreviated as TST, is right here.
00:56.0
Right here in Kowloon.
00:58.2
It is a favorite among budget travelers because of its endless options
01:02.0
of small but relatively affordable hotels and inns.
01:05.4
It's also very, very accessible.
01:08.2
Let's take a closer look at TST on the map.
01:11.3
Running through this area, you'll find Nathan Road, which serves as the district's main artery.
01:16.7
It is punctuated with several bus stops and also MTR stations
01:20.9
because a big part of it runs parallel to the MTR Chuen 1 line.
01:25.3
This line is especially useful for tourists.
01:27.4
Because most of the city's key attractions are accessible from it.
01:32.2
Tsim Sha Tsui has another popular side, the area surrounding Chatham Road,
01:36.5
which is also lined with several lodging, dining, and shopping establishments.
01:41.5
So how do you get here from the airport?
01:43.7
How do you get from here to here?
01:46.4
You have two main options, by train and by bus.
01:50.5
Let's start with the bus.
01:55.2
The bus to catch is 18.
01:57.2
Not only is this the cheapest, it is also the easiest and the most convenient option.
02:04.7
Because unlike the other options that I'm gonna share with you in this video,
02:08.5
this is a direct way and does not entail switching or transferring along the way.
02:13.2
At least if your hotel is located near Nathan Road or Chatham Road.
02:17.9
But before that, you might want to consider getting an Octopus Card,
02:21.4
which can make your journey much easier and cheaper too.
02:25.3
An Octopus Card is a prepaid reloading card.
02:27.2
It's a portable card that you can use for MTR and bus rides and even purchases at select stores.
02:32.6
It will allow you to skip buying tickets each time you're taking the MTR or scramble for coins when you're taking the bus.
02:39.2
All you need to do is tap the card above the reader and you're through.
02:42.8
The fare is also cheaper when you use an Octopus Card than when paying at the station.
02:48.3
And if you're taking public transportation multiple times, these discounts rack up and you'll end up saving a lot.
02:55.3
You can get an Octopus Card from Cloak.
02:58.0
It costs HK$97, but it already comes with a $50 load that you can use right away.
03:04.9
You can pick it up at the airport's arrival hall.
03:07.3
In our case, we claimed our Octopus Card at this counter.
03:11.1
You can also book a Data Sim on Cloak and pick it up at the airport too.
03:15.9
A Data Sim will make your navigating much easier so you're sure you're getting off at the right stop.
03:21.6
To reserve an Octopus Card and a Data Sim Card,
03:25.3
follow the link in the description and pinned comment.
03:28.1
Don't forget to use the promo code THEPOORTRAVELER for extra discount.
03:32.7
After claiming your luggage at the carousel, you'll emerge into the arrival hall.
03:36.8
Pick up your Octopus Card and Sim Card at the right counter,
03:40.0
and then head to your right or follow the bus signs to the bus terminus,
03:44.3
which is right in front of the airport building.
03:46.8
It is located outside, and it looks like this.
03:50.6
Now, check the signs and look for the A21 bus stop.
03:54.0
There's usually a queue at the bus stop.
03:55.1
There's usually a queue at the bus stop. There's usually a queue at the bus stop.
03:55.3
There's usually a queue at the bus stop. There's usually a queue at the bus stop.
03:55.8
There's usually a queue at the bus stop. There's usually a queue at the bus stop.
03:55.8
Because it's a very popular area.
03:58.2
And wait for the bus, the A21 bus.
04:01.8
Airport buses are double-deckers.
04:04.0
They also display the route or bus number in front so make sure you're boarding the right bus.
04:08.8
When it's time to board, prepare your Octopus Card and tap it or hover it above the card reader,
04:14.4
installed just by the entrance door of the bus.
04:17.0
If you decide not to get an Octopus Card, you can pay by cash,
04:20.6
but make sure you have the exact amount because they don't give change.
04:24.2
The fare is HK$34.6.
04:28.5
Upon boarding, you'll immediately see this baggage section where you could leave your suitcase.
04:33.9
There are also a few seats here, but if none is available, just climb to the top deck.
04:39.0
Don't worry, there are cameras pointed at the baggage area so you could still keep an eye on your bag.
04:44.3
Travel time is 60 to 90 minutes depending on where you are alighting and the traffic situation at the time.
04:51.0
Or if you're bound for Tsim Sha Tsui,
04:54.0
find out which of these stops is closest to your hotel.
04:59.5
If you'll be staying at an inn or guesthouse at Chungking Mansions or Mirador Mansion,
05:04.4
your stop is Middle Road, Corner Nathan Road.
05:07.7
Oh wait wait wait, before I forget, the A21 bus is available from 5.30 am to midnight.
05:14.8
But what if your flight is scheduled to arrive in Hong Kong past midnight?
05:19.0
In that case, instead of taking the A21 bus, take the N21 bus.
05:22.3
Instead of taking the A21 bus, take the N21 bus.
05:23.0
Instead of taking the A21 bus, take the N21 bus.
05:24.0
This bus is available from 1220 am to 440 am.
05:28.2
It also makes several stops in Tsim Sha Tsui.
05:31.0
And the fare is HK$23.8.
05:34.9
Just research first which stop is closest to your hotel.
05:39.4
Speaking of hotels, prices of accommodations have increased dramatically in Hong Kong over the years.
05:45.4
If you're still looking for a place to stay and you want to score big discounts,
05:49.0

06:02.3
If the bus is the easiest option, the airport express is the fastest.
06:07.2
There are two possible routes, but both involve a transfer or two.
06:11.4
You see, the airport express train runs along this side of Kowloon,
06:15.6
not along Nathan Road, and it terminates at Hong Kong Station,
06:19.6
which is located in Hong Kong Island Central District.
06:22.4
It only has three stops other than the airport.
06:26.3
Chinggis Station, which is located here,
06:28.7
Kowloon Station, right here, just outside Tsim Sha Tsui,
06:31.9
and Hong Kong Station, located in the Central District, over here.
06:36.4
You can purchase tickets on-site, but it's much cheaper to book online,
06:40.6
especially on cloak.
06:42.0
Take a look at this.
06:45.6
As you can see, you'll end up saving a lot if you book a round-trip ticket
06:49.4
instead of two one-way tickets.
06:51.3
And you'll also save more if you purchase from cloak,
06:54.7
as much as 20 Hong Kong Dollars.
06:57.9
And you know what? The gift just keeps on giving.
07:01.0
If you want to score even more discounts,
07:03.2
use our exclusive promo code, ThePoorTraveler, as you check out.
07:06.8
Again, you'll find the links in the description and pinned comment.
07:10.4
But hold on, what station should you choose when booking?
07:13.9
Chinggis, Kowloon, or Hong Kong Station?
07:16.7
Well, it depends on your final destination.
07:19.2
Before you book, check if your hotel is in Hong Kong.
07:21.7
If your hotel is closer to the Airport Express Kowloon Station
07:24.4
or MTR Tsim Sha Tsui Station.
07:27.0
If Kowloon Station is nearer, select Kowloon Station.
07:30.7
If it's closer to the MTR Chuen Wan Line like Tsim Sha Tsui Station or Jordan Station,
07:35.6
then choose Hong Kong Station.
07:37.9
Now that we have the tickets out of the way,
07:40.3
let's talk about what you should do upon arrival.
07:43.5
At the arrival hall, look for the Airport Express Station.
07:47.3
If you booked online, just scan your QR code at the electronic gates
07:52.2
Then, time to hop on board.
07:54.5
Alight at either Kowloon Station or Hong Kong Station, whichever is more convenient.
07:59.3
If your hotel is close to Kowloon Station, then good.
08:02.2
You can simply walk to your hotel from here.
08:04.6
Otherwise, ride the train all the way to Hong Kong Station, the last stop.
08:09.6
From Hong Kong Station, walk to Central Station.
08:12.5
It's a 7 to 10-minute walk, but don't worry, it's all flat and indoors.
08:17.3
There is an established trail underground that connects to the MTR Central Station.
08:21.2
It's like walking through a mall.
08:24.5
The Central Station is no longer part of Airport Express,
08:27.7
so if you booked online, you'll need to use your Octopus Card from here on.
08:32.1
Central Station is the first station on the Chuen Wan Line,
08:35.4
so it's very likely that you'll get a seat on the train.
08:39.0
Board a train bound for Chuen Wan and alight at Tsim Sha Tsui Station
08:42.5
or whichever station is closest to your hotel.
08:47.2
There used to be a free shuttle service carrying passengers
08:50.2
from Kowloon Station or Hong Kong Station to various spots around the city,
08:54.0
but this has been discontinued.
08:55.8
Regardless, the Airport Express is indeed the fastest way to get to the city center.
09:00.4
Because from the airport, it only takes 24 minutes to Kowloon Station
09:04.2
and 32 minutes to Hong Kong Station.
09:06.7
But you'll need to add the transfer time and the travel time from Central Station to your hotel.
09:11.3
It should still take you almost an hour in total.
09:14.7
But actually, there is a cheaper way by train.
09:17.6
It also uses both the Airport Express and the MTR,
09:19.6
but instead of getting off at Hong Kong Station,
09:23.1
you'll alight at Tsing Yi Station instead.
09:26.1
At Tsing Yi Station, switch to Tung Chung Line or Orange Line
09:29.7
and get off at Lai King Station.
09:32.3
Switch to the Chuen Wan Line or Red Line
09:34.5
and finally, alight at either Tsim Sha Tsui Station or Jordan Station, whichever is closer.
09:40.3
The downside is, this route entails two transfers,
09:43.7
which some people might not prefer,
09:45.8
especially those with heavy luggage in tow,
09:48.0
and I'm assuming you'll be carrying a lot of luggage.
09:49.7
It's just difficult getting on and off the train multiple times while carrying a bag,
09:56.3
even more so when it's crowded on board.
09:59.0
Lai King Station is often crowded at peak hours because it is in the middle of the line.
10:07.8
It's easy to return to the airport from Tsim Sha Tsui.
10:10.9
Whether you took the bus or the train, all you have to do is trace your steps back.
10:15.9
If you took the Airport Express via Hong Kong Station,
10:18.6
just take the MRT,
10:19.7
Tsuen Wan Line back to Central Station and transfer to Hong Kong Station.
10:23.9
And catch the Airport Express back to the airport.
10:27.3
If you took the Tsing Yi route,
10:28.9
take the same MTR, Tsuen Wan Line to return to Lai King Station.
10:33.1
Transfer to the Orange-Tung Chung Line and get off at Tsing Yi.
10:36.6
Finally, catch the Airport Express to the airport.
10:40.2
If by bus, just remember to wait for and board the bus on the other side of the road.
10:45.7
Although, to be honest, we don't recommend taking the A21 bus when airport bound.
10:49.9
You see, from airport to Kowloon, the bus is always largely empty.
10:54.6
But when going back to the airport, Tsim Sha Tsui is in the middle of the route,
10:58.7
which means there are fewer seats available on board.
11:02.0
Not to mention that the bus is subject to traffic conditions so it can take much, much longer,
11:07.1
which can be pretty stressful when you have a flight to catch.
11:10.3
On a recent trip, Vince and I even had a mini contest on who would get to the airport first.
11:15.7
Vince took the A21 bus while I took the train.
11:19.9
By a huge margin.
11:21.4
I was already waiting for 40 minutes by the time Vince's bus reached the airport.
11:26.8
So guys, we're here at Hong Kong International Airport.
11:32.0
Vince is supposed to meet me here but he's not here.
11:35.1
So I think I'm the first one here.
11:36.6
We're supposed to meet here at that counter.
11:40.1
He's not here yet so I think I'm the one who got the challenge here.
11:46.6
So there you go, guys.
11:47.8
We're here at Hong Kong International Airport.
11:49.8
It's really faster than the airport express train.
11:53.0
Yosh and I only drove for 30 minutes.
11:55.0
I only took the bus for 1 hour and 8 minutes.
11:60.0
But that's because of the traffic.
12:03.2
But if you're surprised, it's really cheaper than the bus because it only costs 36 HKD.
12:10.2
If you compare it to the airport express train, it costs 115 Hong Kong Dollars.
12:17.8
So, which is the best way to get from the airport to Tsim Sha Tsui?
12:24.8
If your hotel is close to Nathan Road or Chatham Road, I think hands down the A21 bus is the best option.
12:31.8
It takes a bit longer but it is the most convenient and the least stressful.
12:36.8
But when going back to the airport, we recommend the MTR and airport express combo.
12:42.8
