Hello! Hello! Hi everyone! Welcome to TALK and EARLY CHILDHOOD SERIES with me, your host, Bianca Gonzales.
00:17.0
At alam natin, syempre, na the struggle is real talaga sa pagpapalaki ng ating mga anak.
00:22.0
Kaya naman, we are here for you at sama-sama tayong matututo as we go along each episode.
00:28.0
We are super excited to share with you the different tips and tricks mula sa ating roster of Early Childhood Experts.
00:36.0
Syempre, yan ang pinaka-importante dito sa TALK ED. Talagang expert ang ating mga ginaguest and all the information that we share.
00:44.0
Syempre, base yan sa mga studies, base yan sa experience, so mapagkakatiwalaan niyo talaga.
00:51.0
But before we start, may mga routines ba kayo with your kids?
00:55.0
Yan ang ating pag-uusapan ngayong araw. Tapos ano yung ginagawa nyo kapag hindi nasusunod yung routine na yun?
01:03.0
Ano ba yung mga house rules nyo as a family?
01:31.0
She's a family life and child development specialist with over 20 years of experience as an early childhood teacher.
01:38.0
She's currently a professor at Wesleyan University and Mission Ministries, Philippines.
01:44.0
Siya din ang director ng programs Homeschool Global Roses at advisor sa homeschooling families.
01:50.0
Let us all welcome Teacher Elizabeth King-Santos. Hello Teacher Beth!
01:56.0
Hello everybody! Thank you for having me here at TALK ED.
02:00.0
Nakakatuwa to have you here with us.
02:03.0
Teacher Beth, diretso na tayo sa ating topic dahil siyempre we've been talking about routines.
02:09.0
Yan ang keyword I guess for this episode.
02:13.0
So I'll get straight to the point. Bakit importante, bakit kailangan may routine for adults and especially for children?
02:22.0
That's a very good question Bianca. Actually, akala nga ng iba ang routines para lang sa mga preschool teachers like me na sa classroom.
02:31.0
Pero actually hindi. Ang routines kailangan natin pati sa bahay.
02:35.0
And it's very important kasi ang dami niyang benefits na nabibigay hindi lang sa bata, hindi lang sa parents kung hindi sa buong pamilya.
02:43.0
So ano ba itong mga benefits na ito?
02:45.0
So for children, kunwari nakakatulong ang mga routines para makabigyan ang mga bata ng sense of safety and security.
02:54.0
Kasi alam nila kung anong mangyayari na sunod.
02:57.0
Diba nakakaano sa bata pag hindi nila alam ano na bang gagawin ko, ano na bang mangyayari sunod.
03:02.0
Nakakatarantayon and it gives them a little bit of sense of stress.
03:06.0
But when they know and it's very predictable kung anong mangyayari, anong kailangan gawin,
03:12.0
then mas nagiging nagkakaroon sila ng sense of security.
03:16.0
And then also it is part of their developmental tasks.
03:19.0
As children grow older, dumadami ang kanilang responsibilities and dumadami ang mga kaya nilang gawin.
03:26.0
And kadalasan nakatoon din yan dun sa mga routines na lumalabas sa mga pamilya.
03:32.0
And then natuturoan silang magkaroon ng sense of responsibility which is very important.
03:37.0
And it helps build in them good habits and character development.
03:42.0
Nakakailangan nila in the future.
03:45.0
And then also the routines help children feel empowered.
03:48.0
Yung bang alam nila na may nagagawa sila, may naa-accomplish sila.
03:52.0
Na kahit hindi sila paalalahanan, parang,
03:54.0
Uy, nagawa ko to. Kaya minsan maririnig mo, Mommy, I fixed my bed.
03:59.0
Kasi proud sila eh. So magkakaroon sila ng feeling of empowerment.
04:04.0
Pero ano naman yun para sa ating mga magulang?
04:08.0
Ang number one na naisip ko, less stress for all.
04:12.0
Diba, Bianca? I'm sure you have little kids now, diba?
04:17.0
Me, I have a 14-year-old turning 15.
04:21.0
And a 10-year-old.
04:24.0
So, na-experience ko yan lalo na yung smaller, yung maliit pa talaga sila,
04:30.0
na parang feeling ko malalagas na yung buhok ko kakapanala, diba?
04:34.0
You remember that time na paulit-ulit, you have to remember yung ganyan.
04:38.0
But, if the routine is set already, then that diminishes.
04:42.0
Parang nawawala na. Hindi mo na kailangan paalalahanan.
04:45.0
And then magulit ka ginagawa na nila.
04:48.0
Sa amin kasi sa family, we have what we call the five B's and a V.
04:52.0
Ano yung five B's and a V?
04:54.0
Five, sorry, nakakatong twister.
04:57.0
Five B's and a V.
05:01.0
Okay, okay, okay. Five B's and a V. Okay, ano yun, Teacher Beth?
05:05.0
Bed. That means they need to fix their bed as soon as they wake up.
05:09.0
Bath.
05:13.0
Brush, of course, the teeth.
05:15.0
And then breakfast.
05:17.0
And then Bible.
05:19.0
So yun yung five B's namin.
05:21.0
And then the V is vitamins. COVID kasi.
05:24.0
Panahon ng COVID na dagdagan natin.
05:26.0
Because of the COVID season.
05:29.0
So at the start, it was a little bit more difficult.
05:31.0
Kasi kailangan paalalahanan, you have to follow through.
05:34.0
But then nung nasanay na sila, I would notice that they didn't need me to remind them anymore.
05:41.0
Ma-charts pa, nanakasulat, para may vishworking yung bata.
05:45.0
But then pag nasasanay na sila, when it becomes a habit, I don't need to remind them.
05:51.0
Pate when they need to pack away, kasi atleta yung dalawa kong anak,
05:54.0
Friday night pa lang, ayos na yung gamit nila for the next day.
05:59.0
Wow.
06:01.0
They don't check their bags.
06:03.0
So, kumpleto na yun hanggang pandigo nila for after training.
06:07.0
And they started since my son was seven, my eldest.
06:11.0
And until now.
06:12.0
So that one, less stress, diba?
06:15.0
Pag di natin kailangan magpaalala.
06:18.0
But of course, my boys aren't perfect.
06:20.0
There are still days that, you know, minsan na ano ng ginagawa, ganun.
06:25.0
But generally, they have their habits and their routines set already.
06:31.0
But it wasn't easy at the start.
06:34.0
But the routines will help your family run smoothly.
06:38.0
Kasi, diba, when everybody's doing what they're supposed to be doing,
06:42.0
mas masaya.
06:44.0
So you have more time to spend enjoyable time together.
06:49.0
Kaya paaalala nagnanag.
06:51.0
And ayokong magnag.
06:53.0
Diba, nakakabawas ng kagandahan ang pagnanag.
06:56.0
Mommy Bianca, I'm sure yun.
06:58.0
Yes, yes.
07:00.0
Sobrang kompleto nun ang sinabi mo.
07:02.0
I have zero follow-up questions sa totoo lang.
07:05.0
But I wanted to point to what you said earlier, Teacher Beth,
07:09.0
na parang hindi naging madali papunta dun.
07:13.0
Kasi sabi mo ngayon, pinaprepare yung sariling bagay,
07:16.0
di mo natin nacheck.
07:17.0
Parang for any parent listening, that's like, that's a dream.
07:21.0
Diba?
07:22.0
But that's what we're going to break down, I guess, sa episode na to.
07:26.0
Anong edad ba dapat nagsisimula?
07:28.0
Paano kung mag-resist yung bata?
07:30.0
We will talk about that later, mga parents.
07:32.0
Okay.
07:33.0
Teacher Beth here on TalkEd.
07:35.0
Nagsishare talaga tayo ng real-life stories
07:37.0
ng parents na similar yung pinagdadaanan.
07:40.0
So right now, we will share to everyone the kwento of Mommy Jill.
07:45.0
Okay?
07:46.0
Siya ngayon currently building routines for their son, Sam.
07:51.0
So everyone, let's watch this.
07:53.0
Sa amin kasi very important ang routine.
07:55.0
But since our son is still very young,
07:58.0
the routine that we're trying to build for him
08:02.0
and for us also as a family,
08:04.0
it's something na maintindihan niya up to his understanding.
08:08.0
So my son, Sam, is just two years old.
08:11.0
Pero hindi ko siya in-enroll in any online schooling yet.
08:15.0
Kasi parang ganun din.
08:17.0
Since I was a preschool teacher,
08:19.0
kami yung nag-study together.
08:22.0
After eating breakfast and playtime in the morning,
08:25.0
magla-launch na kami together as a family.
08:28.0
And then kapag may mga orders kami,
08:30.0
usually lunch and dinner kasi yung orders.
08:32.0
Sometimes sa ngayon, since he's big enough,
08:35.0
he actually helps out.
08:37.0
Kaya nahilig siya din sa kitchen toys.
08:40.0
Ganun.
08:41.0
So nagsisuot din siya ng apron,
08:43.0
like what we're wearing.
08:45.0
Tapos nakikiluto din siya.
08:47.0
So minsan sinasama na namin sa routine namin yun.
08:50.0
Actually, na kapag meron kaming orders,
08:52.0
ini-involve namin siya.
08:54.0
Because we believe na
08:57.0
he actually learns from hands-on experiences.
09:00.0
Sam is very verbal already
09:02.0
and he's very comprehensive.
09:04.0
Nadediscuss na namin sa kanya yung
09:07.0
there's a time for everything.
09:09.0
So alam niya na pag playtime, playtime.
09:12.0
Tapos may eating time, may eating time.
09:14.0
So hindi isasabayin with play.
09:16.0
And then sleeping time also.
09:18.0
Time na.
09:19.0
Before sleeping time.
09:21.0
Magta-transition kami from playing
09:23.0
to a quiet activity.
09:26.0
Para mag-die down na energy niya.
09:28.0
There you go.
09:29.0
Ang kwento ni Mommy Jill
09:31.0
with their son Sam.
09:33.0
Okay. Actually, Teacher Beth,
09:35.0
si Sam dun sa video looked very, very young.
09:38.0
So I guess yun nga.
09:40.0
Pabalikan ko yung na-mention ko kanina.
09:42.0
At what age ba pwedeng magsimulang
09:45.0
mag-establish ng routines?
09:47.0
Para sa mga anak natin.
09:49.0
Actually, you can start the day they are born.
09:53.0
So the longer that you start, the better.
09:56.0
Kasi di ba ang babies when they're born,
09:59.0
they still have routines.
10:00.0
May sleeping time yung
10:02.0
matalas yung sleeping time.
10:04.0
And then there's also feeding time.
10:06.0
So maikli lang yung kanilang routine.
10:08.0
But they still have a routine.
10:10.0
So you can start as young as they are
10:13.0
and then just grow kumbaga
10:15.0
and develop as they develop as well.
10:18.0
So you can start as young.
10:20.0
Yeah. So parang I guess
10:23.0
ang understanding ko as a mom,
10:26.0
ang routine is more of like
10:29.0
hindi naman siya na parang
10:31.0
7 o'clock, kailangan ganito.
10:32.0
Tapos 5 o'clock, kailangan ganito.
10:34.0
It's more parang a flow of the day.
10:37.0
Alam nila kung anong susunod na mangyayari.
10:39.0
Is that correct?
10:41.0
Exactly. Kasi we're not naman
10:43.0
raising robots.
10:44.0
Hindi naman tayo nagpapalakay
10:45.0
ng mga robots, di ba?
10:47.0
Ang routine na kailangan natin
10:49.0
is i-adjust din natin sa ating mga anak
10:51.0
sya ka sa ating pamilya.
10:53.0
Kasi we also have, di ba,
10:55.0
our own tasks and all of that.
10:57.0
So we take all of those
10:58.0
into consideration.
10:59.0
But then you still set that
11:01.0
parang bastong pagkakasunod-sunod.
11:04.0
Kunwari, after feeding,
11:07.0
may bathing,
11:09.0
tapos sleeping time ng baby.
11:11.0
Then alam nila na downtime na.
11:13.0
So I heard nga, di ba, na
11:15.0
I heard you I think earlier
11:17.0
when you said na after kumain
11:19.0
aakyat na magda-downtime na.
11:21.0
So hindi na playtime pag aakyat nila.
11:23.0
So yan lang yung ibig sabihin ng routine.
11:25.0
Yung meron lang siyang pagkakasunod-sunod
11:27.0
na ginagawa nyo on a daily basis
11:30.0
sa inyong mukha.
11:32.0
So tama eh. That starts nga pag baby
11:34.0
even if technically hindi pa nila
11:36.0
naiintindihan ang ibig sabihin ng routine.
11:38.0
Habang teacher Beth, kapag medyo
11:40.0
tumanda na, medyo may
11:42.0
some sort of independence na yung mga bata
11:44.0
nakakalakad na on their own,
11:46.0
nakakagawa na ng basic things
11:48.0
on their own.
11:50.0
Should we set
11:52.0
rules for our kids
11:54.0
at paano ginagawa yun
11:56.0
sa tamang paraan?
11:58.0
Oh yes.
12:00.0
Parang the rules kasama yun eh
12:02.0
dun sa routines, di ba?
12:04.0
Kasi kunwari, you cannot go to
12:06.0
the next part of your routine
12:08.0
if hindi ka mag-pack away.
12:10.0
Kunwari, after playtime
12:12.0
may gagawin kayo yung susunod.
12:14.0
Before you go to the next one,
12:16.0
kasama sa part ng routine ang packing away.
12:18.0
So may mga rules kayo na subsundan
12:20.0
din sa bahay nyo. For example,
12:22.0
kailan lang playtime?
12:24.0
Kasi pag sleeping time, hindi. And I remember
12:26.0
dun sa video na nakita natin si Mommy Jill
12:28.0
sabi niya, when it's eating time
12:30.0
it's not playtime.
12:32.0
Parang there's always a season for everything.
12:34.0
Di ba? May tamang panahon
12:36.0
para sa lahat. So we can set rules
12:38.0
pero kailangan
12:40.0
simple rules lang
12:42.0
muna at the start. And then
12:44.0
pag very young kids kasi hindi mo pa naman sila mahihingan
12:46.0
ng what rules
12:48.0
do you want or do you think
12:50.0
are okay? Kasi di pa nga
12:52.0
nagkita yung iba, di ba?
12:54.0
But as they grow older, you can
12:56.0
ask for their opinions
12:58.0
also and their input.
13:00.0
Anong rules ba? Bakit ba
13:02.0
yung rule na yan? Why do we need to pack away?
13:04.0
Yung
13:06.0
mga ganon. But
13:08.0
routines and rules to be
13:10.0
well-established
13:12.0
kailangan well-planned din siya.
13:14.0
So hindi lang siya yung, pukin ko kaya
13:16.0
ito today, tapos bukas iba naman.
13:18.0
It has to be well-planned.
13:20.0
And everybody in the whole household
13:24.0
parang kailangan nagtutulungan kayo.
13:26.0
You know the roles of each other.
13:28.0
Tapos may sinasabi nga na
13:30.0
if I may share, four C's
13:32.0
of
13:34.0
I love this. I love these acronyms.
13:36.0
Madaling, kanina, five
13:38.0
B's and one V. Ngayon, four
13:40.0
C's. Okay, four C's.
13:42.0
Four C's for you to remember how
13:44.0
to set up your routines
13:46.0
and your rules at home. So number one,
13:48.0
you have to have first a compelling
13:50.0
idea or rationale
13:52.0
for it. Kasi kailangan,
13:54.0
may dahilan, hindi kayong
13:56.0
humugot lang ng rule. Ay, gusto ko to.
13:58.0
Medyo sadista ko. Gagawa ko ng
14:00.0
ganitong rule. Hindi siya ganon.
14:02.0
It has to come from a compelling idea
14:04.0
or a compelling
14:06.0
rationale. Kunwari,
14:08.0
pag hindi mo nilipit, masisira yung mga laroan.
14:10.0
Mawawala.
14:12.0
It has to come from that. That's one.
14:14.0
The second is you have to have clear
14:16.0
expectations. Most of the time,
14:18.0
when children misbehave or they
14:20.0
don't do something expected
14:22.0
of them, it's because
14:24.0
they didn't know
14:26.0
na yun pala yung
14:28.0
kunwari, nagpunta sa church
14:30.0
tas magulo sila sa church
14:32.0
kasi hindi pala nila alam
14:34.0
before going na kailangan
14:36.0
ito yung mga set of behaviors
14:38.0
na ine-expect. So we have to have
14:40.0
clear expectations. So compelling idea,
14:42.0
clear expectations, and then the
14:44.0
third one is consistency.
14:46.0
It has to be consistent.
14:48.0
Hindi yung pagpagod ka na,
14:50.0
hahayaan mo na. Kasi minsan ganon.
14:52.0
Pag masama ko ng pakiramdam, parang ayoko
14:54.0
na mag-follow up. Ayoko na mag
14:56.0
mag-paalala
14:58.0
kasi I'm tired or I'm sick.
15:00.0
But you have to power through.
15:02.0
Kumbaga, kasi you have to be consistent.
15:04.0
And hindi pwede iba yung rules
15:06.0
kay mommy, iba yung rules kay daddy.
15:08.0
Lalo na kay lolo at
15:10.0
kay lola. So nang tulong-tulong
15:12.0
tayong lahat, hindi pwede
15:14.0
iba-iba kasi hindi pwedeng may kaaway
15:16.0
pagdating sa rules.
15:18.0
And then the fourth is composure
15:20.0
of the parents. That's the fourth C.
15:22.0
So bakit
15:24.0
na pa?
15:26.0
Kasi
15:28.0
it's gonna be more difficult to set
15:30.0
a routine or set a rule if you
15:32.0
are always angry.
15:34.0
If nagkalit,
15:36.0
lagi kang naiinis, lagi kang
15:38.0
nagdadabog
15:40.0
or
15:42.0
nagsasabi ng hindi maganda,
15:44.0
lalong nagiging
15:46.0
negative yung dating nung routine
15:48.0
at nung rule dun sa bata.
15:50.0
So yung composure natin as a parent
15:52.0
is very vital.
15:54.0
So itong four Cs nato galing to sa isang
15:56.0
sikat na homeschooling
16:00.0
philosopher na nagaano
16:02.0
ng home education, si Charlotte Mason.
16:04.0
So yan yung apat na Cs na sinasabi niya.
16:06.0
Four Cs yung tinawag ko
16:08.0
pero yan yung apat kasi nanabasa ko
16:10.0
na sinabi niya.
16:12.0
So yung composure of the parent is very important
16:14.0
kasi malaki daw yung
16:16.0
influence ng atmosphere sa bahay.
16:18.0
Yung positive atmosphere sa
16:20.0
bahay sa pag-set ng habits
16:22.0
and routines ng mga bata.
16:24.0
Makes so much sense.
16:26.0
So compelling
16:28.0
reason, is that correct? And then clear,
16:30.0
kailangan klaro sa bata, sa lahat.
16:32.0
Consistent
16:34.0
and composure
16:36.0
for Cs.
16:38.0
O, nag-take notes ba kayo parents?
16:40.0
I love it.
16:42.0
Ang gandang reminder,
16:44.0
especially yung
16:46.0
kailangan lahat alam kasi minsan
16:48.0
as moms, parang
16:50.0
tayo ang
16:52.0
hindi naman sa default, but more
16:54.0
often than not, tayo talaga nagsaset
16:56.0
ng rules, ng
16:58.0
tempo, ng routines sa house.
17:00.0
Pero minsan, masyadong natin
17:02.0
sinasolo, hindi naman natin nasashare
17:04.0
sa iba. So you're right in that
17:06.0
dapat yung buong bahay alam
17:08.0
ang routines para
17:10.0
wala man tayo doon.
17:12.0
Alam nila yung
17:14.0
mga kailangan
17:16.0
na routines at rules for the kids.
17:18.0
In an ideal world talaga
17:20.0
kapag nagset tayo ng routines,
17:22.0
rules,
17:24.0
susunod ang lahat. Pero in real
17:26.0
life, hindi talaga nangyayari.
17:28.0
Madaming beses na
17:30.0
syempre as kids,
17:32.0
gusto lang nila gawin yung gusto
17:34.0
nilang gawin. So,
17:36.0
yeah, is there a way that we can
17:38.0
encourage kids to follow
17:40.0
our rules and routines?
17:42.0
At paano kung hindi sila
17:44.0
sumusunod?
17:46.0
What can we do?
17:48.0
Una, paano ba to
17:50.0
encourage them to follow the rules?
17:52.0
Ang number one, siguro na,
17:54.0
reminder ko is
17:56.0
from Josh McDowell when he said,
17:58.0
rules without relationship will only
18:00.0
lead to rebellion.
18:02.0
Sabihin, we need to prioritize our
18:04.0
relationship with our children.
18:06.0
That's our main, main,
18:08.0
main target. Before we set all
18:10.0
the rules in the world, we have to
18:12.0
make sure that our relationship
18:14.0
is positive and that maganda
18:16.0
yung attachment ng ating mga
18:18.0
adduct sa atin. Pag positive
18:20.0
yung relationship sa kanilang
18:22.0
primary caregiver or sa parent,
18:24.0
maganda rin ang
18:26.0
development ng brains ng mga bata.
18:28.0
Okay. Teacher Beth
18:30.0
here on Talk Ed, nagsishare talaga tayo ng
18:32.0
real life stories ng parents
18:34.0
na similar yung pinagdadaanan.
18:36.0
Let's watch this.
18:38.0
As early as now, nabibigyan na namin
18:40.0
ng chores si Sam. Although hindi pa yung
18:42.0
hardboard ng mga chores at home, pero
18:44.0
as simple as
18:46.0
him cleaning up
18:48.0
sa mga toys niya,
18:50.0
parang chore niya yun
18:52.0
as a family member
18:54.0
na naglalaro
18:56.0
at home. So, walang
18:58.0
magpa-pack away yung mga toys niya for him.
19:00.0
Siguro, tutulungan namin siya, we do it
19:02.0
together, pero
19:04.0
siya pa rin yung gagawa. So, isa yun
19:06.0
sa mga chores niya. And then,
19:08.0
ngayon, si Sam kasi
19:10.0
he wants to be very involved
19:12.0
sa kahit anong mga ginagawa.
19:14.0
And meron kaming
19:16.0
small home kitchen. It's called Jojo and Jill's
19:18.0
Home Kitchen. Nagusto niya kasama
19:20.0
daw siya. We offer food
19:22.0
to raise. Tapos, most of
19:24.0
those, favorite ni Sam.
19:26.0
Tapos, nakikisama siya
19:28.0
sa pag-prepare. Gusto niya kasing
19:30.0
mag-slice. Although, syempre medyo
19:32.0
nakakatakot pa for him to
19:34.0
handle a knife ganyan. Pero we found
19:36.0
mga child-safe
19:38.0
ng mga kitchen tools
19:40.0
na tinitry niya. So,
19:42.0
minsan nakikihate siya, o kaya
19:44.0
yung paglagay ng ingredients, ganyan.
19:46.0
O kaya magsusot siya ng pot holder.
19:48.0
Although, di naman niya ilagay sa oven.
19:50.0
Yung mere fact lang
19:52.0
na he's trying to
19:54.0
to copy yung ginagawa
19:56.0
namin. Actually, wala naman kaming
19:58.0
gusto i-push sa kanya. Kasi, syempre
20:00.0
he'll have his own choices when he goes.
20:02.0
Pero, since nakikita namin
20:04.0
interest niya. And
20:06.0
nakikita namin na kaya naman niya.
20:08.0
So, yun. Nakikisama siya.
20:10.0
So, minsan, pukuha pa siya ng
20:12.0
sarili niyang chair. Dadali niya sa kitchen.
20:14.0
Sasabihin niya sa daddy niya na,
20:16.0
Daddy, I want to cook also. Ganyan.
20:18.0
Thank you so much, Mommy Jill.
20:20.0
Si Sam ay napaka-responsible
20:22.0
na little boy. But you know what, Teacher Beth?
20:24.0
May sinabi si
20:26.0
Mommy Jill na
20:28.0
parang makakonect natin to what you said earlier.
20:30.0
Sabi niya kasi, and nakikita ko
20:32.0
din to sa mga anak ko. Minsan, sila yung
20:34.0
talagang curious. Gusto nilang
20:36.0
tumulong kasi gusto
20:38.0
nilang makisama
20:40.0
sa ginagawa natin. And you
20:42.0
mentioned this kanina kasi, modeling.
20:44.0
Like, yung
20:46.0
anak ko, alala ko dati, ang hilig-hilig
20:48.0
magwalis. Kasi nga, nakikita niya lahat ng adults
20:50.0
dito sa bahay, nagwawalis. So,
20:54.0
yeah, is there an age na
20:56.0
dapat nagsastart
20:58.0
turuan ng mga anak natin ng chores?
21:00.0
Or I guess, how can you
21:02.0
how can we incorporate chores
21:04.0
dun sa routines,
21:06.0
ating daily routines at home?
21:08.0
Yes,
21:10.0
totoo yun. Lahat ng ginagawa
21:12.0
natin, gustong-gustong gayahin ng mga
21:14.0
anak natin.
21:16.0
Sana lang nagko-continue hanggang
21:18.0
pagtandag.
21:20.0
But,
21:22.0
yeah, that's a good question.
21:24.0
Ilang taon ba talaga nagsastart?
21:26.0
Well, for me, there's
21:28.0
always something that they can do.
21:30.0
Even
21:32.0
a toddler, a baby, like
21:34.0
si Sam, I think, is two years old,
21:36.0
yung anak ni Mommy Jill. So, two years
21:38.0
old, pero nalilinis na niya yung
21:40.0
kanyang mga toys,
21:42.0
ganyan. So, you can start with very simple
21:44.0
chores, like packing away.
21:46.0
That's number one.
21:48.0
Yung packing away nga ng babies,
21:50.0
I remember, nung maliliit pa yung babies ko, or nung
21:52.0
nag-handle ako ng mga toddlers
21:54.0
sa preschool.
21:56.0
Ang packing away nila, sinushoot lang
21:58.0
naman nila talaga sa basket.
22:00.0
But that's already packing away, and that's
22:02.0
the start of it. Siyempre, hindi
22:04.0
natin ma-e-expect na gagawin nila yung
22:06.0
maglinis ng toilet,
22:08.0
medyo matanda pa yun.
22:10.0
So, you can always check out naman
22:12.0
the list of appropriate chores
22:14.0
for children per
22:16.0
year level.
22:18.0
Per age, may nakasulat na dyan ng mga
22:20.0
appropriate
22:22.0
chores na pwedeng
22:24.0
gawin. I'll talk lang,
22:26.0
I have a question lang, a bit about chores
22:28.0
and a bit about the rules, I guess
22:30.0
kanina. So,
22:32.0
on a normal day, like you said, yung
22:34.0
mga anak mo parang sanay na, hindi na kailangan
22:36.0
paalalahanan, but meron talagang
22:38.0
minsan mga days na hindi mo alam.
22:40.0
Biglang
22:42.0
ayaw mag-toothbrush,
22:44.0
or ayaw kumain, or ayaw
22:46.0
yung parang ginagawa naman nila every
22:48.0
day for years,
22:50.0
months, pero may mga araw
22:52.0
lang talaga na ayaw nila.
22:54.0
Minsan may crying pa.
22:56.0
What can we do pag gano'n,
22:58.0
teacher Beth?
23:00.0
Well, as I said
23:02.0
earlier, we need to find out why.
23:04.0
Kasi, if it's
23:06.0
because they
23:08.0
really need time, or talagang
23:10.0
hindi nila kaya gawin today,
23:12.0
dahil masama yung
23:14.0
pinagdadaanan sila,
23:16.0
or hindi okay, then we have to
23:18.0
respect that and say, okay, but you have to
23:20.0
do it later.
23:22.0
Pero gagawin pa rin niya.
23:24.0
Yun yung
23:26.0
important. Gagawin pa rin
23:28.0
niya, pero when you're ready na.
23:30.0
Kasi baka pagod lang talaga.
23:32.0
So we have to also consider
23:34.0
that.
23:36.0
They just need
23:38.0
to settle down muna,
23:40.0
but do it pa rin.
23:42.0
And then for others naman,
23:44.0
na talagang trying to test
23:46.0
your limits, kasi
23:48.0
meron din yung point na
23:50.0
susubukan ko.
23:52.0
Kasi baka makalusot ako.
23:54.0
Then, mapag pinalusot natin,
23:56.0
then gagawin na yan,
23:58.0
at gagawin ulit-ulit.
24:00.0
So kung feeling mo, kasi we know naman eh,
24:02.0
deep down inside, we as parents,
24:04.0
since we know our
24:06.0
children the most, we know
24:08.0
why kadalasan,
24:10.0
why they are doing something.
24:12.0
So minsan they just really wanna test
24:14.0
you. Then we need to be firm.
24:16.0
Encouraging,
24:18.0
but yet firm. So you're still
24:20.0
there, I'll wait for you.
24:22.0
I'll stay here, I'll help you when you're ready.
24:24.0
Pero inaanom muna,
24:26.0
gagawin pa rin natin
24:28.0
anak. Walang
24:30.0
choice. Hindi ka pa rin pwede mag-play sa
24:32.0
labas kasi hindi mo pa tinatapos yung
24:34.0
hindi mo pa nililigpit yung
24:36.0
pagkain. So hintay natin
24:38.0
yan. So, pero
24:40.0
we have to be gentle yet
24:42.0
firm. And then the kids,
24:44.0
when they see that hindi sila nakakalusot,
24:46.0
they
24:48.0
parang madaling, parang eventually
24:50.0
they get to understand na kahit
24:52.0
magwala ako dito.
24:54.0
Kung ano,
24:56.0
hindi ka naman. Tapos diba minsan nakakatulong
24:58.0
din when they see that you're just
25:00.0
there, allowing them
25:02.0
to express their emotions. Kasi legitimate
25:04.0
naman yung nararamdaman nila. When they're frustrated,
25:06.0
ayaw nila gawin,
25:08.0
kailangan lang nila ilapas.
25:10.0
But then when they settle down,
25:12.0
ready na rin pala after.
25:14.0
So it just needs so much patience
25:16.0
on our part.
25:18.0
And I feel
25:20.0
all of you, kasi hanggang ngayon nararamdaman
25:22.0
ko pa rin yan. Yung parang
25:24.0
kulang pa rin yung patience ko.
25:26.0
But we just have to
25:28.0
just push through
25:30.0
with it. We need to commit
25:32.0
to our kids
25:34.0
naman. It's for their benefiting.
25:36.0
At the end of the day, we're doing
25:38.0
this for them. Kasi
25:40.0
if we end up doing everything
25:42.0
for them, we are
25:44.0
providing them a
25:46.0
disservice instead of
25:48.0
for the future.
25:50.0
Parang magsasuffer pa sila
25:52.0
lalo if we don't help them and prepare
25:54.0
them by teaching them chores
25:56.0
early on. Kasi dati
25:58.0
naman, they still need to do it.
26:00.0
And you won't be there when you need to help them.
26:02.0
So it's something
26:04.0
that they need to do. And then you can
26:06.0
pair it with something that they enjoy.
26:08.0
Kunwari, pag mahilig
26:10.0
sa kanta yung anak mo, then you can
26:12.0
blast the music while you're
26:14.0
packing away and dance
26:16.0
together while doing it.
26:18.0
So pair it with something that they enjoy
26:20.0
and then celebrate the small
26:22.0
the small changes.
26:24.0
Yung pag may ginawa sila na hindi mo
26:26.0
na parang
26:28.0
first time nila ginawa na hindi ka nag-alala.
26:30.0
Parang
26:32.0
say thank you talaga.
26:34.0
Parang
26:36.0
thank you for doing that.
26:38.0
You helped mom so much just by doing that.
26:40.0
So they get to see
26:42.0
yun pala yung epekto
26:44.0
when I do something.
26:46.0
So always be encouraging. Hindi yung
26:48.0
pag may ginawa sila, pinapalitan
26:50.0
natin. Kasi sa totoo lang, minsan like
26:52.0
when they mop, mas dumudume.
26:58.0
Pag nagwawalis sila, parang mas kumakalat
27:00.0
and everything.
27:02.0
What we want is their
27:04.0
attitude of helping.
27:06.0
So don't
27:08.0
nip that. Hindi yun yung dapat
27:10.0
inaano natin. Just encourage them to do it. Kahit
27:12.0
baliktad yung pagkakasuot ng damit nila.
27:14.0
Ganun talaga eh.
27:16.0
They're still learning. So just allow
27:18.0
them and then if wala
27:20.0
na sila, then sakamulinisin ulit yung
27:22.0
bahay if kailangan.
27:24.0
Just be encouraging and power
27:26.0
through it even when
27:28.0
and through the
27:30.0
difficult behaviors.
27:32.0
While you're talking teacher Beth,
27:34.0
nod lang ako ng nod kasi
27:36.0
parang nararamdaman ko talaga yung
27:38.0
20 years of experience as a
27:40.0
as an educator and being
27:42.0
a mom of two. A teen
27:44.0
and a tween.
27:46.0
All your examples are so
27:48.0
spot on and parang
27:50.0
lived experience talaga.
27:52.0
So ako personally, I'll
27:54.0
most likely rewatch this episode
27:56.0
para mas manamnam ko talaga
27:58.0
everything that you said and of course
28:00.0
sa lahat ng parents na nanunood dito
28:02.0
ngayon. Sobrang dami kong natutunan
28:04.0
from you, teacher
28:06.0
Beth. Maraming maraming salamat.
28:08.0
Yeah, routines,
28:10.0
rules, sense of responsibility.
28:12.0
I love what you said na
28:14.0
sa totoo lang, it's preparing
28:16.0
them eh for
28:18.0
the future. Na parang
28:20.0
kumbaga kung hindi nilang matutunan
28:22.0
tong mga ito ngayon, mas mahihirapan
28:24.0
sila in the future.
28:26.0
Age appropriateness
28:28.0
ng chores, ng routines, natutunan
28:30.0
din natin from teacher Beth.
28:32.0
And with that, we would like to thank you
28:34.0
so much, our talk and expert
28:36.0
of the day, teacher Elizabeth King
28:38.0
Santos. Thank you for sharing your
28:40.0
expertise, your very
28:42.0
specific examples.
28:44.0
I would love to ask for any
28:46.0
final words you have for all
28:48.0
our parents trying to establish
28:50.0
these routines at home
28:52.0
and yeah, would you like to promote
28:54.0
anything to everyone watching now?
28:56.0
Oh no, thank you
28:58.0
Bianca for having me
29:00.0
here. It's a joy to always
29:02.0
share but don't get me
29:04.0
wrong, I'm not
29:06.0
the perfect mom, I'm not an expert
29:08.0
mom. Actually, I'm still
29:10.0
learning so it's really a learning
29:12.0
it's a learning journey
29:14.0
all throughout
29:16.0
and it's not easy. I know moms
29:18.0
and dads, parenting
29:20.0
can be overwhelming
29:22.0
most of the time but
29:24.0
when you really look into it
29:26.0
the joys of it
29:28.0
outweigh all those
29:30.0
pagod, lahat ng iyak natin
29:32.0
at times, nababawi
29:34.0
naman yun but always remember
29:36.0
that you as parents, you
29:38.0
are the best teacher of your children.
29:40.0
Your home environment should
29:42.0
be the safe space for your children
29:44.0
nagugustuhin nila laging
29:46.0
umuwi because
29:48.0
you are there in
29:50.0
their home. So,
29:52.0
even if you feel like
29:54.0
naghihirapan sila because of all your
29:56.0
rules and all of the things
29:58.0
the routines, the chores that
30:00.0
you give, think of why
30:02.0
you are doing it. Always go back
30:04.0
to your reason, to your
30:06.0
vision, bakit mo pa?
30:08.0
You are doing this because you love your children
30:10.0
You want
30:12.0
to help rear up
30:14.0
good citizens of the
30:16.0
future, nakarang
30:18.0
ang kanilang responsibilities
30:20.0
when they grow up. So,
30:22.0
just, it
30:24.0
gets easier. As they
30:26.0
get older, I think, I hope
30:28.0
at nating
30:30.0
yung panahon, you will
30:32.0
say that
30:34.0
na parang
30:36.0
you will know that what
30:38.0
you did was worth it.
30:40.0
All the pagod, all the iyak
30:42.0
promise mommies, and then, and daddies
30:44.0
and last but not the least
30:46.0
when all else fails, always
30:48.0
remember to pray
30:50.0
because
30:52.0
your children do not belong to you
30:54.0
They are actually the lords, and
30:56.0
he will always take care of
30:58.0
them. He will
31:00.0
fill in all of your
31:02.0
gaps. Lahat ng pagkakamali
31:04.0
natin, siya ang bahala
31:06.0
to take care of your children
31:08.0
because he loves them
31:10.0
more than we can ever love them
31:12.0
So, yun lang
31:14.0
And I hope you enjoyed this session
31:16.0
also as much as I did
31:18.0
Aww, thank you so much
31:20.0
Teacher Beth. Such a beautiful, beautiful
31:22.0
reminder sa lahat ng parents. May
31:24.0
mga a-tear fell yata na
31:26.0
nanonood ngayon. Thank you so much
31:28.0
Teacher Beth for joining us
31:30.0
and for all the super mega
31:32.0
valuable advice that
31:34.0
you shared with us. Imagine free resource
31:36.0
tong TalkEd. Natutuwa ako kasi usually
31:38.0
di ba, you have to pay for these parenting
31:40.0
seminars, pero dito sa Knowledge Channel
31:42.0
sa TalkEd, our experts
31:44.0
graciously lend their time
31:46.0
and wisdom to us. Maraming salamat
31:48.0
Teacher Beth. Thank you
31:50.0
Alright, sa lahat ng ating mga
31:52.0
mommies and daddies, a bit of a recap
31:54.0
and a few learnings lang that we'd like to share
31:56.0
here
31:58.0
from TalkEd, our expert
32:00.0
tips. Tip number one is to create a
32:02.0
balanced routine
32:04.0
right? Pwede siyang
32:06.0
mixture ng mas tahimik na
32:08.0
activities, ng mas loud na activities
32:10.0
mas active, mas passive, mas
32:12.0
physical, mas
32:14.0
sa brain, mas cognitive
32:16.0
So for example, pwede tayo mag
32:18.0
set ng schedule na sa umaga
32:20.0
after breakfast, school
32:22.0
work, after lunch
32:24.0
nap time naman, pagkagising
32:26.0
maybe
32:28.0
homework habang nagmi-merienda
32:30.0
ng paborito natin of course. Siyempre para
32:32.0
may energy din for playtime after
32:34.0
school work. Tapos siyempre
32:36.0
siguro bath time, dinner,
32:38.0
bed time. So whatever flow
32:40.0
works for you
32:42.0
yan na ilan lang sa ating mga suggestions
32:44.0
Second, nagbigay ng 4C
32:46.0
si Teacher Beth pero isa sa mga
32:48.0
pinaka-key I guess talaga is yung
32:50.0
C for consistency
32:52.0
diba? Dapat consistent, whether dun sa
32:54.0
pag follow ng routine
32:56.0
follow ng rules, consistent
32:58.0
lahat ng tao sa bahay
33:00.0
kayong mag-asaw, mag-partner with lolo
33:02.0
lola, nako, crucial din yun
33:04.0
dapat sinusunod natin
33:06.0
kung ano yung napag-usapan natin
33:08.0
with our kids
33:10.0
and the third tip
33:12.0
and this one I loved what Teacher Beth said
33:14.0
yung mga visual reminders, sabi niya
33:16.0
charts or like pictures
33:18.0
na merong checklists
33:20.0
helpful for tactile
33:22.0
and visual learners ang paggawa ng ating
33:24.0
mga routine charts or rule charts
33:26.0
short charts, sa amin meron din kami
33:28.0
parang sticker kapag nagagawa
33:30.0
nila, they'll put a sticker on their chart
33:32.0
tulad ng sa aming
33:34.0
may sense of ownership
33:36.0
may sense na parang uy
33:38.0
nagawa ko to, may gano'n
33:40.0
dahil syempre kasama sila sa decision making process
33:42.0
kasama sila sa
33:44.0
kumbaga sistema
33:46.0
sa bahay
33:48.0
you can even gamify it, how it looks
33:50.0
para ma-encourage sila how to
33:52.0
follow through, for example
33:54.0
kitchen, one of their tasks could be
33:56.0
learning to identify the ingredients
33:58.0
yan, based on smell and taste
34:00.0
for mga older kids na to, siguro mga
34:02.0
six or seven, ganyan
34:04.0
maraming maraming salamat
34:06.0
sa lahat ng mga sumama sa ating kwentuhan
34:08.0
ngayong araw, I am your host
34:10.0
Bianca Gonzalez and we'll see you again
34:12.0
in our next talk-in
34:14.0
Goodnight!
