Did you really feel a sense of fulfillment and relief after changing your career path?
00:05.0
Yes.
00:06.0
A part of me was reborn again.
00:09.0
And getting paid to do what you love is a luxury that not a lot of us can do.
00:19.0
Hey guys, Allison here.
00:20.0
Before we start this video, I just wanted to tell you about our newest partner, Studio Persona.
00:26.0
Studio Persona is a self-shoot studio located at Maginhawa Street, Quezon City.
00:31.0
What I love about this studio is that you can completely be yourself together with your loved ones and just capture your moments together.

They provide a space that's completely yours to create.

All you have to do is book a slot through their website, choose a package, and start having fun.

01:04.0
Now let's get back to the video.
01:10.0
Hi, I'm Nico Rocha.
01:11.0
Hi, my name is Bea.
01:13.0
Hi, my name is Patria Moquillo and I'm a makeup artist.
01:16.0
I was working in corporate for about 8 years now.
01:19.0
And then last month, I decided to quit.
01:22.0
I started as a IT project manager 7 years ago, 2016, which means just basically doing coding.
01:29.0
Now, in my current work now, I'm now a sports broadcaster.
01:32.0
Basically, pag sports broadcaster, you're the anchor play-by-play for the games.
01:36.0
So, for example, in a UAAP game, ako yung nagsasabi na Key for a Venom for free, ganoon, mga ganoon.
01:42.0
Theater really is my passion. I would say it's something that I can do even with my eyes closed.
01:46.0
Then eventually, I had to go abroad and work for a factory.
01:50.0
After that, when I got back, I became a call center agent.
01:53.0
For the same company, I became a trainer then in recruitment.
01:56.0
So, maraming shit.
01:57.0
I studied business in college.
01:59.0
So, automatically, where do you go after that, right?
02:03.0
It's either you go into corporate and then start your own business.
02:06.0
I thought that it would be the most practical way to, of course, earn money and gain experience.
02:13.0
I've changed in terms of, I guess, my priority now.
02:18.0
Like right now, I'm prioritizing, at this point, would be my financial stability.
02:22.0
Medyo leap of faith for me kasi hindi siya stable like having a day job.
02:27.0
Ayun, I'm still grinding up to now.
02:29.0
I know na this is the right path for me despite it being so unstable in terms of not knowing when the next paycheck would come.
02:37.0
But I like how I have to work.
02:39.0
If I don't work, I don't get anything.
02:41.0
Hi, I'm Jaboy and I am 20 years old and I am a second year struggling, suffering nursing student.
02:48.0
I am here because I'm thinking about pursuing med school in the future.
02:52.0
However, may doubt sa akin, may doubt sa otak ko na baka hindi para sa akin ito.
02:56.0
What were your thought process before deciding na hindi ko na gustong ginagawa ko?
03:02.0
Or when you feel na hindi na talaga ito ang path niyo?
03:05.0
I got burnt out.
03:06.0
I thought that the friends I made at work would be enough to make up for just the daily grind of going to work.
03:13.0
I always weigh things if it's still gonna be good for my mental health legitimately because it can be really toxic.
03:19.0
Kasi parang napromote ako sa work pero I thought na okay, promotion means more money, more money makes you want to stay, right?
03:25.0
Pero hindi. For me, napromote nga but dumami rin yung trabaho.
03:29.0
I think yun yung pinakanaging deciding factor for me.
03:32.0
Hindi na ako masaya sa ginagawa ko.
03:35.0
But when I talk to my friends in the same line of work, for them, they really feel fulfilled.
03:39.0
They feel like this is the one for them.
03:41.0
So hindi ako makirelate dun sa love nila for the things that we're doing.
03:44.0
So the thought process were like, if my heart's not in it, hindi ko na gagawin.
03:48.0
So I weigh in things like if I continue doing this for the next year, will I gain more than I will lose?
03:56.0
Ba't sa kanya kasi, he's a second year nursing, diba? So completely different.
04:01.0
Prioritize first. Think of like a backup plan before shifting into a different career altogether.
04:07.0
Kasi pag sa medical field, dapat parang simula pa lang, alam mo na, if your heart's in it.
04:12.0
Pero pag ganyan, I think that's a sign for him, the passion to serve.
04:16.0
Hindi siya completely all in. He might have a different path na he has yet to discover.
04:20.0
Or meron na siguro on the side that we don't know about.
04:26.0
Is it worth it? Oh!
04:28.0
My self-esteem was deeply damaged after I had given up acting altogether.
04:33.0
Because I was really set to have that clear path after taking up theater.
04:37.0
And I did a couple of films in between, but nothing that has evolved into something.
04:42.0
Because it was kind of short-lived.
04:43.0
So I had to sacrifice the monthly salary, the benefits, lahat.
04:47.0
Hindi mo iisipin sa mapupulutin yung pera.
04:49.0
But I had to give up what I knew I can do and what I really was passionate about.
04:54.0
To really be financially independent.
04:56.0
It's worth it for me kasi I'm now able to hang out with different people.
05:01.0
Yung wife ko, nakakasama ko siya after work.
05:03.0
May energy ako to actually do things with her.
05:06.0
I'm at peace, internally.
05:07.0
Yun yung the best way to describe it. I'm at peace.
05:10.0
Nakakatulog na ako ng maigi. Nawawala na yung mga anxiety ko and everything.
05:13.0
Compared to when I was working in my past job.
05:16.0
Also if I took that route, you know how stereotypically artists would strive
05:20.0
before they get to a certain comfortable position.
05:23.0
So I have every 15-30 cut-off.
05:25.0
At least I'm set and safe. On that area at least.
05:28.0
How did you handle the pressure from your environment?
05:31.0
For sure, maingay. Maraming bumubulong na kesyo.
05:33.0
Sayang naman na nasimulan mo. How?
05:36.0
I think it was a lot of working through my fear of uncertainty.
05:41.0
And fear of being left behind by my peers.
05:45.0
Parang saking naman yung inaaral mo.
05:46.0
Saking naman yung nilagay ng parents mo na pera dun sa education mo.
05:50.0
So I'm sure ma-re-receive niyo yun at the start.
05:53.0
When I see people that I kinda were working with at that time
05:57.0
and see their career really go far.
05:59.0
Because they kept at it, diba? And I couldn't.
06:01.0
I became very recluse.
06:03.0
Like I isolated myself away from film people for a while,
06:07.0
theater people for a while.
06:09.0
So you have to really just tell yourself na you're on your own journey.
06:13.0
You reassess with yourself that are you really sure you're all in here?
06:17.0
Would you do the necessary steps to get to the end goal?
06:20.0
Hindi naman pwede sabihin kasi na lipat ka lang ng career.
06:23.0
Just because it's fun eh. Dapat may end goal kayo.
06:26.0
It was really kinda detrimental to my self-esteem
06:29.0
having to shut myself away from that,
06:32.0
knowing that's kinda what I have been dreaming of since I was a kid.
06:36.0
Sometimes life would sort of redirect you to something else
06:40.0
but it doesn't mean that you're lost coz of that.
06:42.0
You just have to find the path towards what's meant for you, I guess.
06:47.0
Kim Huevos, was it hard starting all over again?
06:50.0
Well, right now, since it's a very recent thing,
06:54.0
I can't feel the difficulty yet.
06:57.0
Kasi everyone has been so supportive of me.
07:01.0
They've been referring me to friends and other family members
07:05.0
to get me for gigs.
07:06.0
Kasi when I got to the call center industry,
07:09.0
when I was an agent, I was told na parang
07:11.0
added end job yan, yun ka na forever.
07:14.0
In my mind, parang you know what, things.
07:16.0
I was like, you know what, I'm gonna prove these people wrong
07:18.0
that there's like direction towards this.
07:20.0
So that's why I became like a recruiter, then a trainer.
07:23.0
In the field that I chose, broadcasting and sports broadcasting,
07:27.0
ang una ko ginawa is like,
07:28.0
who can teach me to get the skills that I wanted to acquire?
07:31.0
So I searched through Facebook, ganyan-ganyan,
07:34.0
meron bang workshop and everything.
07:37.0
Thankfully, noong time na yun,
07:38.0
may workshop na mangyayari two weeks after I quit.
07:41.0
Right now yun, okay pa siya.
07:43.0
But I know it's gonna be difficult when I won't get as much gigs
07:47.0
or the uncertainty of it all na you don't know
07:49.0
what's gonna happen in the next few weeks.
07:52.0
It's really hard like starting over na.
07:54.0
Pero mahirap siya pero mahal ko kasi.
07:56.0
Sabi ko sa sarili ko, how do I, ano,
07:58.0
how do I keep my face at least in the minds of people
08:00.0
or at least ma-recognize ako by someone out there na relevant sa industry.
08:04.0
It's hard but if it's worth it, di mo mararamdaman na yung pagod
08:07.0
kasi it's fulfilling at the end of the day.
08:10.0
Were you able to find a job quickly after you changed your career path?
08:14.0
Because you know in the Philippines, it's so hard to find a job.
08:18.0
Yes, actually.
08:19.0
Because I already knew call center was really accessible to anybody
08:25.0
provided that you have the communication skills.
08:27.0
Honestly, I was one of those people who kinda thought it was the last resort.
08:30.0
Parang okay, push comes to shove, ito na lang.
08:33.0
I set up myself to be in that situation.
08:35.0
If you don't equip yourself with the right skills,
08:37.0
with the right preparation,
08:39.0
eh di kahit ma-offeran ka ng trabaho in a very fickle industry,
08:44.0
papakawalan ka rin nagad.
08:45.0
To get the job call, you prepare, you do the necessary stuff
08:49.0
in order to get that call.
08:51.0
And then the hardest part is staying.
08:53.0
There will always be people who are gonna be better than you.
08:55.0
It's something that you have to realize from the start
08:57.0
na hindi ikaw yung the best.
08:58.0
I had two rejections prior to actually getting to a center
09:01.0
like with zero experience.
09:03.0
So, it was challenging.
09:05.0
Connections, like connecting with people is very underrated.
09:08.0
Aside from skills, ano yung skills mo if you don't interact with people?
09:12.0
You have to become an extrovert.
09:13.0
I was an introvert IT guy, very typical one.
09:16.0
It's great if you're already a extrovert or really amazing
09:20.0
with interacting with different people.
09:22.0
But for most, just like me, I started off as a introvert.
09:26.0
It's a skill that you have to obtain or learn.
09:29.0
Did you really feel a sense of fulfillment and relief
09:32.0
after changing your career path?
09:34.0
Yes.
09:35.0
You know, like the whole shift between me as a recruiter
09:38.0
and as a trainer, I was so lucky to have that opportunity
09:41.0
because as a recruiter, you get to see the first application ni candidate
09:46.0
and then endorse them to training.
09:48.0
So, I got to be a trainer also.
09:49.0
So, it's kinda like a really good continuity of seeing how the journey is.
09:53.0
It was a weight off my shoulder.
09:55.0
I was really burnt out on my previous job.
09:58.0
And now that I have my own time and I'm able to express myself more creatively.
10:05.0
I knew from there that this is what I want to do.
10:09.0
I want to be in sports media in one way or another.
10:11.0
A part of me was reborn again.
10:14.0
My repressed childhood creative self is back in the pictures.
10:19.0
And getting paid to do what you love is a luxury that not a lot of us can do.
10:24.0
But also just how fulfilling it is.
10:26.0
Seeing someone's life literally change in front of you.
10:29.0
I've had candidates that I've talked to.
10:31.0
They were really struggling financially.
10:33.0
Then after I've given them the job offer,
10:35.0
I get calls or texts like,
10:36.0
Ms. Bea, salamat, you changed my life.
10:39.0
That I think is what's super fulfilling with the track I'm in right now.
10:43.0
It's having to be that person to change someone's life,
10:46.0
intentional or unintentionally.
10:48.0
So, yeah.
10:49.0
If you'll be given a chance to choose again,
10:51.0
will you change your decision or will you still choose your path today?
10:54.0
Oh, my God.
10:55.0
If ever my boss sees this,
10:57.0
I'm just kidding.
10:58.0
I think no regrets with what I did because it brought me to now.
11:04.0
I will still choose my path today.
11:06.0
At least for those seven years,
11:08.0
I earned the money to do the things I want right now.
11:12.0
In sports media, it's hard.
11:14.0
You don't have much money at the first year.
11:16.0
Unless you have projects right away.
11:18.0
From working in corporate,
11:19.0
you get a lot of criticism.
11:21.0
You get to learn a lot of skills as well that I'm using now.
11:24.0
You get thick-skinned.
11:25.0
If I started at 21 years old,
11:27.0
and I get criticized,
11:29.0
I might feel like I might give up too early.
11:31.0
Because I feel like at that age,
11:34.0
I didn't have the skills yet to be where I am right now.
11:37.0
Because I have a lot of what-ifs now.
11:39.0
And that's what's killing me.
11:40.0
What if I didn't leave?
11:42.0
What if I didn't listen to my parents and went to Canada?
11:45.0
What if I still tried to push it?
11:47.0
I don't hate what I'm doing now,
11:48.0
but if there's one thing that I regret,
11:50.0
it's that I didn't fight for it as much as I would have wanted to.
11:54.0
I learned a lot from corporate.
11:55.0
It doesn't mean I didn't learn anything.
11:57.0
I just don't love it.
12:00.0
For those probably who are still within that fork in the road,
12:04.0
I'd totally advise to stick by it.
12:07.0
You're eventually gonna feel it when you have to pull out at one point.
12:11.0
You have to be practical now.
12:12.0
But if the means is still there,
12:14.0
the fire is still there,
12:15.0
and it's just exterior factors trying to stop you from doing what you want,
12:18.0
don't listen, cancel out the noise,
12:20.0
then you don't have to live life having what-ifs.
12:23.0
I don't think it's ever too late to do anything.
12:26.0
There will be a lot of new emotions coming in
12:30.0
and new experiences then.
12:32.0
So you have to be open to that.
12:33.0
Actually, it doesn't matter if you're 30, 40, 50,
12:36.0
as long as you equip yourself with the proper skills,
12:40.0
the right people, the right mentors, the right community.
12:44.0
So what I do is I have content on TikTok, YouTube,
12:47.0
in order to improve myself every day,
12:50.0
get used to the camera.
12:51.0
Because before, I was so scared of the camera.
12:53.0
I used to stare at it.
12:54.0
I don't know what to say.
12:55.0
Everything shuts off before.
12:56.0
But now, because of that,
12:57.0
I'm getting used to having a camera on my face,
13:00.0
talking to people who are way above me in terms of status.
13:03.0
That's how I convince myself that this is for me.
13:05.0
There's never an age limit to becoming who you want to be.
13:09.0
May that be a recruiter, may that be an actor.
13:12.0
It's never too late for any changes.
13:15.0
Aralan niyo ano yung need niyo.
13:17.0
May it be medicine or whatever, diba?
13:19.0
You really have to believe then in what you can do
13:21.0
and believe in yourself na kaya mo yan whatever happens.
13:25.0
I think it's a case-to-case basis talaga.
13:27.0
Some people, let's say, has more of the bandwidth
13:29.0
to sort of do one thing and then a side hustle
13:32.0
because, let's say, he or she is just living for himself.
13:35.0
Be realistic because you just can't change career paths
13:38.0
just because your heart tells you to change.
13:40.0
You have to assess a lot of things, right?
13:42.0
Because the bills will always come.
13:44.0
Let's say, somebody else is depending on you.
13:46.0
I think the financial side of it would be the priority.
13:49.0
Kasi diba, I mentioned a while ago na any age,
13:51.0
you can change career paths.
13:52.0
But in different age range, iba-iba na yung pinagladaanan natin.
13:55.0
So, for 20s, do you have capital?
13:57.0
Do you have the money to sustain that kind of living that you want?
14:00.0
30s, how about your family? Are they okay with it?
14:02.0
In the end, it's more of you be realistic with what you want to do.
14:05.0
And once you assess na, okay, kaya ko na mag-change career path,
14:08.0
only then you equip yourself with the right skills.
14:11.0
It will get better.
14:12.0
You know, like, you have to take your time
14:14.0
to really process letting go of one thing
14:16.0
and then getting into another thing.
14:18.0
But ultimately, at least for me,
14:20.0
once I have fully accepted, really,
14:22.0
and just enjoyed what's in front of me
14:24.0
and not really looked back so much at the past,
14:27.0
it became so much easier for me to accept.
14:29.0
One last piece of advice,
14:31.0
it would be to have faith in yourself.
14:34.0
Whatever it is that's gonna come your way, you'll be okay.
14:37.0
You really just have to believe that.
14:39.0
And you will be.
14:41.0
You can fail, you can succeed,
14:43.0
but at the end of the day, you'll be okay.
