One of the challenges namin for this house was

we wanted to achieve this sort of understated elegance

na kahit hindi ganun kahay and yung materials na ginamit namin,

the house would still look very classy.

And maluwang ito even though yung interior floor area niya is just 78 square meters.

I know it seems pretty small pero magugulat kayo, my dudes.

Pag pinakita ko na yung loob nito, it feels much larger.

So dito sa labas, we decided to go with this minimalist zen aesthetic

combining complementary materials together tulad ng wood, concrete, white paint, and black steel.

We were trying to go for this contemporary na Japanese look

and I think we pretty much...

pretty much nailed it, my dudes.

So pag pupipili kami ng materials na ilalagay sa labas ng bahay,

one rule of thumb that I personally use

para hindi confusing or cluttered tignan yung exterior design ng bahay

is the 60-30-10 rule.

So kung titignan natin dito sa labas,

60% is the main color, in our case, white or anything close to white

like our concrete wall dito sa bandang entrance.

Then yung 30% naman ay ang ating secondary color or material

which is wood.

Then kung tama yung math ko,

yung 10% ay yung para sa ating accent color, in our case,

yun yung black na ginamit natin dito sa ating roof eaves,

sa window canopies, and dito sa ating mga awnings.

So itong 60-30-10 rule is a cinema color technique

na inadapt ko lang sa architecture.

To be honest, I think it worked out pretty well, my dudes.

With that being said,

especially pag kinombine sya

with this polished concrete floor

So, maganda sila tignan together

coz they are both natural-looking elements

Now, magmula sa ating sala

makikita na natin ang ating kitchen

which we decided na semi-single wall L kitchen layout sya

which is perfect for small dwellings

kasi maluwang sya tignan

so walang naka-obstruct ng mga countertops

although, one downside nito ay

pag marami kayong nagluluto

medyo mahirap kasi magkakabanggaan kayo

Anyway, as for the materials dito

we went with the 60-30-10 rule ulit

So, 60 ay white or light materials

like our quartz countertop

white base cabinet

white wall paint

and yung stainless steel na ref and accessories

Then, 30% naman ay ating birch wood cupboards

Then, lastly, 10% ay ang ating black cabinet pullers

and some certain black accents sa ating mga appliances

Pag tinignan natin sa taas ng ating cupboards ay

meron tayong clerestory windows

that provide natural light and ventilation dito sa ating kitchen area

Now, sa harap ng ating kitchen

dyan natin mahanapan ang ating dining area

na may katabing pocket sliding doors

which will then lead us to our backyard patio

So, by opening these pocket doors

magiging parte ng interior space

itong ating patio

and mas magiging maluwang yung feeling nitong bahay natin

from the inside

So, kung titignan natin itong ating patio ay naka-elevate sya

along with our house

which is naka-stilt

So, this is good both for anti-bahak

lalo na dito sa Philippines na madalas umuulan

Now, one of the common problems ng mga bahay dito sa Pilipinas

na lagi rin tinatanong sa akin ay

yung nagli-leak na mga roofs

So, sa bahay na ito ang ginawa na lang namin ay dos aguas sya

or gable yung roof

and inalis na rin namin yung gutter

So, essentially, yung mga posibleng panggalingan ng leak

ay yung dugtungan na lang sa ating roof ridge

and sa overlaps ng ating mga roofing sheets

Going back inside, sa tabi ng ating dining area

may kita natin mayroon tayong pocket door dyan

which when we open may kita na natin ang ating laundry cubby

which nilocate natin sa ating dining area

namin malapit dito sa ating backyard

na may built-in seats slash storage ulit tayo dyan

kung saan pwede kayo magbasa ng libro, work on your laptop habang nagre-relax

Then, if we walk further, makikita na natin ang ating workspace proper

kung saan may desk tayo facing a window overlooking yung harapan ng ating bahay

So, we made sure na itong office area has lots of natural light and ventilation

So, the more well-lit and comfortable ang isang lugar, mas matagal ka makakapagtrabaho doon

Behind our desk, meron tayong storage slash worktop combos

Para kung couple yung titira dito, they can work together

And kung meron silang anak, pwede yung mga bata dito sa bandang family area

Diyan sila mag-online class or you know, diyan lang sila tumambay

So, the family works together is with each other

Just aside my dudes, ito yung favorite na area ko dito sa ating small house

Kasi pag tinignan natin beyond these half walls, meron tayong open below

Looking over our dining area and our kitchen area

So, ito yung nagbibigay ng maluwang and maaliwalas na feeling sa bahay na ito

Not to mention, this promotes passive cooling para hindi ganun kagastos sa aircon dito sa umaga

Also, I really love the ceiling material na ginamit namin for this

Which is again, a light wood material

Goes really well with our white walls

And bagay na bagay siya dito sa ating twin gimbal downlights

Anyway, let us move on sa second floor bedroom natin

Which is directly across our loft work area

So, pagpasok natin dyan, may kita natin na meron tayong built-in double deck

To take advantage of the high ceiling dito sa kwarto na ito

And para ma-maximize na rin yung space

So, one thing I really like dito sa ating double deck situation ay ginawa naming closet or storage option

Itong ating stairs na pakit sa ating top bunk

So, again, space saving

So, all in all, yung Japanese vibe nitong bahay carried over magmula sa exterior design

All the way through sa interior spaces

And I think, isa yun sa important parts ng pagdidesign ng small houses or any house in general

Is pumili ka ng isang simple na style and stick with it inside and outside also

You can never go wrong with white and wood combinations

And throw a little splash of raw concrete
