00:47.7
Ay, may mga kamets tayo from Denmark, from Sweden, from Oman,
00:53.4
obviously Canada, US,
00:55.8
Kitnang Silangan, yung ating very conyo way of putting it.
00:59.7
Yung mga kamets natin,
00:60.0
Of course, from the Middle East,
01:02.4
meron pa tayong mga kamets from Kazakhstan, Central Asia,
01:06.5
all around the world.
01:07.8
01:11.6
South Saharan Africa, across ASEAN, Japan, Korea.
01:15.7
Feeling international talaga tayo.
01:18.9
Ayan, mga kamets, itong mga inupload natin, mga videos natin,
01:23.1
pag inupload natin yan sa Spotify,
01:26.8
Ayan, dun ko nakita talaga,
01:28.8
batis sa Gibraltar.
01:30.0
Batis sa, kulang na na.
01:32.2
I think, baka meron tayong Vanatu, Marshall Islands, yan.
01:36.0
Talagang, I think, 80 countries at least, no?
01:39.0
Yung mga followers natin.
01:40.2
So, I'm extremely, extremely happy about this
01:43.3
and I'm extremely privileged na may mga kababayan tayo
01:45.8
and probably yung iba, hindi Pinoy, no?
01:48.2
01:59.6
Because, of course, alam nyo naman, pang international tayo.
02:03.5
Hindi lang pang barangay.
02:06.3
Pang international na rin.
02:08.0
Ito, ito, ito, ito, yung ating bansa.
02:09.6
By the way, pasensya kung hindi tayo naka-live kagabi.
02:12.8
02:15.5
Dito sa Pilipinas, talks natin sa Singapore, Malaysia,
02:18.8
tapos pumunta pa tayo sa Scandinavia, Greenland.
02:21.2
So, habol sa trabaho.
02:22.8
And, kaapon, grabe yung schedule natin.
02:25.1
8 AM, not 8, 7 AM pa lang.
02:27.8
Hindi ko nakalimutan.
02:29.6
Ginising tayo, bigla out of nowhere.
02:31.4
Yung subconscious natin, ginising tayo.
02:33.3
Yung pala, may talk ako.
02:34.8
So, until 10 PM last night, may mga engagements tayo.
02:38.5
So, I really needed to rest this morning.
02:40.3
Sabi ko, talaga, kailangan natin ng recovery.
02:43.1
At, yes, ito, happy and privileged to say that the season 2,
02:49.7
officially season 2 ng ating show, The View from Manila,
02:53.9
for One News TV 5, is gonna start again, I think, next week, Monday.
02:58.2
And, yeah.
02:59.6
We had to interview, among others,
03:02.2
Undersecretary for Migrant Workers Affairs,
03:04.5
Ambassador Eduardo de Vega.
03:07.1
Yan, Espanyol natin ang sabihin niya.
03:09.0
Magaling mag-Espanyol yan, si Ambassador Eduardo de Vega.
03:12.0
Maraming salamat, Ambassador.
03:13.2
Muchos gracias for joining us.
03:16.1
So, we're gonna talk about a lot of things, important things.
03:20.0
Yung mga kalagayan natin, mga kababayan.
03:21.7
03:38.4
Of course, kaya yung interview din natin,
03:39.8
Undersecretary and Spokesman for the National Security Council of the Philippines,
03:44.5
Jonathan Malaya.
03:45.5
Of course, someone who has been working in multiple administrations.
03:48.3
You may have seen my interviews with him on my different platforms.
03:51.5
But, this is gonna be more serious, but more direct.
03:54.3
And, it's one-on-one.
03:55.7
And, we're gonna talk about many important things.
03:58.1
West Philippine Sea.
03:59.4
Philippine Shoal.
04:00.0
Ano yung plano ng Marcos administration to deal with China.
04:02.9
Ano yung future ng Philippine-Japan relations.
04:06.0
Philippine-US relations.
04:07.2
Pinag-usapan din namin, or pag-usapan din namin yung communist insurgency.
04:11.8
Bangsamoro.
04:12.7
Marami tayong pag-usapan.
04:13.7
So, please stay tuned dun sa ating mga other platforms and engagements.
04:20.1
Now, of course, medyo mas serious type tayo.
04:22.5
If you wanna see my more scholarly, serious, journalistic side, yan.
04:26.1
Panoorin nyo yung mga shows natin on television.
04:28.1
Although, cable news ito.
04:29.4
But, here. Vlogs ito.
04:32.0
So, please lang.
04:32.8
04:36.1
And, it's all, come on guys.
04:37.3
You know, give me, cut me some slack.
04:38.9
You know, I'm almost 100%, 200% serious when we're on CNBC, CNN, BBC, whatever.
04:45.9
Or, on my own television shows.
04:47.8
But, dito sa vlog, we wanna approach things a bit differently.
04:50.9
A little bit add some humor, make things more interesting.
04:53.5
Now, if you're not into the humor, at least wait for the analysis.
04:56.1
And, if you're not into watching me, at least bother to watch.
04:59.4
And, to read some of our articles.
05:00.8
As I said, you know, I try my best to write meaningful, quality works.
05:07.3
Because, after all, yung in-occupy pa natin dyan na space, yung space na in-occupy po natin dyan sa...
05:15.3
Ay, itong mga mga ito.
05:20.3
Nakakoneg dyan.
05:22.3
Kasi, ito, itong mga kameta.
05:25.3
Ay.
05:27.3
Ito, ito kasi mga kameta.
05:29.4
And, of course, the space I occupy in the Philippine Daily Inquirer is an extremely, you know, precious space.
05:35.6
This is where the constellation of words and, you know, beautifully, courageously crafted works by Condada de Quiroz
05:42.7
used to be, you know, used to be there in that space.
05:45.9
So, I wanna make sure I dignify it.
05:47.8
And then, of course, you're free to read yung mga articles natin for publications all around the world.
05:52.7
You know, Nikkei Asia in Japan, you know, The National and United Arab Emirates, Asia Times in Hong Kong,
05:58.6
South China Morning Post in Hong Kong.
06:00.2
Of course, you can check also my pieces for the New York Times, obviously in New York, for Foreign Affairs in New York, among others.
06:07.6
So, you know, it's not easy to find my works.
06:09.7
There are probably 2,000, 3,000 articles out there.
06:12.1
I've lost count of how many pieces we have written.
06:13.9
And, of course, some of you bothered to, you know, to go and even, you know, buy our books, no?
06:18.8
So, yun lang.
06:20.8
You know, I'm doing something different here, I hope, no?
06:24.1
I don't think there are many people out there who do this mainstream, cutting-edge, high-quality work.
06:28.5
High-quality journalism and academic work and, at the same time, are doing humorous, semi-humorous, a little bit relaxed, informal vlogs.
06:36.5
This is what I believe is gonna be my legacy, no?
06:39.5
So, I probably am not, I didn't do it as best as I can, but this is my legacy, right?
06:44.5
If there's one thing I'm gonna be proud about is that we try the different approach to things, no?
06:50.5
And, of course, I'm very encouraged by ancient thinkers like Socrates who said that you have to seduce people into truth, right?
06:56.5
You have to use all sorts of different techniques.
06:58.5
You know, humor, you know, art, so on and so forth, so that people appreciate critical thinking.
07:05.5
So, yun po yung tradition na ginagawa natin.
07:08.5
Now, going back to this, of course, proud din tayo kasi marami tayong followers from not only different countries around the world,
07:14.5
but from different political factions in the country around the world.
07:18.5
May mga ka-DDS tayo, may mga ka-ex-unit team tayo, may mga ka-BBM tayo, may mga ka-PSAD dyan,
07:25.5
and, of course, yung mga kasama natin, mga ka-Camping, among other things.
07:28.5
Of course, marami sa ka-Camping galit pa yata sa akin dahil unfair daw ako sa opposition and all.
07:33.5
But, seriously, come on, guys.
07:35.5
There are many people out there that should have known better and should have made their stand clearer
07:42.5
because if you really care about the future of democracy in the Philippines,
07:45.5
you're not gonna be scared about sharing constructive criticism, even with those that will share your ideology and all.
07:50.5
So, everything I say is constructive criticism.
07:52.5
And, please, don't talk about being picon or anything like that.
07:55.5
I get bashed right and left all day, all day.
07:58.5
All years.
07:59.5
But, you know, once in a while, I have to put things into context.
08:03.5
Ay, po.
08:05.5
Damdam.
08:07.5
Andito ako sa live.
08:11.5
Okay, okay, mamaya. Anyway.
08:13.5
Ito, ito, ito, mga ka-meta. Ito, mga ka-meta.
08:15.5
Please, huwag niyong pansinin yan sa likod.
08:18.5
Once...
08:21.5
Ano ba yan? Tama na yan!
08:23.5
Okay, ito na. Last call natin ng analysis.
08:25.5
Nakakatuloy ng introduction natin.
08:27.4
Ano yan? Dalayan ng kape.
08:30.4
08:32.4
Nakameta colors tayo.
08:34.4
Itong royal purple, favorite color natin.
08:37.4
Next to Tiffany teal.
08:40.4
Yan. Let's talk about this.
08:42.4
So, today... Actually, kagabi.
08:46.4
Ito na. Mukhang the alignments or realignments.
08:49.4
Medyo yung mga kampi-kampi are becoming clear.
08:52.4
One second. Mga ka-meta, kanina pa ito.
08:55.4
Nakaka-inish na ito.
08:57.4
Yan. Okay.
08:59.4
Ay naku, itong mga tao.
09:01.4
Anyway, going back to this.
09:03.4
Eto, eto, eto, mga ka-meta.
09:06.4
Sorry, sorry talaga.
09:08.4
Wala. Ganyan talaga pag low-budget production.
09:12.4
Biglang yung Shopee nandyan. Biglang yung Grab nandyan.
09:15.4
Biglang yung si kuya pumapasok dito.
09:17.4
Si ate pumapasok dyan.
09:19.4
Anyway, let's go back to this.
09:21.4
Let's go back to this, mga ka-meta.
09:23.4
So, as I said,
09:26.3
and as I discussed with my co-host Richard or Ronaldo Llamas among others,
09:32.3
and we're looking forward to RRL with Leloy also fully soon.
09:35.3
Eto na. Mukhang officially tapos na ang UNITEAM
09:39.3
or any illusion of a UNITEAM.
09:41.3
Mukhang tapos ng usapan na yan.
09:43.3
Of course, there'll be some people who still pretend that there's a UNITEAM out there
09:46.3
because, you know, this is Philippine politics.
09:48.3
09:51.3
But, you know, de facto, tapos na yung usapan pagdating sa UNITEAM.
09:55.2
And I think the alignments ng mga kampo-kampo ay lumalabas ngayon ahead of 2025 elections.
10:01.2
Now, let's talk about this.
10:04.2
So, interestingly, one of the persons that expressed support for the increasingly isolated Duterte camp
10:12.2
is no less than a Marcos.
10:15.2
And the elder sister of the current president.
10:17.2
Of course, we're talking about Senator Aimee Marcos.
10:20.2
Now, obviously, I'm not gonna make any comments about sibling rivalry, etc.
10:24.1
Last time, I wrote a thing about it a bit in a very balanced way for Nikkei Asia.
10:29.1
Ayan, si Direk Tim Yap. Sorry, sir. Hindi Tim Yap.
10:35.1
Anong pangalan ng director na yan?
10:37.1
O basta, yung director na yan. Alam mo naman. Spokesman yan.
10:41.1
O baka mapagalitan natin. Baka makakomment na naman yung Chesser natin.
10:45.1
Mairap na. Mairap na.
10:47.1
So, I'm not gonna go into those family dynamic stuff, right?
10:50.1
Let's just... Darrel Yap. Tim Yap. Sorry about that.
10:54.1
Related ba sila? Hindi naman siguro.
10:56.1
Hindi, beshin natin yan si Tim Yap. Yung isang Yap, hindi ko alam.
10:59.1
Iba rin yung Yap na basketball, diba? Gilas si Sir ano...
11:04.1
Okay, anyway. Balikan natin ito.
11:06.1
Ayan na naman tayo. Mga Tito Boy Soto at saka Teddy Locsin.
11:11.1
Ano yun? Nagkakagulo na yung mga pangalan ulit.
11:14.1
Eto na! Eto na! Eto na. Okay, okay, okay.
11:17.1
So, I'm not gonna get into that. Baka mapasyan na naman tayo ni spokesman.
11:22.1
Ay, spokeswoman. Whatever.
11:24.1
Let's talk about just the politics about it, no?
11:26.1
So, eto talaga. May statement si senator and presidential sister na she's gonna stick with the Duterte's true thick and thin.
11:37.1
Ah, diba? In fairness talaga, no?
11:40.1
Ano talagang made in Malacanang level tong drama neto, ah.
11:45.1
Ay, ay, ay, ay. Eto na talaga. Please, hintayin niya ako. Ang daming tumatawag eh. One second ah.
11:52.1
Once again.
11:54.1
12:05.1
Kupunin ko. Sorry, may ginagawa ko ngayon. Paket na lang mamaya. Salamat. Thank you.
12:11.1
Ayan na naman tong si Kuya Grabo. Iman lang tayo. Yan talagang problema. Biglang kakasabay-sabay yung mga delivery ng shop.
12:23.0
Huw! Nasira yung train of thought natin ah. Hindi naman. I know what I'm talking about. Ah, nawala yung kape.
12:29.0
Anyway, let's get back to this mga kamets.
12:34.0
Nakaka-stress naman tong mga to. Kuya naman. Kuya naman.
12:39.0
Ay, ay, ay, ay. James Yap. James Yap yan. Sorry. James Yap.
12:46.0
Ganito, ganito mga kameta. Aminin ko. Magaling ako sa numbers. I can remember GDP growth rate.
12:53.0
Which we're gonna talk about shortly. Ang gano'n. Naalam ko yung GDP per capita. Yung mga statistics, gano'n. Naalala ko yan.
12:59.0
Even if siguro. Muka. Ako. God willing, no?
13:06.0
Pero sa pangalan talaga. Yun yung medyo ano natin. So, sabi nga ni Isa, paano ka nung maging politiko ngayon? Diba?
13:13.0
Pag ano.
13:21.9
Gano'n. Ah, diba yung mga gano'n. Gagawin natin yan. Okay. So, guys. Just in case hindi ko naalala yung pangalan niyo.
13:27.9
It doesn't mean hindi ko kayo naalala. I'm just weak in the names. Pero yung mukha, everything, I remember. Alright?
13:32.9
Don't worry. I'm good. Medyo may pagka-photographic memory tayo.
13:41.9
Anyway, balikan natin yan. Oo, hindi Tim Yap. Hindi si James Yap. Okay? Ibang Yap po yan. Direct Y. O yan.
13:49.9
Hahaha. Baka po.
13:51.9
Baka bang galit si Tim Yap lang. Anyway. So, yan. O yan. May statement ng senator natin. So, let's talk about this. What's going on here?
14:01.9
At the same time, of course, may announcement din tayo from the office of the vice president na hindi na tutuloy.
14:08.9
Well, at least for 2024.
14:16.9
Let's see what's gonna happen in the coming year. So, but before going to the politics of politics,
14:21.9
of the Philippines, let's talk about economics very quickly. Of course, alam niyo naman, at least second love natin ng economics
14:28.9
or economic public policy, etc. In fact, isa sa mga ating mga public sector economics professor ay Professor Jock, no?
14:38.9
But anyway, mamaya na tayo punta dyan. So, good news, mga kameta. Good news.
14:49.8
Beyond expectations. At 5.9% ang taasa.
15:01.8
6% almost yung growth ng economy natin this quarter. And I'm sure yung mga ka-BBM natin dyan, proud na proud.
15:08.8
And of course, there's gonna be a lot of celebration.
15:16.8
Now, let me just say right off the bat that I'm happy that we're growing.
15:19.7
We're growing above expectations because expectations have been going low. But at the same time, let's not get ahead of ourselves.
15:25.7
So, just to put things into context, the Philippine economy expanded by 5.9% in the third quarter, largely driven by public spending.
15:31.7
So, galing sa expenditures ng gobyerno. Baka naman confidential funding. Anong public spending yan? Baka mga infrastructure spending, among others.
15:42.7
So, growth in the July to September period beat forecast and outpace of 4.3%.
15:48.6
Recorded in Q2 of this year. Now, nevertheless, this was way slower than 7.7% expansion in the same three months period a year ago.
15:58.6
So, in a way, this is way slower than last year, but that is the good news is that it was faster than the 4.7% average ng survey ng mga analyst by Reuters.
16:11.6
So, 4.7% yung average expected growth, we reach almost 6%. So, 1.2%.
16:18.6
2% higher than what was expected, right? So, that's pretty high. So, in fairness.
16:23.6
So, data shows household consumption growth 5% in the third quarter down from 8% a year earlier.
16:29.6
But government spending rose 6.7% year on year compared to 7.1% contraction for the previous quarter and growth of 0.8% a year earlier.
16:41.6
So, in short, ang nangyari po dito mga kameta is bumaba yung consumption ng ating mga kababayan.
16:46.6
Dahil nga napakataas ng price.
16:48.6
16:50.6
At of course, that's one of the reasons bumaba ng significant double-digit yung approval rating ng ating presidente.
16:56.6
And a whole lot of other top officials including president, including vice president. Lahat natamaan.
17:01.6
Ang damay-damay, di ba?
17:03.6
But bumawi naman tayo because government spending this year was 6.7% compared to minus 7.1% in the previous quarter and growth of 0.8% lang last year.
17:17.5
So 6.7% versus minus 7.1% quarter and quarter.
17:21.5
And 6.7% versus 0.8% in terms of year on year.
17:27.5
So medyo bumawi yung government spending. This could be infrastructure spending. This could be other kinds of fiscal expansionary policy by the government.
17:35.5
Nevertheless, as I said, let's also be realistic about this.
17:43.5
So yung kakayan natin bumili ng mga bagay-bagay.
17:45.4
On average, actually nag-decline.
17:52.4
And yun nga, 5% lang this quarter versus 8% last year. So significantly reduced na po yung consumption spending.
18:03.4
And we know that last year, one reason why almost 7% yung yearly growth natin is because ang taas. Nagkaroon tayo ng revenge spending.
18:11.4
At salamat dun sa mga nagregalo-regalo dyan last year.
18:15.4
Para sa bayan. But this year, mga kameta, medyo alanganin ang situation kasi dahil sa inflation, yung talagang tuloy-tuloy na pagtaas ng presyo ng mga pangunahin na bilihin, especially yung food inflation.
18:29.4
Talagang bumababa yung consumption natin at bumababa yung purchasing power ng ating mga kababayan.
18:36.4
So yes, we did better in this quarter 3 but our growth was really low in quarter 2.
18:42.4
So I don't know how we're gonna meet.
18:44.3
Itong target natin ng 6% to 7% by the end of this year, I think the realistic expectation is we're gonna grow at just above 5%.
18:52.3
If we have another 6% to 7%, siguro 5% to 6% growth next quarter, in the final quarter of this year, meaning this quarter.
19:00.3
Saan na, with December, medyo spendings go up.
19:03.3
But this is it. Even in the most realistically positive scenario of us, growing at 5.5% to maximum 6% this year.
19:13.2
Hindi pa rin yung sapat mga kameta to deal with some fundamental issues that we have in the country.
19:19.2
I discussed the fact that the Philippines were not attracting as much investment as we want despite all the travels and all the pledges.
19:26.2
Lumalabas pa nga eh. Net negative po yung FDI natin for our direct investments. Yung purchasing power natin ng mga Pilipino.
19:37.2
Remember, may population growth din tayo ng mga more than 2% annually.
19:41.1
If you're growing at just above 5%, and then you have a population growth of 2%, and then you have an inflation of beyond 3% to 4%,
19:48.1
that means in a single year, yung improvement dun sa living standard, condition of living ng isang ordinaryong Pilipino is almost negligible, to be honest.
20:01.1
Because for a country whose GDP per capita is barely $4,000, not even yet at the minimum threshold of upper middle income,
20:09.0
we have to grow 8% to 10% every year.
20:13.0
And to be honest, we also need some sort of population management program to make sure, you know, responsible, family planning, etc.
20:21.0
So that we are just at the replacement level in terms of population growth. So that yung per capita natin ay tuloy-tuloy.
20:27.0
20:35.0
And the reality is that we're operating still from a very low base of high growth.
20:39.0
High levels of food hunger, food poverty, and high levels of economic inequality.
20:45.0
20:51.0
So recently, nasa Scandinavia tayo. I mean, you cannot get posher than that, no?
20:56.0
I mean, of course, you can get posher than that if you are in Emirates or something.
21:00.0
But you get what I'm saying? Like, these are the wealthiest countries out there.
21:03.0
Honestly, I see more Ferraris and Lamborghinis in Manila than in Europe.
21:09.0
I saw more Lamborghinis and Ferraris in Manila, in just my area, I mean, I'm not even in the richest area or something like that, than in Italy even, right?
21:18.0
I was in Milano, I was in Florence, I was in Venice, all of those places.
21:26.0
21:30.0
Tapos ngayon may Tesla, Tesla pang nalaman, eh wala naman tayo matinong battery charging areas.
21:36.0
And even if meron, ang mahal naman na electricity sa Pilipinas.
21:39.0
We have serious problems with economic inequality.
21:42.0
We have serious problems with food inflation, among others.
21:45.0
So, even growing at 6%, which is almost impossible or very unlikely this year, even that would not be enough, nearly enough, no?
21:54.0
So, we need to grow at 7-8%, and we need to grow with high quality growth.
21:59.0
Meaning, bring in manufacturing investments. Meaning, create more value-added products, no?
22:07.9
Get into semiconductor production. Get into automobile manufacturing.
22:12.9
You know, bring jobs to more and more Filipinas.
22:14.9
Because yung underemployment din natin is double-digit.
22:17.9
And even yung official unemployment rate natin is highest in Southeast Asia.
22:21.9
And Southeast Asia is not the richest region. It's among, it's a developing region, right?
22:25.9
So, when you put all of those things together, mga kameta, I'm happy that we were beating the dismal expectations.
22:34.9
But at the same time, still very worried.
22:37.8
Because, pag titignan mo yung kalagayan ng isang ordinaryong Pilipino, or even not so ordinary, katulad natin mga middle class, mahal talaga.
22:45.8
Life is very expensive dito sa, especially sa Manila, tsaka malalaking syudad, no?
22:50.8
So, yun lang. Yun lang, mga kameta.
22:54.8
Oh! Mas maraming ako nakita. Promise.
22:57.8
O, bahala kayo. Maniwala sa'kin, punta kayo dyan.
23:00.8
O, punta kayo dyan sa Florence and Venice, mga gano'n.
23:03.8
Ang nakikita kong luxury car dyan, mas maraming ako nakita ng German luxury car.
23:07.8
Florence and all. Anyway.
23:09.8
23:14.8
Not even one like, you know, Ferrari or Lamborghini.
23:18.8
23:22.8
Tapos, yung mga ganyang iba-ibang kulay, mga crayons.
23:24.8
Anyway, mga kameta, let's get back to politics.
23:29.8
Just a little bit of update on that. Alam nyo naman. Alam nyo naman. Alam nyo naman.
23:33.8
Of course, also check yung mga analysis na ginawa natin with the friends.
23:37.8
Among others, of course, yung ating kasama sa Nexus podcast episode naman natin, si Lele Claudio.
23:42.8
We talk about industrial policy, trade policy, agriculture policy.
23:46.8
So check those episodes when we go deeper into developmental state dilemmas
23:51.8
and developmental state deficits in the Philippines
23:54.8
and why the Philippines has been left behind by a lot of its neighbors.
23:57.8
Alright? Pag-usapan natin yan separately also later on.
24:00.8
But you can also check those vlogs. Ipapost ko yung link dyan sa baba.
24:03.8
So don't worry about it. You can check those things on your own.
24:06.7
You know, just put my name. Hey, Darien Industrial Policy, something like that.
24:10.7
Stuff are gonna come out. Don't worry about it.
24:12.7
Alright. Now, let's get back to politics. Speaking of politics, mukhang a white flag is coming up.
24:20.7
Ito na. Bait-bait talaga ni mamaw.
24:23.7
So may...
24:36.7
Confidential funds, of course, dinala na itong issue na ito sa Philippine Supreme Court, no?
24:41.7
Questioning whether kung wala sa, you know, lined items dun sa budget, pwede ba biglang, you know, in an arbitrary fashion, etc.,
24:49.7
ibibigay dun sa ibang office, especially kung yung confidential fund for that office is questioned.
24:54.7
So in light of all of that, nagkaroon ng statement si Vice President Sara Duterte.
25:01.7
And so let's just listen to her statement dito, mga kameta.
25:06.7
Oo, di ba?
25:15.7
Relax lang.
25:17.7
Oo, wala.
25:22.7
Chill lang.
25:27.7
Ayan.
25:31.7
Akit ka na.
25:36.7
26:01.7
Bakit in use? Paano siya naging in use?
26:03.7
Hindi ko naman, tinanggal ko naman.
26:05.6
Sina-sabotage tayo ah.
26:13.6
Ayan, ito na lang.
26:16.6
Oo, ba't ayaw naman niya?
26:19.6
Excited pa naman tayo, mga kameta.
26:26.6
Go na kasi, ba't ayaw?
26:33.5
Ayan, baka pwede na.
26:38.5
Para sa bayan.
26:45.5
Ulitin natin ah.
26:56.5
26:58.5
Wait lang.
26:59.5
Hindi kailangan talaga natin ilabas to.
27:01.4
Hindi pwede lang, hindi natin ilabas yan.
27:04.4
Okay?
27:06.4
Mga kamets.
27:08.4
Ayan.
27:09.4
29:03.0
Dinikit pa sa food inflation ha?
29:05.0
Ba talagang ito si vice president?
29:08.0
Okay, that was an interesting...
29:10.0
Assalamu alaikum. Madayaw, mayaw, adlaw ka ninyong tanan.
29:13.0
Okay, so interesting no? I mean if you look at the speech, there are many things to say about it.
29:19.0
It was a very short speech. Hindi po guest yan.
29:20.9
29:23.9
Now, first of all, I've noticed with the Vice President, she presents herself as a kind of a multicultural kind of leader, no?
29:30.9
Nakita natin dun sa isang address niya dun sa kanyang pagtawag for ceasefire sa Gaza even ahead of United Nations 120 people vote,
29:39.9
even in, you know, more or less contradiction to the position of the, well, the abstention vote.
29:46.9
Although mahabang usapan, you can talk about it. Na-interview po natin si Ambassador de Vega.
29:50.9
Ambassador de Vega on that. So, please watch for the explanation of DFA bakit yan ang vote nila.
29:55.9
Anyway, dun ginamit niya yung word na shalom, no? So, reaching out to the Jewish folks.
30:03.9
And then, dito naman, Assalamu alaikum, shokran. So, of course, yung parang in-address naman niya yung mga Muslim natang kababayan.
30:11.9
And then, of course, nakikita din natin with Sara Duterte yung kanyang sinusuot, no, etc.
30:19.8
She always tries to present herself as a kind of a multicultural leader. That's quite interesting if you look at it in a certain way.
30:24.8
And then, of course, mestisa siya. She has, you know, she has mixed heritage, etc. So, that's quite interesting.
30:30.8
I always found that one of the, you know, one of the dimensions of the Dutertes that perhaps has not been as appreciated.
30:37.8
Now, of course, I know yung mga negas na sabihin nila ano lang yan, cultural appropriation lang yan, pakit lang yan, whatever.
30:42.8
But I don't know. I don't know. I mean, there are many moments when Dutertes in general, both the father and daughter, you know,
30:49.9
really, I think, shows certain degree of sincerity, if not full sincerity, diba, dito sa ganitong messaging niya.
30:56.8
I haven't seen any other high-level Filipino officials trying to do this.
31:00.8
So, I think coming from Mindanao, her having a kind of a Jewish heritage, having also Muslim and Moro relatives, etc., perhaps, you know, reflects there.
31:11.8
Now, the other thing you notice dito sa kanyang speech is, diba, very maamo, very mabayad,
31:19.8
very nice, very ano, diba. So, kitang-kita natin, this is very different dun sa, usually na yung kita natin sa mga Dutertes na talagang matapang, ganun.
31:29.7
Very different, of course, kay Digong, no? And this is also very different dun sa kanyang mga responses dun sa mga kritisismo laban.
31:36.7
Anong ulit sinabi niya kilang Franz Castro, look at the tone, no, cadence, look at the tenor of kanyang mga speeches when she was responding dun sa mga kritiko ng Confidential Fund.
31:46.7
But now, suddenly, suddenly, biglang iba yung, ano,
31:49.7
yung approach, diba? So, you could see, parang switch ng konti, diba?
31:53.7
And then, interestingly, today also became clear na hindi mukhang nag-drop na ng push na itong Office of Vice President for Confidential Funds.
32:06.7
So, Vice President Sarah Duterte has dropped her request for 650 million pesos worth of Confidential Funds, funds, funds dyan sa proposed budget for 2024, no?
32:19.7
After, nalala niyo yung speech niya just the other month about enemies of the people daw, kalaban ng bayan, yung mga nakikritisize daw sa Confidential Fund niya.
32:28.7
Now, very different tone, you're seeing it here, no? Duterte said that she has withdrawn her Confidential Fund request because the issue has become divisive.
32:37.7
I think that term divisive, I also heard it when she didn't get in Office of the National Defense Secretary also last year.
32:45.7
So, we will no longer pursue the Confidential Funds. Why?
32:48.6
Because this issue is divisive and as the Vice President, I saw it all to keep the country peaceful and strong.
32:53.6
Yan o! Unity! Unity!
32:56.6
The Office of the Vice President can, quote, only propose a budget to support the safe implementation of our programs, activities, and projects to alleviate poverty and promote the general welfare of every Filipino people.
33:07.6
So, just to recap, originally, yung request ng Office of Vice President was for 650 million pesos worth of Confidential Funds.
33:14.6
Ang breakdown niya is 500 million pesos for the Office of the Vice President.
33:18.6
150 million pesos for the Department of Education.
33:20.6
So, 650 million pesos in general, the Vice President.
33:25.6
Now, so, right? So, what you're seeing here is a definitely big recalibration, not only in terms of tenure, but also position of the Office of Vice President.
33:35.6
Now, some would see it as raising the white flag and saying, oh, peace muna tayo, unity.
33:40.6
But some would argue that, wala, damage control lang nangyayari dito.
33:45.6
But, in a way, you can also see this as a way of side deterrence.
33:48.6
Duterte signaling that, you know, she's still committed to keeping the unity together.
33:53.6
But yun nga eh, iba yung tono dun sa tatay, iba yung tonong iba.
33:58.6
And then, of course, now you have also Aimee Marcos joining the fray and making a very strong statement about, you know, yung kanyang loyalty to Duterte.
34:09.6
Even if the other side is, you know what I'm saying, interesting.
34:13.6
So, just as Sara Duterte is doing this kind of repositioning,
34:18.6
makikita natin na si Aimee Marcos naman is fortifying yung kanyang alliance with the Dutertes, no?
34:25.6
34:29.6
Sabi ni Aimee Marcos, through thick and thin, I'll stick essentially with the Dutertes.
34:35.6
Ito, post natin ito.
34:39.6
Daba. Daba. Daba.
34:46.5
Par sa buhay yan.
34:51.5
Ayan, ayan. Ito, ito, ito, ito.
34:54.5
Okay, okay, okay, okay.
34:56.5
Yan. So, ito yung statement by Sen. Aimee Marcos.
35:01.5
35:15.4
Ayan. Nanindigan para sa tunay na kaibigan. Parang, ano, talagang nag-rhyme pa. Di ba?
35:21.4
So, Sen. Aimee issued that statement not only reaffirming yung kanyang friendship with former President Rodrigo Duterte,
35:28.4
but also in-explain niya bakit ganito kalakas, no, yung kanilang bond, no?
35:34.4
Obviously, alam natin yung context niyan.
35:38.4
Ito, ito.
35:43.3
Of course, she also said na hindi lang dahil kaibigan ko si President Duterte, kaibigan ko talaga siya, higit lalo si Inday Sara,
35:55.3
36:06.3
kasamaang nagpapalaganap ng katiwalian, gutom at kara...
36:13.3
Katray... Katraydur?
36:16.3
Ay, ibang klase yan, ha. Medyo naano tayo, ha. Okay, okay. Medyo matindi yan, ha.
36:21.3
So, just to make it in English, it's not just that I'm friend with former President Duterte.
36:27.3
He's really my friend, especially Inday Sara. They're my friends in national development, maintaining peace, and fighting those spreading corruption, hunger, and treachery.
36:34.3
So, ito yung statement niya, you know, essentially throughout the years, you know.
36:40.3
She has been affirming her strong...
36:43.3
alliance and friendship with Duterte, and particularly with Inday Sara. Of course, they have also very, very close friendship.
36:48.3
As you know, it was also, I mean, Marcos, you know, in the run-up to 2022 elections that was talking to Sara Duterte, etc.
36:54.3
So, she played also a very important role of bringing the UNIT team together, together with President Arroyo, and of course,
36:59.3
the current Speaker of the House, Martin Romualdez. Ang pagkaintindi ko, Martin Romualdez was very, very influential in bringing the UNIT team together.
37:06.3
But, now you have the Speaker of the House essentially drawing the line, and of course, nakita natin nung isang araw,
37:13.4
na-demote na po. Again, for the second time, si former President Arroyo in the ranks of the Congress.
37:20.3
So, now, officially, si Arroyo ay hindi na po, not only not, not only not senior Deputy Speaker of the House,
37:30.3
pero tinanggal din po siya bilang Deputy Speaker of the House.
37:33.3
Now, the former President and former Speaker of the House reiterated her loyalty also to Speaker Romualdez, and saying that, you know, I wish the best for him.
37:41.3
But, it looks like the lines are off.
37:43.4
The lines are being drawn, and it looks like itong si, you know, the Speaker of the House is really making it clear who's the boss here, no?
37:51.3
So, where does that leave us? Now, all of this sa aking palagay, no?
37:56.3
Now, of course, you can look at many angles to this. You can look at the confidential fund issue.
38:00.3
You can look at the issue of, you know, intra-family dynamics. You can look at issue of personal friendship, personal loyalties, differences over a lot of issues.
38:10.3
Pero, to simplify it, ako para sa akin, mga kameta, no?
38:13.2
Sinulat natin sa The National Newspaper for United Arab Emirates in Abu Dhabi a few months ago, no?
38:20.2
Sabi ko, what's actually happening here, in my opinion, no?
38:24.2
What's, yung napaka-interesting dito is, is that, it looks like the, yung pinakamalakas, yung pinakamalaking dahilan, no?
38:36.2
At yung pinakamalakas na element, no?
38:43.2
Ay, it looks like fundamental disagreements dito sa direksyon ng ating foreign policy.
38:48.2
So, the cliché usually is, all politics is local, right?
38:54.2
And that's true in many ways. Positions that, you know, let's say, congressmen and congresswomen take in the US, for instance, on conflicts in the Middle East has a lot to do with their domestic constituencies.
39:07.2
It has a lot to do with their own domestic calculus in their own constituencies.
39:11.2
Or, many positioning that, let's say, Biden is taking.
39:13.3
On the Gaza conflict, for instance, has a lot to do also with domestic politics in the United States, right?
39:18.2
So, but the interesting thing is, in the Philippines, mukhang disagreements over foreign policy was really the major fault line dito sa UNITEAM.
39:29.2
Because, I think sa maraming issue, hindi naman nangkakalayo mga Dutertes and Marcoses, right?
39:34.2
Or, nangkakalayo ang one side of this UNITEAM with the other side, no? Whichever way you wanna draw it.
39:39.2
But, it looks like on foreign policy, there is some fundamental disagreement.
39:43.3
Because, President Duterte has repeatedly made it clear na para sa kanya,
39:47.2
itong decision ni Marcos Jr. na to push for expansion of EDCA ay napaka-delikado, napaka-provocative.
39:54.2
Essentially, talking points ng China, diba?
39:56.2
Yung kanyang intervention at yung kanyang current diplomacy nung nag-special envoy siya sa China was not received warmly, let's just put it mildly,
40:05.2
by a lot of people supporting Marcos Jr.
40:07.2
And, of course, you also have other proxies, you know, blaming,
40:13.3
you know, the Philippines for tensions in the West Philippine Sea by saying,
40:16.2
because we're asserting our rights, we're, you know, ginagaslight na tayo, no?
40:20.2
So, what's happening here is that maraming mga liberals, medyo yung mga dilawan pa, yung mga medyo ibang kakamping pa, diba?
40:28.2
Pansin natin, alam natin, I know that for a fact, kasi nakikita ko naman.
40:32.2
Some are actually working in the government in one way or another.
40:41.1
And one of the ways they rationalize that or justify that or feel very good about supporting a Marcos,
40:49.1
in this case, friend of Marcos Jr., is because they feel Marcos Jr. is finally standing up for our rights, sovereign rights, sa West Philippine Sea.
40:57.1
Right? So, many people, even though may issue sila sa domestic policies ni Marcos Jr., may issue sila dun sa historical legacy of martial law,
41:06.1
even if may mga issue sila dun sa all the things that happened to Lenin,
41:11.1
ni Rubredo throughout those years, the questioning of our mandate, etc.
41:15.1
This West Philippine Sea issue has become a unifying force for a lot of Filipinos.
41:19.1
And we know that vast majority of Filipinos want the government to take the stance that more or less Marcos Jr. is taking.
41:24.1
Right? Working more with our allies and friends to assert our rights, etc.
41:28.1
But, the other side to this issue is this, yung kabila, and we see this in statements of Amy Marcos.
41:34.1
We see this in the statements of Gloria Macabagal-Arroyo or based on our understanding of how she believes the Philippines should act.
41:41.1
Based on my own interview with her a few years ago.
41:44.1
This is based very much on the very vocal criticism of Digong of foreign policy of BBM.
41:51.1
Now, if you look at all of those things, yung kabilang kampo, what they share all in common,
41:55.1
Amy Marcos, Arroyo, Duterte, I'm not still sure with Sara because Sara may safe pa rin yung mga statements niya.
42:02.1
And you can see that Sara Duterte is perhaps still trying to keep the UNIT team together and essentially the white flag is there.
42:09.0
She's withdrawing even any request for confidential funds.
42:11.0
Whether that's enough, I don't know. We can discuss that later on with RNR and RRL and the rest.
42:16.0
But, going back to this, the position of these people, if you look at the statements of Amy,
42:20.0
you look at the statements of Digong among others, there's a big overlap there.
42:23.0
And the argument there is, it is incumbent upon us to reach out to China.
42:28.0
Because the more we double down our security cooperation with the United States,
42:32.0
the more na may incentive ang China na bubulin dais sa West Philippine Sea because China is threatened with our alliance with the United States.
42:39.1
Now obviously these people are not so much talking about the threats that has been posed to us from the other side.
42:44.0
You can say that's a form of strategic gaslighting.
42:47.0
But just to be fair about it, that's essentially the argument.
42:51.0
That the Philippines, similar to Malaysia, similar to many Southeast Asian countries,
42:56.0
and increasingly similar to Vietnam since last year October, should tone things down a little bit.
43:02.0
And not to also dissimilar from Prime Minister Albanese of Australia.
43:06.0
So some of you have seen yung interview ko with CNBC.
43:09.1
International on the visit of Prime Minister Albanese of Australia to China.
43:14.0
And what are the lessons for us in ASEAN.
43:17.0
So what we're seeing is that many are saying, you know, we have to be nice to China.
43:21.0
We have to play it nice with China.
43:22.0
And perhaps if we play it nice enough with China, including not giving ETCA bases to Americans close to Taiwan among others,
43:28.0
then maybe we'll get something good in exchange.
43:30.0
But my problem of course with that argument is that we were nice to China for years, if not full six years under Digong.
43:37.9
What did we get in terms of infrastructure investment?
43:39.9
What did we get in terms of concessions?
43:41.9
Now, of course, the counter argument on the other side would be, okay, maybe things were not perfect,
43:45.9
but at least there was no threat of war or conflict.
43:47.9
Now, because of the decisions of BBM to double down on security cooperation, yun sa ETCA, etc.,
43:52.9
43:56.9
Now, again, I think there's some fear-mongering, some pa-paranoia effect happening there,
44:02.9
but I do not completely disagree with that.
44:04.9
I do believe that tensions are rising and that we have to be very careful.
44:07.9
in approaching what's happening in the West Philippine Sea.
44:10.9
And also, we have to be very careful about the speed and the nature of expansion of ETCA bases
44:16.9
and security cooperation by our allies.
44:18.9
So, ang basa ko dito is the deepest fault line dito sa UNITIM Alliance talaga ay itong issue ng foreign policy.
44:29.9
This issue of foreign policy seems to be really, really the driving force, itong division na ito.
44:35.8
And this is why I'm saying, if you look at the Philippines today,
44:37.8
we are very much at the front line of the new Cold War between the United States and China,
44:42.8
and that is being reflected in no less than the upper echelons of our politics.
44:49.8
And then, of course, there's always the aspect of rivalry and power politics,
44:53.8
but I think for the first time in our history, we're seeing how foreign policy is becoming so important
44:58.8
that it's driving fault lines and divisions dun sa no less than relationship,
45:04.7
not only between the two most powerful families in the country,
45:07.7
but also, some would say, even dynamics between siblings, among others, right?
45:11.7
Because of disagreements on the foreign policy direction.
45:13.7
You know what? Believe me, look at the statements out there. Everything is out there.
45:16.7
You can see it on your own. You just have to connect the dots, alright?
45:19.7
On that note, thank you very much, mga kameta. Maraming salamat.
45:22.7
I appreciate yung mga, yan, yung mga comments, comments dyan.
45:28.7
Ayan, ang dami na nag-comment. Ang mga may natin patulan yan.
45:32.7
Don't worry. Siguro, hopefully, Saturday,
45:34.7
we'll try to have more discussions with other friends about this as we get more and more updates on this.
45:39.7
But at least, I hope you appreciate dito yung mga analysis natin.
45:42.7
On that note, thank you very much. God bless and talk to you soon.
45:45.7
Salamat po.
