Let's keep talking.
00:36.8
Kaibigan, tuloy ang usap.
00:39.5
I've been very blessed to do what I do.
00:43.5
I've seen the world, worked with my idols.
00:47.4
But no matter where I go or who I meet, my heart comes back to one place.
00:57.3
Ang aking pangarap ay ipagdiwang ng buong mundo ang ganda at tunay na ating
01:11.1
ang musika ng OPM, Original Filipino Music.
01:18.7
And along with some of my good friends, inihahandog ko sa inyo ang mga awitin na siyang bumago sa aking buhay.
01:27.3
Because of that, I've still been with Hoje
01:40.7
Aking ka na lang.
01:43.1
Aking ka na lang.
01:47.7
Ang ganda na sa araw-araw.
01:54.7
Aking ka na lang...
01:57.3
Aking kanila
02:00.0
At maghihintay
02:05.0
Hanggang aking kanila
02:08.4
Kili
02:27.3
At maghihintay
02:57.3
It's good to see you again
02:58.9
I am happy to see you
03:00.6
Kwento, ano ang mga bago?
03:04.2
Anong mga hindi nababago?
03:07.6
A lot of things has changed, Tito Boy
03:09.8
Since we last seen
03:11.5
I released my third and final album
03:13.5
And I'm just starting to step into
03:16.2
A different era of my artistry in my life
03:19.6
And I'm just very happy to be here
03:21.4
Pag-usapan natin ang Dalamhati
03:23.1
Yeah
03:23.5
Because that's your third OPM Collective
03:26.8
I think Dalamhati for me is my most special album
03:29.8
Because for a number of reasons
03:31.3
The first reason is because
03:32.9
It's my first album that I produced
03:35.3
As an openly gay man
03:37.1
And you know being
03:38.8
Open about myself is something that I've wanted
03:41.6
For so long
03:42.5
So to be able to put all that emotion
03:45.4
And all those feelings
03:47.3
Finally openly and liberated
03:49.4
And freely into a
03:51.1
Body of work
03:52.3
Is just something that I've dreamed about
03:54.9
So this is a celebration of you being
03:56.7
Gay
03:57.2
Yes
03:57.7
This third collective
03:58.9
Yes
03:59.4
Paano?
03:59.9
How did it impact into
04:02.4
Let's say the choice of songs
04:05.0
At the centers?
04:06.1
Yeah well these songs
04:08.5
All have become just kind of beacons of hope for me
04:10.9
During my process of coming out
04:12.7
And with the singers
04:14.7
They're all people that have
04:17.5
You know been with me through it all
04:19.1
Okay I want to talk about the songs
04:22.3
In Dalamhati
04:24.6
I know Martin released one
04:26.2
Okay?
04:26.7
Yes
04:27.2
It's called
04:28.0
Kaya Ganda ng Ating Musika
04:29.6
Yes
04:30.1
Kaya ganda ng ating musika
04:33.2
Kaya ganda ng ating musika
04:38.8
What is that?
04:39.7
Yes
04:40.3
Does Huling El Bimbo
04:43.1
Tama
04:43.6
Yes
04:44.1
Magkahawakan nating kanta
04:49.7
My cousin's fiance
04:51.6
His name is Moy
04:52.4
He actually recommended me this beautiful
04:54.5
Eraserhead song
04:55.4
Huling El Bimbo
04:56.2
And I'd known about the song, but he gave me, I guess, the courage to do my own take on it.
05:02.8
My Troy Loretta version of it.
05:04.3
So, being able to do Ang Huling El Bimbo is kind of my way of connecting more with the people.
05:09.3
Aside from Huling El Bimbo, you also have Jonathan Manalos, our friends.
05:15.2
Yes.
05:22.8
This is performed in your album by?
05:25.2
By Pia Toscano and Lauren Allred.
05:28.7
Good friends, right?
05:29.4
Good friends of mine.
05:30.7
Obviously, we all know Pia Toscano from American Idol and Lauren Allred for doing Never Enough from The Greatest Showman.
05:36.6
So, to be able to bring those two together on this song and do a duet version of such an epic song written by Sir Jonathan, it was just such a moment.
05:45.1
Ogie is also part of, dahil mahatipo, mahatip si Ogie Alcacid.
05:49.1
And he does what song?
05:50.2
He does, we do an acoustic version of his classic, Ang Pangarap Ko Ang Ibigin Ka.
05:55.2
Ang Pangarap Ko Ang Ibigin Ka
06:01.3
When I told him that we were going to do this song, I told Sir Ogie, I really want to do a stripped down version.
06:07.6
My album is very sad and I have this arrangement with just piano and strings.
06:12.4
And I wanted to strip it down so people can listen to your voice and the actual song.
06:17.1
And it came out so beautifully. He sang all the high notes, sang beautifully and Sir Ogie is the best.
06:22.7
There's nothing like the OPM.
06:25.2
Okay, Troy, itong collectives mo, Kaibigan, Giliw, Dalamhati, are your tribute to original Pilipino music.
06:36.1
You've made your mark abroad.
06:38.4
You've worked with the likes of Ariana Grande, Bocelli, David Foster.
06:43.6
You just certainly made this country proud by doing a lot of things that you've been doing.
06:47.8
Okay, so having been there and having achieved what you have achieved,
06:55.2
why are you doing this?
06:58.7
Filipino music has influenced my style of music and the way that I am as a musician for so long
07:04.2
that I wasn't able to formally give Filipino music and Filipinos their flowers and recognition
07:10.7
for molding me into the musician that I am today.
07:14.0
And that's something that's very heavy on my heart.
07:17.1
And it's for my family too.
07:19.8
I see how hard they work and what they had to do to get here.
07:25.2
It was my way of just saying thank you.
07:29.7
And for anybody that's, you know, the youth especially, that's, you know, something to be proud of.
07:36.9
Something to look and listen to and be seen and heard.
07:41.1
Because when I was growing up, there wasn't Filipino music other than what I saw on TFC.
07:45.3
But if someone in the States or someone in the province here can listen to, you know, our music being sung by the world,
07:51.6
I'm hoping that it gives them the courage to just step into it.
07:55.2
To their life.
07:56.0
Because I would have loved that back when I was a little younger.
08:00.0
Did you come with David Foster when he did his concerts in Manila?
08:03.9
You did?
08:04.4
I did.
08:04.9
The very first time you were contacted to do this for David, was that scary?
08:09.2
Yes.
08:09.9
It was.
08:10.4
His manager called me on a random Tuesday or something and said that,
08:14.7
Hey, David needs a musical director.
08:16.9
And I, telling you, the boy, I got so scared.
08:19.6
I almost didn't do the audition.
08:21.6
I wasn't sure if I was ready.
08:23.7
But I did.
08:25.2
I did it.
08:25.8
And he's been following my career with Ariana and all the other artists that I've worked with through the years.
08:30.7
And he's no, he, you know.
08:33.0
Let's talk about Ariana Grande.
08:34.7
Paano kayo nagkatrabaho ni Ariana Grande?
08:37.4
I got with Ariana through auditions also.
08:41.2
Auditions in LA.
08:42.7
I became her musical director on her first major world tour, the Honeymoon Tour.
08:47.0
How was it working with somebody like Miss Grande?
08:50.0
Amazing.
08:50.5
You know, I'm a fan of singers.
08:53.6
So when I was able to work with,
08:55.5
someone that's not only famous and beautiful but actually fulfills my musical heart and my 90s heart because she's like a mini-Biritera.
09:03.6
I loved it.
09:04.3
I mean, it's something so natural for me because I worked with all these Filipino singers.
09:07.9
So.
09:08.4
Mabait siya.
09:08.9
Super and very good singer.
09:10.7
I know this is not something that's important to you because you are an artist from head to toe.
09:15.5
But how good is the money in that kind of thing?
09:18.7
It pays the bills, Tito.
09:19.9
Dollars.
09:20.4
Dollars.
09:20.9
Dollars.
09:21.8
Yeah.
09:22.3
Let's move on to Katy Perry.
09:23.7
You work with Katy.
09:25.2
I worked with her on a couple gigs.
09:26.2
We do, it was through David and we did these, we do like these corporate events and we did a full set of her songs and it was so much fun.
09:34.2
It was a very short situation but I was able to play fireworks and you know, all the hits and it was just super fun.
09:41.2
And she was very nice, she came in rehearsal, went on her way and it was really fun.
09:45.2
Bocelli, how was it?
09:46.2
That one for me was special because I, obviously, we all know Bocelli from singing like songs like The Prayer.
09:54.2
And I grew up with her.
09:54.6
And I grew up with that song.
09:55.6
So when I got to work with him, my first gig with Bocelli was actually in Italy and we performed at the Colosseum.
10:03.6
So if you could imagine, that was my first introduction.
10:06.6
And that was actually one of my first David Foster gigs.
10:09.6
It was a moment that I'll always remember because full circle moment.
10:13.6
What do you learn from that?
10:15.6
Artists and celebrities are just normal people.
10:18.6
I think for a lot of, big part of my career, I was so like .
10:23.6
I want to see everybody but when, as I got to the later parts of my career, you know, being able to hold your hand,
10:31.6
or make jokes with Miss Reg or you know, high five Nicole.
10:35.6
I just, they're just people and they just want to connect on a more personal level and I love that.
10:42.6
It's a surreal thing for me because I looked up to these people.
10:45.6
The great thing about your story is that it was not easy to get there.
10:49.6
No.
10:50.6
You paid your dues.
10:51.6
I sure did.
10:52.6
Yeah, you did.
10:53.6
I think I did.
10:54.6
Kaya yung dalamhati po ay napaka lalim ng ibig sabihin sa akin as somebody who knows you.
10:59.6
And when I was going through the tracks, I said, this is Troy's ode to, you know, the country.
11:06.6
And more importantly, sabi mo nga mahalaga din itong Third Collective sa'yo because this is your first work.
11:13.6
Your opus as a gay man.
11:16.6
Yes.
11:17.6
Tell me the story.
11:18.6
I was closeted for a long time because I didn't want to disappoint my family.
11:22.6
I thought within myself that if I was able to just do so good at music that they wouldn't care about, you know, me being gay.
11:30.6
And you did.
11:31.6
I did.
11:32.6
And you did.
11:33.6
But then it started to take a toll on me where I was kind of hiding who I was and I didn't see myself anymore.
11:39.6
And it wasn't until my grandfather died in 2016 that I kind of made the decision to just start to come out slowly.
11:48.6
And it wasn't until last year that I officially came out to the world.
11:51.6
And it was so hard, tito boy.
11:53.6
How did it happen?
11:54.6
I was sitting with my mom at breakfast and she, you know, was just wondering, like, why are you so quiet?
12:02.6
Why are you being weird?
12:03.6
Why are you...
12:04.6
She kept badgering me and finally I just started crying and I fell to the floor and I told her that I'm gay and I'm tired.
12:13.6
I'm very tired.
12:14.6
And she just gave me a hug and she said that it's okay.
12:19.6
And that...
12:21.6
That part was probably the most hurtful part of coming out because, like, then I realized, like, grave, like, for 30 years I could have came out sooner.
12:31.6
And it...
12:32.6
There was a lot of regret of, like, we could have made more memories.
12:36.6
We could have...
12:37.6
We could have done this.
12:38.6
We could have done that for the longest time.
12:40.6
But I wasted so much time.
12:42.6
My dad's reaction was similar.
12:44.6
My dad didn't care.
12:46.6
And that was the one that I was worried about.
12:49.6
My dad...
12:50.6
Filipino from Quezon City, baby.
12:52.6
Like, you know, tol, bro.
12:55.6
So, when he was cool with it, it just made my heart jump.
13:00.6
No, I have a different way of looking at it.
13:02.6
You didn't waste time.
13:03.6
You are who you are today because of those years.
13:06.6
Because you know why?
13:07.6
When you put in an act, when you perform, because you want parents to be happy and you don't want anybody disappointed, you're coming from a place of love.
13:15.6
So, can you imagine every time you'd play today?
13:19.6
I'd look forward.
13:20.6
Ito nga yung dalamhati.
13:22.6
I look forward to listening intently to every track because Choi found himself in this album.
13:29.6
Di ba? Parang ano kaya ang pagkakaiba?
13:32.6
Ano kaya ang tunog na ginawa ni Choi dito?
13:35.6
And it's really interesting.
13:38.6
It's really interesting.
13:39.6
And thank you for making us part of this journey.
13:43.6
Really, thank you.
13:45.6
I'm just very honored to be on this journey.
13:47.6
And I'm hoping that I make a difference in Filipino music.
13:51.6
You will. You really will.
13:53.6
If there is one song, Choi, and I know I've asked you this, but again, now on a different phase in your life, if there's one song that defines who you are, what is it?
14:04.6
You'll be surprised at the answer, Tito Boy.
14:06.6
The one song that will always bring back memories and make me feel happy or sad depending on the moment is this beautiful Bisaya song.
14:16.6
It's called Usahay.
14:26.6
I'm a very proud Cebuano. I'm very proud Bisaya.
14:29.6
So to be able to showcase that to the Philippines and the world.
14:35.6
Have you arranged Usahay?
14:37.6
You have?
14:38.6
Yes, I have.
14:39.6
Can I listen to part of the song?
14:46.6
Sure, yes.
14:47.6
Listen,
15:05.5
I don't.
15:13.6
Good song.
15:14.6
The best.
15:16.6
What do you want to tell the Filipino people?
15:20.3
I want to say that the past couple of years have been so beautiful for me.
15:27.2
To the Filipino people, to be able to connect with you guys on a musical level is something that I've been wanting all my life.
15:37.2
And I just want to say thank you guys so much for embracing me and my music these past couple of years.
15:43.4
And I also want to say on just a personal level when it comes to OPM, you know, God has taken me to such beautiful places, Tito Boy.
15:54.0
But there is nothing like coming home.
15:56.7
And we can like Ariana, we can like Journey, we can love Whitney Houston.
16:02.2
But it's still amazing and beautiful to celebrate Milita Corrales, Martin Rivera, Haji Alejandro.
16:12.0
To celebrate our music.
16:13.9
Because our music is so beautiful.
16:15.7
And I mean a lot of people ask me like why do you do this or why are you so passionate about it?
16:20.5
Because OPM has literally saved my life.
16:24.1
Dalabhati is a story about how I was able to get through the mental stuff that I was going through.
16:35.4
And I used Filipino music to get me through those times.
16:39.3
And I'm hoping that Filipino people in the future will be able to do the same.
16:43.3
And I'm hoping that Filipino people in the future will be able to do the same.
16:43.4
And I'm hoping that Filipino people in the future will be able to be reminded of how powerful our music is.
16:50.4
And that it can take someone from being at rock bottom and bring you back on top.
16:56.7
And I'm hoping that with these three albums and the work that I'm doing, that Filipinos have something to be proud of when it comes to original Filipino music.
17:06.5
And it's something to be celebrated and constantly celebrated.
17:10.6
Joy, thank you.
17:12.0
Thank you.
17:12.6
God bless you.
17:13.4
Always.
17:14.4
And you know the most important lesson I learned tonight in this conversation is aside from the love for mom and the love for family,
17:21.9
is that if you want some things to happen to you in your life and your career, show up.
17:27.1
Do it.
17:28.4
And live with love.
17:43.4
Be there for the pain because what you can do can save yourself.
17:48.4
Stand up.
17:49.7
Make yourself a sign for faith in God.
17:51.3
Stand up.
17:52.0
Right.
17:56.5
To the end of this story, in the next video, we will have another day and we are going to honour President 되는 avoided from the endorsement at the country.
18:03.6
So let us hang in there together, ladies and gentlemen.
18:07.8
May God bless you.
18:12.3
Nais maramdaman, nais maramdaman, kailan kaya?
18:23.9
Kailan kaya?
18:42.3
Kailan kaya?
19:12.3
Thank you to B&B Studios at Quezon City, owned and operated by Keep Filming.
