In the Philippines,

where dragons take on a form as diverse and vibrant

as the archipelago and our indigenous people.

Here in my motherland,

of our mythologies,

embodying a rich blend of indigenous roots

and external influences.

Perhaps the most famous is the Bakunawa,

a serpent-like deity believed to be the cause of eclipses

by devouring the moon.

This dragon,

both feared and revered,

of the Visayas and the Bicol regions,

reminding us of the celestial dance

between the earthly and the divine.

You know, where communities come together,

where there are pots and pans

to prevent darkness from engulfing our world.

And ascending from ocean depths

the Naga found throughout Southeast Asia

the Rong. Unlike its fearsome

Western counterparts, the Rong is a

during Tet, aka the

Vietnamese New Year, showering
