03:41.9
the vice president and COO of one of the country's finest and leading furniture manufacturers.
03:56.8
Philox started really as a mom-and-pop company.
03:59.5
And in 1921,
03:60.0
It started with two carpenters in the backyard.
04:03.8
Up to now, we still use the traditional techniques of wood manufacturing.
04:08.4
What I'm most proud of is that at the core of the DNA of Philox,
04:13.2
it's really about highlighting Filipino craftsmanship.
04:16.5
We strive for international standards in terms of design and services.
04:20.4
So that's our goal, right?
04:21.7
Bringing us to the international level in terms of product and design and service,
04:26.9
but still maintaining the Filipino.
04:28.7
Thank you.
04:30.0

I wanted to be a VJ when I was a teenager.
04:35.6
Really?
04:36.3
Who didn't?
04:37.5
I was just really pleasantly surprised to get the call from someone in ABS and saying,
04:42.9
you know what?
04:43.4
We have this show in the pipeline and we want you to co-host it.
04:47.2

05:30.0
The Asian Development Bank lowers its growth forecast for the Philippines this year.
05:35.9
The Philippine unemployment and underemployment rates fall in February.
05:41.2
And the City of Manila implementing a tiered heat warning system amid scorching temperatures.
05:46.8
We'll discuss that with Manila Mayor Honey Lacuna.
05:51.1
I'm Stanley Palisada.
05:52.3
Dateline Philippines begins right now.
05:54.2
For those of you watching us on YouTube and Facebook, nice to have you with us.
05:58.4
We begin with President Ferdinand.
05:60.0
President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.'s arrival in Washington, D.C. for the historic Trilateral Summit of the U.S., Japan, and the Philippines.
06:06.9
High on the agenda, China's aggressive maritime behavior and deepening economic ties.
06:12.5
Our very own Katrina Domingo joins us live from Washington, D.C. with our top story.
06:17.6
Kat, go ahead.
06:21.7
Hi, Stanley.
06:22.8
A historic and possibly one of the most momentous events in our country's history.
06:27.1
That's how Philippine Ambassador to the United States,
06:30.0
Jose Manuel Ramirez, describes the first ever trilateral summit of the Philippines, Japan, and the United States
06:36.2
happening here in a few hours.
06:38.5
You see, while the three countries are actually expected to amplify their commitment to uphold the rule of law in the South China Sea,
06:45.5
Tokyo and Washington are also expected to pour in at least 100 billion U.S. dollars in the next five years in the Philippines
06:53.2
in order for them to accelerate and surge high-quality infrastructure in several key sectors,
06:59.4
including agriculture,
06:60.0
energy,
07:00.4
maritime cooperation,
07:02.0
technology,
07:02.8
and cyber security.
07:04.3
Romualdo says while some U.S. companies are looking to bring in small modular nuclear power plants,
07:09.3
the Philippines is also expected to benefit from Japan's growing production of defense and security technologies.
07:15.8
Take a listen.
07:18.3
This meeting is not only important, but it is also significant.
07:23.9
Aside from the defense strategies that we have put in place,
07:30.0
the enhancement of our economic cooperation with Japan and the United States is just as important.
07:36.5
The energy exploration, of course, which involves the West Philippine Sea,
07:41.8
is also part and parcel of what we're looking at to bump up our energy requirements,
07:47.8
which is increasing every year.
07:52.0
The more exciting part of the clean energy projects that we're trying to lure in,
07:60.0
We have 7,640 islands and this is going to be perfect for us. It's much safer, it's cleaner, and at the same time, it is a very new technology.
08:19.9
Stanley, despite the show of force from Manila, Tokyo, and Washington, Ramaldez insists that this activity is not meant to provoke any country.
08:27.8
We also spoke to U.S. National Security Communications Advisor John Kirby and he says that there is no reason for China to overreact to the minilateral strategies happening in the region,
08:41.2
specifically the recent quadrilateral exercises involving Australia, Japan, the Philippines, and the United States. Here's what he said earlier.
08:50.7
This is about freedom of navigation. It's about adherence to international law.
08:56.5
It's about proving...
08:57.8
The simple point that we and our allies will fly, sail, and operate wherever international law permits us to do.
09:08.9
And it does in the South China Sea, and we did.
09:16.5
Ramaldez says all these meetings and deals are rooted on the Philippines' desire to do one thing.
09:24.2
We know clearly what we want to do, which is to protect our territory.
09:27.8
And our sovereign rights.
09:30.4
And so all of these things that we're doing is precisely in that direction.
09:35.5
You know, for so many years, the Filipino patience has been stretched to the limit.
09:41.3
And we are now at the point where are we just going to sit and allow, see our fishermen suffer?
09:47.6
We just want to be given our right to be able to explore our own environment, our territory.
09:57.5
There is...
09:57.8
Respect for international law.
10:06.0
Stanley, all of these commitments as well as projects are expected to be outlined in the joint vision statement
10:12.4
that the three leaders are expected to release after the end of their trilateral summit later this afternoon.
10:18.4
Aside from these trilateral summit, the president is also expected to hold a bilateral meeting with U.S. President Joe Biden
10:24.4
as well as a separate meeting with U.S. Defense Secretary.
10:27.8
Lloyd Austin.
10:28.9
Aside from that, Stanley, the president is also expected to woo several U.S. investors
10:32.9
to come and do more business in the Philippines, including several executives from tech companies such as Google.
10:39.6
Stanley.
10:40.2
All right, Kat.
10:40.9
You know, China's not very happy about this meeting.
10:43.5
What sense are you getting as to the priority or the prominence of the defense side of the trilateral summit?
10:53.4
How big is it?
10:54.2
How major is it that's going to be tackled in the next...
10:57.8
couple of sessions because we're also getting a sense that this is an economic gathering,
11:03.5
this is to woo investors, this is to improve better cooperations in many other fields aside from defense.
11:13.9
Right.
11:14.6
Stanley, John Kirby earlier described this as the first of its kind in terms of scale.
11:20.1
He did not specifically give us a specific figure as to the amount of investments that Washington and Tokyo
11:26.6
are expected to pour into.
11:27.8
But he did say that we will have to wait and see the leader's statement later on for us to get an exact picture
11:34.9
of how big or of how heavy the gravity of this trilateral meeting is.
11:41.2
Stanley, if we would recall, this is not the first time that the U.S. held a trilateral meeting here.
11:46.0
The U.S. earlier held a trilateral meeting with Japan as well as in South Korea.
11:50.3
And a lot of analysts are seeing this kind of minilateral strategies as one of the U.S.'s tactics to revitalize.
11:56.8
Right.
11:57.8
Alliances in the Indo-Pacific.
11:59.5
Stanley.
12:00.1
All right, Katrina Domingo, thank you so much for giving us updates.
12:02.9
We do hope to hear more from you soon.
12:07.6
China asserts there has never been any problem with freedom of navigation in the South China Sea.
12:12.4
That statement coming from Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Mao Ning in reaction to the upcoming trilateral summit in Washington.
12:21.9
Thanks to the joint efforts of China and ASEAN,
12:26.3
the South China Sea has been able to move forward.
12:27.6
Thanks to the joint efforts of China and ASEAN,
12:27.7
the South China Sea has been able to move forward.
12:27.9
China has basically maintained peace and stability.
12:30.2
Some countries outside the region led by the United States
12:33.4
are constantly forming small circles in the South China Sea
12:37.3
to engage in confrontation in the name of cooperation,
12:41.3
flex their muscles in the name of peace,
12:44.1
and create chaos in the name of order.
12:48.6
Beijing claims sovereignty over nearly the entire South China Sea
12:52.8
despite competing claims from other countries, including the Philippines.
12:57.7
In other news, the Asian Development Bank lowering its growth forecast for the Philippines this year.
13:04.6
Lady Vicencio now joins us with details. Lady, over to you.
13:08.9
Yes, Stanley. The Asian Development Bank downgraded its 2024 growth forecast for the Philippines to 6% from 6.2%.
13:17.7
ADB Principal Country Specialist Christina Lozano pointed out two upside risks to inflation for this light revision.
13:25.3
Lozano said extreme weather events such as El Nino affect agricultural production and food prices can affect inflation.
13:33.2
Inflation pressures due to higher shipping costs is also seen to have an impact on prices of imported goods.
13:40.3
Despite the downgrade, ADB Philippines Country Director Pavit Ramachandra noted that the country is still among economies expected to grow the fastest in the region.
13:49.9
He said the Philippine economy has been resilient and is still a frontrunner in the region,
13:55.0
along with robust growth on the back of domestic demand consumption and investment and its resilient service sector.
14:02.6
The ADB noted on the government's sustained push on infrastructure spending to attract foreign investment.
14:09.1
Ramachandra believes that the private sector participation will be a key engine of growth for the country.
14:16.4
He urged for more investments in renewable energy and digitalization for sustainable growth.
14:23.0
For these investments to materialize,
14:25.0
the ADB said the government needs to improve implementation of ease of doing business
14:30.0
to position the Philippines as an investment destination.
14:33.7
He also added that reducing market barriers and improving access to finance for small-medium enterprises
14:40.8
could be key actors in driving growth.
14:43.5
The ADB today also released its 2025 growth outlook for the Philippines, pegged at 6.2%.
14:50.3
2024 growth forecast, meanwhile, for developing Asia was slightly raised,
14:55.0
to 4.9% from the 4.8% projection in December.
15:00.2
Stanley?
15:01.2
Alright, thank you so much for the update, Lady Vicentio.
15:04.6
Moving on, the Philippine jobless and underemployment rates go down in February.
15:09.3
Jackie Pascual joins us to tell us more. Go ahead, Jackie.
15:13.6
Hi, Stanley. The Philippine Statistics Authority reported the second lowest unemployment rate in nearly two decades.
15:20.0
The PSA said it recorded a 3.5% unemployment rate in February 2020.
15:25.0
In 2024, PSA Undersecretary and National Statistician Claire Dennis Mapa said
15:29.9
the 3.5% equates to around 1.8 million jobless Filipinos,
15:35.2
which is lower than 2.15 million jobless Filipinos in January.
15:40.5
It is also lower than the 4.8% unemployment rate in February of last year.
15:46.2
The lowest unemployment rate recorded since 2005 was 3.1% in December last year.
15:52.7
2005, Stanley, was the year.
15:54.8
PSA?
15:55.0
PSA amended the definition of unemployed to include 15 years old and above
15:59.1
who reported as without work or looking for work.
16:02.3
Mapa said the February figures were up due to increased activities
16:06.1
as the school opening for college resumed
16:09.1
and also as harvest season also began for the agriculture sector.
16:14.1
PSA said the major industries which have large increases in employment are
16:17.6
wholesale and retail with additional 1.61 million jobs,
16:22.1
agriculture, additional 1 million jobs
16:24.3
compared to the free market,
16:25.0
accommodation and food services,
16:27.8
construction,
16:28.9
as well as transportation and storage.
16:31.8
Overall, PSA said the labor force participation rate hit 64.8%
16:36.3
or roughly 50.75 million in February.
16:39.9
Under employment rate also is down 12.4%
16:43.6
or equivalent to 6 million Filipinos
16:45.7
from 13.9% in January and 12.9% in February last year.
16:52.1
The National Economic and Development Authority welcomes
16:55.0
the labor figures saying that the government remains firm
16:58.7
in prioritizing people-centered policies
17:00.9
and attracting job-creating investments
17:03.7
to support the continued improvement of the Philippine labor market.
17:08.1
And that's the latest, Stanley. Back to you.
17:09.9
Alright, thank you so much for the update, Jackie Pascual.
17:12.9
Moving on, a socioeconomic think tank says
17:15.2
the wages of Filipino workers are not enough to support family expenses.
17:19.9
Ybon Foundation says on average,
17:21.6
employees across the country earn around P400.
17:25.0
That figure is only one-third of the 1,200 pesos
17:30.3
a family of five needs to buy necessary food and non-food items
17:34.8
with enough allowance for savings and investments for social security.
17:39.9
Ybon Foundation now warning
17:41.3
the situation could further worsen in the coming years.
17:46.3
Unfortunately, yes.
17:47.8
The record of the Philippines in terms of minimum wages is pretty bad.
17:51.0
We have been tracking minimum wages since 1989.
17:55.0
I don't think very many people know that the average minimum wage,
18:00.5
the real minimum wage now,
18:01.9
is actually less than in 1989 or 35 years ago.
18:06.3
Only NCR has seen a slight increase
18:08.8
by about one-third of 1% compared to 1989.
18:13.0
But I think that's a dramatic problem
18:14.7
to have out of 17 regions,
18:17.6
16 regions have lower minimum wages now in real terms than in 1989.
18:21.9
Thank you.
18:25.0
The City of Manila taking the next step
18:28.9
in ensuring the safety of the public
18:30.4
amid extreme heat being experienced throughout the country.
18:34.0
The city is set to introduce a tiered warning system
18:36.4
based on the heat index forecast issued by the Weather Bureau.
18:40.8
Joining us now to talk about this
18:42.6
is Manila Mayor Dr. Honey Lacuna.
18:44.8
Mayor Lacuna, thanks a lot for coming on to the show.
18:48.3
Hi, good afternoon, Stanley.
18:50.3
Alright, yesterday we spoke with Pag-Asa
18:52.5
on the proposed tiered alert system for heat indexing.
18:55.0
Pag-Asa thinks this is a good idea.
18:57.7
This has been proposed by a congressman.
18:59.8
Do you subscribe to this as well?
19:02.3
Yes, actually we're adopting
19:04.4
the existing effect-based classification by Pag-Asa.
19:10.1
We are adopting it right now.
19:12.5
So it all starts with the different classifications
19:17.7
like the heat index,
19:19.7
like the one we have when there are typhoons.
19:22.6
Okay.
19:24.2
That's...
19:24.9
Heat index 1, 2, 3, and 4.
19:29.0
So the heat index 1
19:31.2
is of course from the 27 degrees to 32 degrees
19:36.3
which is caution
19:38.8
and then 33 to 41 degrees extreme caution.
19:43.9
41 until 51 is danger
19:47.8
and then 52 and above extreme danger.
19:51.4
Okay, and at which point in these alert systems
19:54.3
do you...
19:54.9
you know, disrupt or do you suspend classes or work?
19:59.0
Actually, we have already
20:00.9
the Department of DCS Manila
20:04.7
has already adopted a scheme
20:08.6
in which there's an alternate face-to-face
20:12.8
and online classes.
20:15.4
So, yung mga bata po
20:17.6
ay pumapasok from 6 a.m. until 12 p.m. only.
20:22.3
Yeah.
20:22.4
So, alternate po yan yung afternoon classes.
20:24.9
So, we'll go on face-to-face
20:26.9
and then the next day naman po
20:29.6
yung morning classes
20:30.5
we'll go on face-to-face
20:31.8
and then the other half
20:33.0
we'll go online.
20:34.4
Okay.
20:34.7
But then,
20:35.8
we should note that
20:37.0
the extreme heat
20:38.3
really is from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
20:42.6
So, it is rather
20:43.8
of the school,
20:45.5
the school principals
20:46.4
to cancel classes if needed.
20:50.8
Okay.
20:51.3
It might be a different story though
20:52.8
with businesses and other organizations.
20:54.9
Within the city,
20:55.9
this kind of disruption
20:57.0
can affect not just operations
20:58.8
but even revenues as well.
21:01.3
Have you spoken to the business sector
21:03.2
about this and what do they think?
21:05.5
We are in the process, of course.
21:07.6
There are recommendations
21:08.4
coming from the local government
21:10.1
but these are things
21:12.3
that they have to consider.
21:15.8
We do not want any business
21:19.2
to be disrupted in the city of Manila.
21:21.6
Okay.
21:22.5
And you should also note,
21:24.3
we should also note
21:25.6
that the heat index actually
21:27.4
is computed
21:29.7
by temperature and humidity
21:33.7
which is done indoors.
21:35.7
So, it is totally different
21:37.8
from the actual heat
21:39.7
being experienced outdoors.
21:42.3
Yeah, that's true.
21:43.6
That's true.
21:45.2
You're talking to Pag-Asa
21:46.2
and they were saying
21:47.5
specific sectors may be more vulnerable
21:50.1
than the others
21:50.9
or they're talking about
21:52.1
transport services
21:53.4
or even,
21:54.3
construction.
21:56.1
Mayor Lacuna,
21:57.4
we know that the Matrix Alert System
21:59.4
is still a work in progress
22:01.1
as of the moment
22:01.8
but do you think
22:02.7
there is a basis
22:04.6
or maybe what should be the basis?
22:06.9
What important inputs
22:08.6
from other agencies
22:09.7
does the weather
22:11.8
or the alert system entail?
22:14.5
Well, you have to take
22:15.6
a lot of consideration
22:16.7
like the effects
22:18.6
with electricity.
22:21.9
Of course,
22:22.5
we are suffering from El Nino.
22:24.3
And then the constant fire
22:30.0
that happened in the city.
22:32.3
These are things that we need.
22:34.6
And of course,
22:36.4
the procurement process
22:37.6
in cases that we need to procure
22:41.3
to address extreme heat.
22:45.2
And of course,
22:45.8
the health sector,
22:46.8
what should be done
22:48.6
by our health department
22:50.6
in order to take care
22:53.3
of our constituents.
22:54.3
Those are things
22:55.2
that we need to consider.
22:57.3
All right.
22:57.8
Of course,
22:58.4
this is an experience
23:00.4
that's not just felt
23:01.3
in the city of Manila
23:02.7
but many other cities
23:04.0
in the National Capital Region.
23:06.2
Now, the question is,
23:07.1
is there any unified effort
23:08.6
by Metro Manila mayors
23:10.3
to come up with a consensus?
23:13.3
No.
23:13.5
As of the moment,
23:14.7
we are still
23:15.6
in the talking phase
23:18.2
among the Metro Manila mayors,
23:21.2
the Metro Manila Council,
23:23.1
as to what steps
23:24.3
and standards
23:24.8
should be followed
23:25.6
by all of us.
23:26.9
But as of now,
23:28.7
since there's nothing yet,
23:30.8
I'm concentrating more
23:33.1
on what is to be done
23:35.1
here in the city of Manila.
23:35.9
In the city of Manila.
23:36.9
And speaking of that,
23:37.9
is there any experience perhaps
23:39.5
or an anecdotal account
23:41.1
that you can share with us
23:42.2
about the temperatures,
23:44.6
the problems that have been
23:45.8
encountered by your residents
23:48.2
as we have been experiencing
23:51.0
really high temperatures
23:52.0
in the past weeks?
23:53.8
Yeah.
23:54.1
Definitely.
23:55.0
We have this,
23:55.8
I have this program
23:56.8
every Wednesday.
23:57.9
We call the Kalinga sa Manila program
23:59.8
that we have to,
24:01.0
we had to adjust the time
24:03.1
because it's done outdoors.
24:06.2
So, most of our constituents
24:08.7
attending this Kalinga sa Manila program
24:12.7
are mostly seniors.
24:14.2
So, we have to adapt
24:15.8
to the time
24:17.1
so that they are not
24:19.1
really exposed to extreme heat.
24:20.9
So, we have to be done,
24:22.6
to be finished
24:23.4
by around 9 a.m.
24:24.9
so that they can avail
24:26.6
of the actual services
24:27.9
and then can go home after that.
24:30.8
All right.
24:31.4
Lastly, and before we close,
24:32.8
so what advice can you give
24:33.8
your constituents
24:34.5
regarding this one?
24:36.3
First,
24:37.6
they should be well-ventilated,
24:40.1
keep hydrated,
24:42.1
and if possible,
24:44.5
stay indoors.
24:46.0
If there's nothing to do,
24:47.4
very important things
24:48.9
to do outdoors,
24:49.9
please, please,
24:50.6
stay indoors
24:51.4
and consult.
24:53.4
The nearest health center
24:54.9
in cases of symptoms
24:57.9
brought about by extreme heat.
25:00.6
All right.
25:01.3
Mayor Lacuna,
25:02.0
has it come to the point
25:03.0
that, you know,
25:03.8
public service has been disrupted
25:05.3
because of the heat?
25:07.3
Based on your experience?
25:08.1
Not yet.
25:09.1
Not really here
25:10.6
in the city of Manila
25:11.4
except for those
25:13.0
who are working
25:14.2
in the fields
25:15.4
like our engineering office,
25:18.0
our city electrician,
25:19.3
our, the Manila Police District,
25:21.2
the Bureau of Fire.
25:22.7
Of course,
25:23.4
our public recreation office,
25:26.1
the one hunting Manila Zoo,
25:29.1
to take extra precautionary measures
25:31.7
for all the employees.
25:33.6
Like,
25:33.9
every 30 minutes,
25:36.5
they should take a rest,
25:39.1
go indoors,
25:40.4
so as not to be
25:41.7
too much exposed
25:42.8
to the extreme heat.
25:44.2
And daily transactions
25:45.3
at the City Hall
25:46.2
are not disrupted
25:47.1
at this point?
25:47.9
Not yet.
25:49.3
All right.
25:49.9
On that note,
25:51.2
Manila Mayor Honey Lacuna,
25:52.4
thank you so much
25:52.9
for joining us.
25:53.4
This afternoon.
25:55.2
Thank you.
25:56.6
Thank you.
25:57.7
All right.
25:58.8
Up next,
25:59.4
controversial religious leader
26:00.6
Apollo Kibuloy
26:01.3
looking to dismiss
26:02.1
an arrest warrant
26:03.0
against him
26:03.6
for his child
26:04.4
and sexual abuse cases.
26:05.8
That story and more
26:06.6
after the break.
26:07.9
This is Dateline Philippines
26:09.2
here on AMC.
26:23.4
Yes.
26:36.0
Na na na na.
26:36.2
Okay.
26:36.7
We'll be right back.
26:39.4
Be right back.
26:40.5
Be right back.
26:42.0
We'll be right back.
26:43.8
Be right back.
26:47.8
Okay.
26:48.7
So,
26:49.8
as you can see,
26:50.1
we have a very í’€ago
26:52.1
restaurant,
26:52.7
a restaurant,
26:53.1
a restaurant,
26:53.2
a restaurant,
26:53.3
a restaurant,
26:53.3
and a restaurant.
26:53.4
Thank you for watching!
27:23.4
Thank you for watching!
27:53.9
Mobility will be key to recovery because we have relaxed some of our quarantine methods and we have allowed more transportation to come out.
28:05.5
That's going to prove to be better for demand.
28:08.6
If we do follow the health protocols, the ability of people to move around will likely contribute better to growth.
28:23.4
Thank you for watching!
28:53.4
Thank you for watching!
29:23.4
Thank you for watching!
29:53.4
The greatest disruptor of all time is actually COVID-19.
30:09.1
Because of limited mobility, people are also not being able to go to physical branches, etc.
30:14.4
It further accelerated the adoption of consumers of digital channels.
30:21.3
We are now being able to...
30:23.4
provide the services needed by our citizens, by our consumers.
30:28.1
Thank you for watching!
30:52.1
Thank you for watching!
30:56.9
Thank you for watching!
30:57.5
Thank you for watching!
30:57.6
Thank you for watching!
30:57.6
Thank you for watching!
30:57.8
Thank you for watching!
30:58.1
Thank you for watching!
31:28.1
Thank you for watching!
31:58.1
The health protocols, the ability of people to move around will likely contribute better to growth.
32:28.1
Thank you for watching!
32:58.1
The health protocols, the ability of people to move around will likely contribute better to growth.
33:28.1
He cannot be classified fully yet as a fugitive from justice because the charge against him is still under question.
33:39.0
Atty. Torreon meanwhile assures Philippine authorities Kibuloy is still in the Philippines.
33:43.6
He adds the pastor may actually be open to extradition to the U.S.
33:49.6
As a matter of fact, pastoral policy Kibuloy may not be totally against an extradition process.
33:54.9
What he fears is the illegal process.
33:58.1
I cannot state for certain if he will agree with me.
34:05.4
But in my previous discussion with him, well, if extradition may be, but extraordinary rendition, totally no.
34:17.7
Over the past few weeks, there has been a surge in viral deepfake videos featuring prominent TV personalities raising the question of whom or what to do next.
34:28.1
We should trust online.
34:30.0
In this report by Andrea Taguinas, an AI expert provides insights into identifying signs of video manipulation.
34:38.3
Magandang morning, Doc, Michelle, and welcome to Sato.
34:42.6
Trinay ko yung hormo balance and it's actually doing great sa akin kasi nawala yung hot flashes.
34:48.6
Kapamilya host Amie Perez joins a string of Filipino TV personalities that have been used for deepfakes
34:54.9
or videos manipulated with the use of artificial intelligence.
34:58.1
In a sponsored post on Facebook, Perez is made to appear as if she's endorsing a drug for women dealing with menopause.
35:06.0
Nag-appear siya sa feed ng isang kaibigan ko.
35:09.8
Pinadala niya yung link sa akin.
35:11.2
Tapos sabi niya, Mars, ikaw ba to?
35:13.8
Talaga akong pinakinga ko.
35:15.1
Ay, parang boses ko talaga.
35:17.2
Ang galing, diba?
35:18.4
Pero sobrang nakakatakot.
35:21.9
The video used was a real interview from Perez' previous morning show on DZMM Teleradio,
35:27.2
but was edited.
35:28.1
Towards the end, Perez asserts,
35:30.5
neither she nor the doctor she spoke with had mentioned any product during their whole exchange.
35:35.9
The said drug, called hormo balance,
35:37.9
is not actually registered with the Food and Drug Administration.
35:41.8
That's why Perez warns her followers against buying it.
35:44.8
Hindi ko tinatake yung gamot na yun ever.
35:47.5
Ang nakakalungkot doon, ang daming babaeng nag-comment na puro tinatanong nila magkano yung produkto.
35:54.3
An AI expert points out,
35:56.1
the splicing of the video is one of the telltales,
35:58.1
still signs that it's fake.
35:59.8
There are also parts where the movements of the speaker's lips are not in sync with the audio track.
36:05.0
Parang siyang dinub.
36:06.0
In fact, that was where this technology started for dubbing purposes,
36:09.9
to make the dubbed videos more natural.
36:12.8
According to Ligot,
36:13.8
there are also times when scammers just loop one clip over and over.
36:17.6
Parang paulit-ulit yung ulo niya in the same direction.
36:21.0
That's another known tactic.
36:22.7
Kunyari, yung video clip mo is only three seconds,
36:25.8
pero yung audio clip mo is maybe...
36:28.1
half a minute.
36:30.0
Paulit-ulit lang yung galaw.
36:31.6
Filipinos can also catch deep fakes by listening for weird pronunciation of words or intonation.
36:37.3
Kunyari, pesos becomes pesos kasi nga these technologies were developed in English.
36:43.7
But as AI technology evolves,
36:46.1
Ligot said it will only get harder to distinguish edited videos from real ones.
36:50.6
His advice?
36:51.6
Kailangan kinikilatis mo, ano bang narinig ko? Totoo ba yan?
36:54.8
And we have to adapt yung mas skeptic.
36:58.1
We should always have a political attitude.
37:00.4
Usually ang mga common uses dyan,
37:02.5
either it's a political message or may binibenta, hard selling.
37:08.8
You should automatically scrutinize.
37:12.3
Ligot also encouraged the public to report such videos to social media sites,
37:16.6
to authorities, and to the person being impersonated.
37:19.6
And instead of believing online ads,
37:21.6
the Department of Health said,
37:23.6
it's always better to consult with a doctor for their medical concerns.
37:26.6
In a statement, DOH said,
37:28.1
DOH Secretary Ted Herbosa said,
37:30.1
his agency will continue to file cases against online pages
37:33.1
making use of the DOH and FDA logos to trick people.
37:37.1
Wala po kaming ini-endorso kahit ni isang produkto,
37:41.1
kahit gamot, kahit pagkain, wala po.
37:44.1
So ibig sabihin, pag may nakita po kayo na nagsasabing,
37:47.1
DOH endorses this, dun palang ho, huwag na kayo maniwala.
37:50.1
Just recently, the videos of some ABS-CBN journalists and anchors
37:54.1
were also manipulated to look like they were endorsing a slimming treatment.
37:58.1
Andrea Taguines, ABS-CBN News.
38:28.1
The P.U.V. Modernization Program, beginning Monday.
38:31.1
Let's get details from Jervis Manaan, who now joins us on the line.
38:34.1
Jervis, what do you have for us?
38:36.1
Yes, Tal.
38:37.1
The transportation groups Piston and Manivela announced
38:40.1
a new series of transport strikes starting Monday, April 15.
38:44.1
This is to oppose the April 30 deadline of franchise consolidation
38:48.1
set by the government.
38:50.1
President Bongbong Marcos earlier said
38:52.1
there will be no extension of this deadline.
38:54.1
Maribel Buena of Manivela is calling for the resignation
38:57.1
of President Bongbong Marcos
38:59.1
for his alleged inability to respond to the needs
39:02.1
of Filipino jeepney drivers.
39:04.1
He said the strike will be massive
39:06.1
with thousands of units joining the pickets and caravans nationwide.
39:10.1
The strike will initially last for two days.
39:13.1
They said more activities will be held leading to the April 30 deadline.
39:17.1
Buena is confident they will be able to paralyze transportation by next week.
39:22.1
The groups are appealing to the commuting public to understand their plight.
39:26.1
The groups also said they are determined to ply the road
39:29.1
even beyond the April 30 deadline.
39:32.1
Buena said they are ready to bring their traditional jeepneys
39:35.1
to the office of the LTFRB
39:37.1
if ever they get apprehended beyond the deadline.
39:40.1
We are still reaching out to DOTR and the LTFRB
39:43.1
for their comments regarding this matter.
39:46.1
Stanley.
39:47.1
Alright, Jervis Manan, thank you so much for the update.
39:50.1
Traffic authorities looking into the possibility
39:52.1
a senator was onboard a vehicle that sped off
39:55.1
after being caught using the EDSA bus lane this morning.
39:59.1
Job Manahan tells us more.
40:03.1
A vehicle that has a number 7 protocol license plate
40:06.1
eluded traffic authorities on Thursday morning
40:09.1
after initially being apprehended for using the EDSA busway
40:12.1
along the part of EDSA Mandaluyong.
40:14.1
The Special Action and Intelligence Committee for Transportation or SAIC
40:19.1
stopped the black SUV that was tailing two police cars
40:22.1
that were also apprehended for using the busway.
40:25.1
When the driver provided his driver's license to SAIC operatives,
40:29.1
however, he started his engine and left the scene.
40:32.1
Based on guidelines from the Department of Transportation,
40:35.1
only senators could be issued protocol plates with a number 7.
40:40.1
The license was already given and the ORCR would get it,
40:45.1
but it already ran away.
40:46.1
And the SAIC operatives were surprised.
40:51.1
I asked them everything,
40:53.1
but they could not identify who was the driver.
40:57.1
As long as the driver is a passenger,
41:00.1
the driver is a passenger.
41:03.1
Guest Mundo added that what the driver did
41:05.1
was considered a disregard to traffic rules and regulations.
41:09.1
He may face stiffer penalties.
41:11.1
The DOTR said it is already looking into the matter
41:14.1
and they have no news yet whether or not there was really a senator onboard.
41:18.1
What was clear though was the presence of a passenger
41:21.1
based on a statement of a traffic officer.
41:23.1
We are still looking at the applicable sanctions and penalties
41:30.1
because the driver used the busway.
41:35.1
We already know who is the only one who is allowed to use the busway.
41:38.1
We will find out more about the disregard to traffic rules.
41:44.1
I know that if you drive like this,
41:48.1
the penalty will be greater.
41:52.1
But within the day,
41:54.1
the LTO will issue a shock order to the driver.
41:57.1
In November 2023,
41:59.1
the MMDA limited the use of the bus lane to government officials
42:03.1
which only includes the President,
42:05.1
Vice President,
42:06.1
Senate President,
42:07.1
House Speaker,
42:08.1
and the Chief Justice.
42:09.1
Just recently,
42:11.1
the convoy of Narvacan Mayor Chavit Singzon
42:13.1
was caught using the EDSA bus lane.
42:15.1
Meanwhile,
42:16.1
a couple of vehicles with stickers of the Philippine National Police
42:19.1
were also apprehended for using the busway.
42:22.1
Among them was a police personnel
42:24.1
who declined to be interviewed.
42:26.1
SAIC also stopped a van with a PNP sticker.
42:29.1
The driver said
42:30.1
they were on the way for an emergency at Camp Krame.
42:33.1
Operatives, however,
42:34.1
allowed one PNP vehicle carrying personnel
42:37.1
from the Explosive Ordnance Disposal and Canine Group
42:40.1
due to an ongoing operation at the QCPD Station 2.
42:43.1
We are paneling at Station 2.
42:46.1
Operation paneling.
42:48.1
The violations committed by government officials
42:50.1
and police personnel come
42:52.1
as President Marcos called on them
42:54.1
to set an example by following road rules.
42:57.1
The Transportation Department again reminds all motorists
43:01.1
not to use the exclusive busway unless they fall under its guidelines.
43:05.1
It said,
43:06.1
only ambulances with patients,
43:08.1
police with ongoing operations,
43:10.1
fire trucks responding to fire incidents,
43:12.1
and select Philippine officials could use the EDSA busway.
43:15.1
Job Manahan, ABS-CBN News.
43:20.1
In related news,
43:22.1
President Marcos has issued an executive order
43:24.1
regulating the use of protocol license plates.
43:27.1
Pia Gutierrez joins us with the details.
43:29.1
Hi, Pia.
43:31.1
Yes, Sandy.
43:32.1
President Ferdinand Marcos, Jr.
43:34.1
has signed an order regulating the issuance
43:37.1
of low-numbered protocol license plates
43:39.1
to government officials.
43:41.1
Executive Order No. 56
43:43.1
signed by Marcos, Jr. last March 25
43:46.1
authorizes the assignment and issuance
43:49.1
of low-numbered protocol license plates
43:51.1
to vehicles used by government officials.
43:53.1
The order actually amends the previous EO No. 400,
43:57.1
which had included regional trial court judges
43:59.1
in the list of authorized government officials
44:01.1
who can use protocol plates.
44:03.1
And with the order, Sandy,
44:05.1
the protocol license plates are now from 1 to 12 and then 14.
44:09.1
From the previous list,
44:10.1
this means that the No. 16 protocol plates
44:14.1
which were used to be given to RTC judges are now removed.
44:18.1
So the designation are as follows.
44:20.1
Presidents will be issued protocol license plate No. 1.
44:26.1
Vice President is No. 2.
44:27.1
Senate President is No. 3.
44:29.1
Speaker of the House of Representatives is No. 4.
44:31.1
Chief Justice of the Supreme Court is No. 5.
44:34.1
Cabinet Secretaries are No. 6.
44:37.1
Senators are No. 7.
44:38.1
Members of the House of Representatives are No. 8.
44:41.1
Associated Justices of the Supreme Court,
44:43.1
the Presiding Justice of the Court of Appeals,
44:46.1
the Court of Tax Appeals,
44:48.1
the Sandigan Bayan,
44:49.1
and the Solicitor General is Protocol Plate No. 10.
44:53.1
Chairpersons of Constitutional Commissions and the Ombudsman is No. 11.
44:57.1
Chief of Staff of the Armed Forces of the Philippines
45:00.1
and the Chief of the Philippine National Police are No. 14.
45:03.1
The EO also states that protocol license plates
45:06.1
issued to authorized officials to be valid
45:08.1
only during their incumbency
45:10.1
and may only be used for motor vehicles
45:12.1
newly registered in their name
45:14.1
and are officially assigned to them.
45:16.1
So the order comes,
45:17.1
following increasing complaints
45:19.1
regarding the proliferation
45:21.1
and unauthorized use of protocol license plates,
45:24.1
threatening public safety
45:26.1
and undermining the integrity
45:28.1
of the vehicle registration.
45:31.1
The President is also issued Administrative Order No. 18,
45:34.1
which prohibits government officials and personnel
45:37.1
from using sirens, blinkers,
45:39.1
and other similar signaling or flashing devices.
45:42.1
In issuing the order,
45:43.1
the President noted a rampant,
45:45.1
unauthorized,
45:46.1
and indiscriminate use of sirens,
45:48.1
blinkers,
45:49.1
and other similar signaling or flashing devices
45:51.1
which has caused traffic disruptions
45:53.1
and unsafe roads and traffic environments.
45:56.1
The EO states that the unauthorized
45:58.1
and improper use of these devices
46:00.1
by government officials and employees
46:02.1
shall be dealt with in accordance
46:04.1
with applicable laws, rules, and regulations.
46:07.1
But exempted from the order
46:09.1
are members of the Armed Forces of the Philippines,
46:11.1
the National Bureau of Investigation,
46:13.1
the Philippine National Police,
46:15.1
fire trucks, hospital ambulances,
46:17.1
and other emergency vehicles.
46:19.1
But government officials and personnel
46:21.1
are reminded that the use of sirens,
46:24.1
dome lights, blinkers,
46:26.1
and other similar devices
46:27.1
shall only be under emergency circumstances
46:30.1
or situations
46:32.1
or to ensure the expedient and safe passage
46:34.1
of emergency responders.
46:36.1
Stanley?
46:37.1
Alright, thank you so much for the update.
46:39.1
Pia Gutierrez.

World News Now.
46:41.1
Three sons of Hamas leader Ismael Hanye
46:44.1
killed in an Israeli airstrike
46:46.1
in the Gaza Strip on Wednesday.
46:48.1
The Israeli military confirms carrying out the attack,
46:51.1
describing the three sons as operatives
46:53.1
in the Hamas armed wing.
46:55.1
Israel, however, says it has no information
46:58.1
on reports four of Hanye's grandchildren
47:01.1
were also killed in the strike.
47:03.1
Relatives say the three sons and four grandchildren
47:06.1
were visiting family during the Muslim Eid al-Fitr holiday.
47:12.1
U.S. President Joe Biden urging Hamas
47:14.1
to accept the latest proposal
47:16.1
for a temporary Gaza ceasefire
47:18.1
in exchange for the release of some hostages.
47:21.1
Hamas has said it was studying
47:23.1
the Israeli truce proposal
47:25.1
although it met none of Palestinian demands.
47:28.1
Hamas wants an end to Israeli military operations
47:32.1
and a withdrawal from the enclave
47:34.1
and permission for displaced Palestinians
47:37.1
to return home.
47:39.1
I have been very blunt and straightforward
47:41.1
with the Prime Minister
47:43.1
as well as his War Cabinet
47:44.1
as well as the Cabinet.
47:46.1
And the fact of the matter is that
47:49.1
Bibi and I had a long discussion.
47:52.1
He agreed to do several things
47:54.1
that related to, number one,
47:56.1
getting more aid of both food and medicine into Gaza
48:01.1
and reducing significantly the attempts
48:04.1
of the civilian casualties
48:06.1
in any action taken in the region.
48:11.1
Inflation in the U.S. rose
48:13.1
faster than expected in March.
48:15.1
Consumer prices in the country rose 3.5%
48:18.1
for the year to March
48:20.1
with higher costs for fuel, housing and food
48:23.1
driving the increase.
48:25.1
Analysts had expected a 3.4% rise.
48:28.1
They now warn the lack of progress
48:30.1
in curbing price rises may force
48:32.1
the U.S. Central Bank to keep its interest rates
48:35.1
higher for longer.
48:37.1
The Fed was widely expected to cut rates in June.
48:40.1
President Biden says the unexpected jump
48:43.1
in inflation could delay the Fed's plan to cut rates.
48:48.1
Well, I do stand by my prediction
48:50.1
that before the year is out to be a rate cut.
48:52.1
This may delay it a month or so.
48:54.1
But look, we have dramatically reduced inflation
48:57.1
from 9% down to close to 3%.
49:00.1
We're in a situation where we're better situated
49:03.1
than we were when we took office,
49:05.1
where inflation was skyrocketing.
49:08.1
And we have a plan to deal with it.
49:10.1
Five people are arrested in Philadelphia
49:15.1
following a shootout between two rival groups.
49:18.1
The shooting occurred near a Muslim gathering
49:20.1
to celebrate the end of Ramadan.
49:22.1
Only the suspects were injured in the shootout
49:25.1
and ensuing police pursuit.
49:27.1
But authorities say all are in stable condition.
49:31.1
Police said an investigation will be conducted
49:33.1
to look into the motives of the conflict
49:36.1
during the public Eid al-Fitr gathering.
49:40.1
South Korea's liberal opposition parties
49:43.1
score a landslide victory in the country's parliamentary election,
49:46.1
dealing a resounding blow to ruling conservatives.
49:49.1
The Democratic Party is projected to take
49:51.1
more than 170 of the 300 seats in the legislature,
49:55.1
while a splinter liberal party is expected
49:58.1
to take at least 10 seats.
50:01.1
The allies, though, are likely to fall
50:03.1
just short of a supermajority.
50:05.1
The bitterly fought race was seen as a referendum
50:09.1
on President Yoon Seok-kyo,
50:11.1
whose popularity has suffered amid a cost-of-living crisis
50:15.1
and a spate of political scandals.
50:18.1
The National Election Commission is expected
50:20.1
to announce the results later today.
50:25.1
Switching gears now,
50:27.1
the CINE Institute and ABS-CBN International
50:30.1
set to host Canada's first ever
50:32.1
Filipino Film Festival in Toronto.
50:34.1
Take a look.
50:36.1
Are you guys ready for an exciting filmmaking challenge?
50:40.1
CINE Film Fest,
50:42.1
the very first Filipino Film Festival in Canada,
50:45.1
is about to happen.
50:47.1
The event, which will roll out the red carpet
50:50.1
on April 13th and 14th
50:52.1
at the prestigious Hotel X in Toronto,
50:55.1
was organized by the CINE Institute
50:57.1
to showcase the best of Filipino talents
51:00.1
in the world of cinema.
51:02.1
We also want to be able to showcase
51:06.1
and celebrate Filipino storytelling
51:08.1
on the big screen.
51:09.1
So this is one way to bring everybody together,
51:12.1
the community,
51:13.1
to celebrate it not just within the Filipino community
51:16.1
but to celebrate it to the rest of Canada.
51:18.1
Scania also says that as part of the commemoration
51:21.1
of the 75th anniversary
51:23.1
of Philippine-Canada relations,
51:25.1
participants will include film enthusiasts,
51:28.1
industry professionals,
51:30.1
trade delegates from the Philippines
51:32.1
and special guests.
51:33.1
To mark the launch of the CINE Film Fest,
51:36.1
the CINE Institute partners
51:38.1
with ABS-CBN International
51:40.1
to host this historic event.
51:42.1
ABS has been a pillar,
51:44.1
a strong pillar
51:46.1
and a great source of Filipino content worldwide.
51:50.1
So they have contributed so much
51:53.1
in promoting Filipino storytelling,
51:57.1
not just for Filipinos in the Philippines
52:00.1
but Filipinos worldwide.
52:02.1
It is such an honor for us to be offered
52:05.1
to be CINE Film Fest official media partner
52:08.1
when they approached us for this partnership,
52:11.1
we really got excited.
52:13.1
So ABS-CBN's heart and soul is really in storytelling.
52:18.1
So this aligns with our mission
52:20.1
of bringing the Filipino content to the world stage.
52:23.1
Open to all,
52:24.1
the festival will feature a carefully curated selection
52:27.1
of ten feature films and seven short films,
52:30.1
including the highly anticipated screening
52:33.1
of Star Cinema's Hello, Love, Goodbye,
52:36.1
directed by Cathy Garcia-Sampana.
52:39.1
The film explores the lives of Filipino immigrants in Hong Kong,
52:43.1
resonating deeply with the experiences
52:45.1
of overseas Filipino workers worldwide.
52:48.1
The festival will also showcase works
52:50.1
by Filipino-Canadian filmmakers,
52:53.1
including Kahel,
52:54.1
a Filipino TV original by Philbert Huang,
52:58.1
Islands, directed by Martin Ederlin,
53:01.1
and Spiderman Rock,
53:02.1
a debut fan film by Carlos Rico.
53:05.1
Prior to the festival,
53:06.1
CINE Institute also launched a 48-hour CINE Challenge
53:10.1
where budding filmmakers competed in a limited-time challenge.
53:14.1
Beyond the film screenings,
53:16.1
the festival also aimed to encourage young Filipino comedians
53:20.1
to delve into filmmaking and acting.
53:23.1
To achieve this,
53:24.1
CINE Film Fest collaborated with the Toronto Film School
53:27.1
to conduct educational workshops throughout the two-day event.
53:31.1
So they are the ones spearheading the facilitation
53:34.1
of all the workshops, the trainings,
53:37.1
and so we're very privileged
53:40.1
and we're very grateful to Toronto Film School
53:43.1
for trusting CINE Institute and CINE Film Fest
53:47.1
to do a project like this.
53:49.1
Ginny Ocampo, head of ABS-CBN's Global Content,
53:53.1
hopes that their collaboration with CINE Institute
53:56.1
will lead to further opportunities for ABS-CBN
53:59.1
in the global film industry.
54:01.1
We continue with our mission of telling the story
54:04.1
of the Filipino.
54:05.1
In fact, TFC is celebrating its 30th anniversary this year
54:10.1
and we promise that TFC will make sure
54:13.1
that all other ABS-CBN properties
54:16.1
will play an active role in various areas
54:20.1
of the entertainment industry.
54:22.1

54:57.1
And before we go,
54:58.1
Sydney is still reviewing its policy
55:00.1
against allowing pets on public transport.
55:02.1
So the appearance of this four-legged commuter
55:05.1
must have come as a surprise.
55:07.1
An escaped horse ran loose
55:09.1
at a Sydney train platform last Friday,
55:12.1
surprising fellow passengers.
55:14.1
Transportation officials say
55:16.1
train drivers were warned of the danger
55:18.1
and to slow down around the station.
55:21.1
The animal was eventually captured
55:23.1
and loaded on a trailer
55:25.1
and authorities confirmed the horse
55:27.1
managed to return home safely.
55:29.1
And that'll do it for today.
55:32.1
Thanks a lot for joining us.
55:33.1
I'm Stanley Paliza.
