The President of the Republic of the Philippines, His Excellency Ferdinand R. Marcos, Jr.
00:15.1
Thank you, Executive Secretary Luke Bersamin.
00:21.4
Vice President Sara Duterte, members of the Cabinet,
00:25.9
Yung iba nakaalis na.
00:55.9
Fellow workers in government, ladies and gentlemen, good afternoon.
01:01.1
Today, I leave for Washington, D.C. to attend the first Philippine-U.S.-Japan Trilateral Summit.
01:08.3
It is a historic meeting, a meeting with U.S. President Joe Biden and Japanese Prime Minister Kishida Fumio.
01:15.6
It is aimed at advancing trilateral cooperation between our three countries,
01:21.4
which have long enjoyed warm and friendly relations and robust cooperation.
01:25.9
This visit builds upon my previous meeting with Prime Minister Kishida and U.S. Vice President Kamala Harris last September in Jakarta.
01:37.1
This was actually what they called in diplomatic circles a pull-aside,
01:43.2
where during the farewell dinner of ASEAN,
01:50.0
because it was the last summit that Indonesia was chairing,
01:55.9
we had a pull-aside and we talked quite comprehensively about the idea of having this trilateral agreement.
02:09.8
The follow-up to this was held with our foreign ministers and our national security advisors last year.
02:19.2
During this summit, I will underscore the importance of enhancing our continued international,
02:25.9
economic cooperation with a view of promoting economic resilience and, of course, security.
02:33.3
I intend to explore ways of advancing cooperation,
02:36.3
especially in the areas of critical infrastructure, semiconductors, digitalization and cyber security,
02:44.9
critical minerals, renewable energy, as well as defense and maritime cooperation.
02:51.2
It is my intention also to exchange views with my U.S. and Japanese counterparts,
02:55.9
and various regional security issues of mutual concern,
02:59.8
while continuing to reiterate the importance of upholding the rule of law
03:04.8
and preserving the rules-based international order in the Indo-Pacific region.
03:11.7
On the margins of the summit, I will also have a bilateral meeting with U.S. President Biden,
03:17.2
just the two of us,
03:18.9
and I think he is also going to have that bilateral meeting with Prime Minister Kishida,
03:24.7
where we will have a bilateral meeting with the U.S. President Biden,
03:25.9
and we will continue our discussions on strengthening further our alliance between our two countries,
03:33.5
and also to meet with U.S. business leaders to invite them once again to invest in the Philippines.
03:39.7
I look forward to moving the discussion to a progressive discussion,
03:48.0
so that what our intention really is, is to strengthen the partnerships between our three countries,
03:55.9
between the United States, Japan, and the Philippines.
04:00.8
It is mainly an agreement to strengthen the cooperation on the economic front.
04:10.7
Of course, security and defense is going to be part of that discussion,
04:15.3
but nonetheless, I think I can assure everyone that that is not the main intent of this trilateral agreement.
04:23.0
The main intent of this trilateral agreement,
04:25.9
is for us to be able to continue to flourish,
04:29.9
to be able to help one another,
04:31.9
and of course, to keep the South China Sea as a freedom,
04:39.3
to keep the peace in the South China Sea,
04:42.2
and the freedom of navigation in the South China Sea.
04:45.6
To that end, the details of that are what we are going to be discussing very soon,
04:54.0
and I hope to come back with some good results in the next few days.
04:59.9
Thank you very much, and good afternoon.
05:24.0
Thank you very much.
