This is but a sneak preview of the activities that Kababayans will be able to participate in

during the 2nd Pinoy Festival in Bernabeu this coming June 22nd.

The Hataw Sumbayanan is expected to be a big hit among festival goers

as organizers are aiming for a wider audience participation.

The event also promises to have the largest Sisuit or Daigro tribal dance.

There will also be a beer garden, a new highlight that is expected to draw crowds this year.

We're going to have a beer, barbecue, and music garden.

Benguet Society of PC is leading that and they're going to call it a D-Buy Beer Garden.

It'll be like just another place, another feature within our event

where folks can relax with their barkada, with their family,

to enjoy everything that Pinoy Festival has for that day.

The Pinoy Festival Alliance and the Mabuhay House Society

are co-organizers of this event that has the support of more than 90 Filipino organizations.

Filipino-Canadian Councilor Maita Santiago said

she is grateful that the city of Bernabeu has given a grant to the Pinoy Festival

that aims to celebrate Filipino culture.

Santiago added that she feels inspired by the overwhelming community support for the festival.

From Cordillera to Mindanao, mula sa kabataan hanggang mga seniors,

from cyclists to off-roaders, we really got everybody.

We got everybody joining in and it's very heartwarming, it's inspiring,

and really it shows us, it will be a day to show our culture, our unity, and our pride.

Mabuhay House Society Chair Sammy Jorombawa is hopeful that the second Pinoy Festival

will further strengthen community engagement while promoting the cultural heritage of Filipinos.

To ensure that the various participating Filipino groups are included in the planning,

the organizers called for a community meeting where they discussed

various activities lined up for the June event.

There will be panda rides and Filipino-Pinoy Olympics for the kids

and also an exciting art exhibit.

We're going to have a competition for the youth category to do on-the-spot painting

and also a seniors category for them to do some paintings.

Local talents, rappers, DJs and beatboxers and other live musical performers

are expected to pull in the young Pinoy adults.

Monica, who's a youth volunteer coordinator, stressed that for young Filipinos like him

who were born and raised in Canada, it is really important to continue to have a connection with the community.

Me, myself, as a second-generation immigrant, you know, growing up,

I had a little bit of trouble connecting with my local Filipino community.

People, meeting people that were like me who had the same lived experience.

I think the Pinoy Festival celebrates Filipinos of all backgrounds,

regardless of whether you moved here when you were younger or you were born here in Canada.

There will not be food vendors and stalls for Filipino business owners throughout the venue.

The festival will move to the bigger Swangard Stadium in Burnaby

as the organizers expect twice the number of revelers this year.

We do urge people to take transit and to carpool.

There is parking that's going to be around,

but of course this is going to be an event from 8.30 all the way to 9 p.m.

And so with last year, it was, you know, 14,000 to 15,000

and so we're only expecting double those numbers.

Thiago, who served in the board of Mabuhay House Society,

said it is remarkable to witness various Filipino groups

coming together to undertake this big project.

At the end of the day, it's about empowering our community,

our leaders, our Kababayan, right?

And everybody.

And everybody and everybody.

This is a community effort.

It's community-driven.

And I think that's something that we can, you know, really be proud of.
