A heat wave is hitting Mexicans, who are doing their best to avoid being out in the sun on Tuesday (April 16). The Mexican capital on Monday (April 15) surpassed the 1998 record registered by the Tacubaya observatory of the National Meteorological Service by reaching a maximum temperature of 34.2° Celsius (93.5 Fahrenheit). In the capital's streets, some were seen with holding water bottles, umbrellas and playing in public fountains to avoid the effects of the high temperatures. According to Mexico's National Water Commission, the heat wave will maintain a hot to very hot environment throughout Mexico, with temperatures that could exceed 45 degrees Celsius in the states of Michoacan, Guerrero, Oaxaca, Chiapas, Veracruz, Tabasco and Campeche. According to Carlos Gay, researcher of Atmospheric Sciences and Climate Change at the Universidad Nacional Autonoma de Mexico, high temperatures will continue to break records.
