The National Federation of Filipino-American Associations or NAFA Nevada Chapter

recently awarded outstanding Filipino women in various fields and industries.

Held at Lux at the M Resort, the event paid tribute to 18 women

who exemplify the qualities of empowerment champions, change agents,

community advocates, inspirational leaders, and collaborators.

NAFA Nevada Chairperson Gloria Kawile says,

While the organization celebrates their successes,

it's important to acknowledge that gender bias persists

and that women continue to be underrepresented in positions of power and influence.

And so the fight for women's rights continues.

There is a sense of motherhood in all of us.

And when you see someone, another woman, in need of something,

you know, sometimes just an embrace helps them get through what they're going through for the day.

Women helping.

Helping women is not just an adage, but it should be a practice.

The remarkable women who embody the spirit of selflessness, resilience, and inspiration.

Rosita Lee, who served on former President Barack Obama's Advisory Commission

on Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders, received a Lifetime Achievement Award.

For all that I can do, some more for the rest of the life,

here on Earth, I will continue to do civility

and to help people to come to know themselves and to love God.

Our second empowerment champion is Beverly Lorente.

ABS-CBN News longtime Nevada correspondent Bev Lorente was honored with an empowerment award.

TFC will persist in weaving stories that resonate with Filipinos worldwide.

Other accomplished women in the event applaud the contributions of Capabayans

to mainstream America.

I think that we're doing amazing things in our community

and making things better, both in front and behind the scenes.

Some, like the mother of famous Filipino comedian Jokoy,

say they are inspired by the awardees to keep achieving big things for the community.

Nafa Nevada calls these awardees superwomen who are not only everyday heroes,
