Question: My wife texted me that she has something to tell. i texted back "tatawagin kita" next day she said that i should use "tatawagan kita" instead. would anyone could tell the difference cause she couldnt actually explain why. (she is of course a tagalog native). thanks

Tatawagan kita - I’ll call you (over the phone) I’ll contact you.
 
Di porket crush kita tatawagin na kitang babe? (Ang kapal mo!) -
 
Tawagin has many different use. To call someone over / hail someone(close entity), to call some one something etc.
 
Tawagan- Is the verb you use when you will call someone via phone. Any far away entity.

Tawagan : To call someone by phone or device
 
1. Tawagan mo 'ko ha - call me (on the phone) okay
 
Tawagin ; used as a command. (You tell someone to call another person), Call someone in person/nearby, To summon someone, to call someone something (name, nickname)
 
1. Tawagin mo nga si Lei, paki-sabi may tawag sya (You call Lei, please tell him he has a phone call)
 
2. Tatawagin kita kapag game na (I'll call you when we'll start the game)
 
3. Tawagin mo 'ko sa pangalan ko (call me by my name)

Yes, "tawagan" is used to mean "call by phone". "Tawagin" is used practically for everything else.
 
Both “tawagin” and “tawagan” are object-focus verbs, i.e., the object (callee) is needed. “Tumawag” is their subject/actor-focus counterpart, which does not require an object.
 
You may find the following sentences about phone calls useful in the future. 🙂
 
• Bakit ka tumawag? = Why did you call?
• Anong oras ka tatawag? = (At) What time will you call?
• Anong oras kita puwedeng tawagan? = (At) What time may/can I call you?
• Anong oras ako tatawag? = (At) What time should I call?
• Sino ang tumawag? = Who called?
• Sino ang tinawagan mo? = Who did you call?
• Sino ang tinatawagan mo? = Who are you calling?
• Kailan siya tumawag? = When did he/she call?
• Tumawag ka uli bukas/sa Linggo. = Call again tomorrow/on Sunday.
• Tawagan mo ako uli bukas/sa isang (or, sa susunod na) linggo. = Call me again tomorrow/next week.
• Tatawagan kita (uli) bukas. = I’ll call you (again) tomorrow.
• Tumawag ka lang pag gusto mo. = Just call when you feel like it.
• Tawagan mo ako araw-araw. = Call me every day.
• Huwag kang tatawag sa gabi. = Don’t call at night.
• Kanina pa kita tinatawagan. = I’ve been trying to call you for a while now.
• Kanina pa ako tumatawag. = I’ve been trying to call for a while now.
• Hindi ako makatawag. = I couldn’t make a call.
• Mabuti/’Buti at tumawag ka. = It’s good that you called.
• Tinawagan ka ba ng nanay mo? = Did your mom call you?
• Tumawag ba ang tatay mo? = Did your father call?
• Kailangan kitang tawagan mamaya. = I need/have to call you later (today).
• Pwede mo akong tawagan mamaya? = Can you call me/call me back later (today)?
• Pwede mo akong tawagan makalipas ang/pagkalipas ng sampung minuto? = Can you call me after 10 minutes?
• Tatawagan kita pagkatapos ng/makalipas ang sampung minuto. = I’ll call you (also, you back) after 10 minutes.
• May ginagawa ako ngayon. Tatawagan na lang kita mamaya. = I’m busy/doing something right now. I’ll just call you later.
• Hindi ko nasagot ang tawag mo kanina. = I missed your call earlier.
• Hindi ko (talaga) sinagot ang tawag mo kanina. = I (intentionally) did not answer your call earlier.
• Tumawag ka pag/kapag nasa airport ka na. = Call when you’re already at the airport.
• Tatawagan kita pag/kapag nasa airport na ako. = I’ll call you when I’m already at the airport.
• Tawagan mo ako sandali. = Give me a quick call.
• Kanina ko pa hinihintay ang tawag mo. = I’ve been waiting for your call since a while ago.
• May hinihintay akong tawag. = I am waiting for/expecting a call.
• Pwede mo akong tawagan sa isa kong number? = Can you call me at my other number?
• Tawagan mo ako pag libre/may oras ka. = Call me when you’re free/you have the time.
• Pasensiya na/Sorry, hindi ako nakatawag kanina. = Sorry, I was not able to call earlier.
• Itatawag ko sa iyo ang sagot/resulta mamaya. = I’ll call you for the answer/result later.
• Tatawagan kita pagdating ko sa bahay/pag nasa bahay na ako. = I'll call you when I get home/when I’m already home.
• Mágtawagán tayo bukas. = Let’s call each other tomorrow.
