So we can all say "Depende"...and of course its always true "Depende" more so with Tagalogs...
But...it doesn't help much...JKos has built the best set of Tagalog Tools here without question...he has empowered everyones' Tagalog if we just look...
For me, always strengthen your ear with the rooooooooooooooooooooot - root root root
From the dictionary...
pasyál: [noun] stroll • roam around
The root gives you a strong feeling for the range of meaning that a particular affix could influence...
So here -UM- affix gives us pUMasyal and the Tagalog.com dictionary says
pumasyál: [verb] to take a walk • to take a stroll
So we have a push in a certain direction..
The MAG affix is a bit stronger usage and may reveal more range in meaning...
magpasyál: [verb] to tour around • to take a stroll • to take a walk • to take a tour
And here you see the genius of Tagalog...meaning is extended without need to reinvent the wheel. We can start with walk...to...take a stroll...to...roam around...to...visit someone...to...take a tour. Pinoys are extremely talented and flexible in verbal skills and will even get your own extensions. So there is rarely a 1 to 1 direct translation of any given Tagalog Word. A root gives a direction and the speaker drives the meaning to a destination.
Which is why you start at the root...to get a core meaning...and then look to affixes to "fix" a particular direction.
The flexibility and extensibility of Tagalog...makes TAGALOG MORE FUN!
Enjoy!
