My mom is Filipino and my dad is German, I know a lot about my European side of the family but I've always felt a disconnect with my Filipino side. My mom was brought to the US when she was little and after that she was completely separated from any kind of Filipino community. It's almost non existent in her now. I want to try to fix that for myself.

Hello! My name is Rachel. I'm from the United States. I'm not sure how to assess my Tagalog/Filipino level. I can't speak it or write it, but I can understand it due to growing up with the adults in my family speaking it to me as well as Filipino TV. I can usually read it if I try, but it gives me a bit of a headache sometimes honestly. My vocabulary is also a bit limited since I just grew up around everyday Tagalog.
I am studying the Filipino language because it's my heritage. This is probably the millionth time I've tried to study it formally. I usually end up quitting because of lack of resources that I find interesting, but I always feel guilty about not learning it since I am Filipino. I'm hoping it sticks this time!
