Hello! My name is Berto (Filipino nickname). I am from Chicago. I am an intermediate Filipino language student. I am studying the Filipino language because it is now or never.I am married to a Filipina (Ibanag wife) and have lived and worked (Peace Corps Volunteer, college teacher) in various places in the Cagayan Valley for 6+ years, in two three-year stints in the late 1970s and late 1980s. While there, I acquired near fluency in Ilokano, learned a bit of Ibanag, and just "got by" on rudimentary Tagalog.Now, in semi-retirement, I am committed to raising my Tagalog fluency. To better follow the TFC broadcasts, also in anticipation of returning to vacation in the Philippines some day.I already have a pretty firm grasp of Tagalog grammar etc., but my vocabulary is deficient. My aim is not so much to speak Tagalog well as it is to better my listening and reading comprehension.In Tagalog.com, it seems I have come to the right place. I begin with those 1,000 flashcards (maybe half the words I know already) ...

@berto Welcome! I was a PCV on Panay from 1967-1970. Spoke Ilonggo and Kinaraya fluently at the time. Have been studying Tagalog off and on for the past couple of years for much the same reason you are. This site is an amazing resource. Those who hang out here are wonderfully friendly, and ready and willing to help. Mabuhay!

Hellooooo, I can't give out my name due to privacy concerns, but I'm a beginner Filipino language student~~ I'm studying Filipino for several reasons actually (or maybe I'm just tired of using Google Translate ).I just started really trying to learn the language this month, though i haven't had much progress so far, so I'm hoping that this site, with it's lessons, flash-cards, and engaging community will be of help. ~~ so hellooo to everyone!!!I see that a lot of you are already at the intermediate/advanced level, and I really hope I can get there soon as well. <3
