Hello! My user name is russelln. My first name is Russell. I am from Gardena, California and I am a Beginner Filipino language student.
I am studying the Filipino language because I want to interact more with my Pilipino coworkers and friends.
A Pilipino coworker asked me why am I studying Tagalog. She said I should study a more important language like Spanish instead of Tagalog. Another Pilipino coworker complimented me saying that I speak better Tagalog than her son.
Previously, I have studied the Japanese language. Many Japanese and Tagalog syllables are pronounced the same.
In a nearby city Carson, there is a large Pilipino population. There is a Jollibee, Chowking and Red Ribbon bakery. These are popular food places in the Philippines.

Hi! My name is celeste. I am british-filipina and I am an Intermediate Filipino language student.
I am studying tagalog because although my family speaks bisaya, I love tagalog and would like to be able to travel around the Philippines with it. I grew up in the UK and never spoke tagalog or cebuano at home. I would only hear it on the phone or around my aunties! Now I am trying to connect more with my culture through learning tagalog.
